Pros
- Wide range of storage sizes (up to 500ft2)
- Short- and long-term storage solutions
- Free collection service
- Has virtual tour of facility
- Open daily
- Has multiple branches across Scotland
Cons
- Unaccessible units outside of operating hours

Situated just off the Edinburgh City Bypass (A720) in Sighthill lies Kangaroo Self Storage. It boasts a wide range of storage sizes, from 16ft2 up to 500ft2.
Apart from its Edinburgh facility, it has a ton more across Scotland. In particular, in Altrincham, Warrington, Wirral, Glasgow, and Dundee.
This definitely makes it perfect for household storage and business storage. That said, it provides short- and long-term storage solutions depending on your needs.
So, if you’re interested to see what its facility looks like, it has a virtual tour available on its website. We suggest exploring a bit if you can’t make it down to its facility to take a look in person.
It was also music to our ears that it offers a free collection service. That’ll definitely come in handy to help make transporting your belongings a lot easier since you won’t have to hire third-party help.
Apart from that, it also offers discounts on packaging boxes and materials. You can make use of their trollies and forklift services for free.
To boot, the facility is open daily, too. So, you can pop in any time during its operating hours to access your unit with your own personal padlock and key.
However, we were bummed that you cannot access your unit outside of its opening hours. We find this quite restrictive for users, to say the least.
On a brighter note, we were also quite impressed with its security measures. The entire facility is covered by 24-hour CCTV, electronic security, and even a perimeter security fence for extra protection.
Another thing that we liked was that you’re given the option to install additional lighting or even storage racks. These’ll definitely help you make your unit more organized and easy to use.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t have its pricing info available. A price matrix could give potential clients an idea of the costs of the self-storage services.

Pros
- Wide range of storage sizes
- Environmentally-friendly facility
- Has multiple branches across Scotland
- Has free parking at all facilities
- Does price matches
Cons
- No free collection service
- Pricing info not available
If you’re driving along Bankhead Avenue, we don’t think that Big Yellow Self Storage will be hard to miss. With over 103 facilities across the UK, it has 20 different storage container sizes to choose from.
But what stood out to us was its flexibility — it has ground floor storage units if you’re looking for something easily accessible and drive-up units if you’re going to do some packing.
We also think that it offers great value for what you’re getting since you’re only paying for the space you’ll be using. Since it has a wide variety of units, you can opt for one that best fits your needs.
To boot, it’ll even do a price match. Meaning, if you find a better quote elsewhere, this company will try to match it.
As for accessibility, we appreciate that all facilities offer free parking. This way, you won’t have a difficult time when dropping off or collecting your items.
Speaking of, it has a number of partner removal companies and van rentals with accompanying credit that you can use. Even so, we were a tad disappointed that it doesn’t offer free collection services.
We were also impressed with its commitment to being an environmentally-friendly facility. It has solar panels in place to be able to generate its own electricity and even efficient recycling processes.
As for its security measures, we think it’ll take a lot of stress off of clients to know that each unit is individually alarmed and has an individual PIN code. Aside from that, the facility has 24/7 CCTV, security gates, mobile patrol guards, and perimeter fencing.
We think that its fire prevention measures are also on point since it doesn’t allow any combustible materials in any of the units. All units also have individual fire and smoke detectors, to boot.

Pros
- ISO 9001 accredited
- Full member of the British Association of Removers (BAR)
- Offers full packing service
- Vaults guard against condensation
- Call-in to visit units
Cons
- Closed on weekends
- One-sized vault
- Pricing info not available
Kerr’s of Edinburgh is a family-run business that has been operating since 1975. It has achieved ISO 9001 accreditation and is even a full member of the British Association of Removers (BAR).
We find that family-run businesses are a tad more flexible in structure as well as exercise a lot more honest and open communication with their clients.
Speaking of flexibility, we were surprised that this facility has DIY storage systems. This means that arrangements are tailored specifically to your needs.
To boot, we appreciate the convenience of its collection services. You can choose to bring your belongings there, have them picked up, or even ask the company to drop off its vaults and pick them up when you’re ready.
If you’re having some trouble packing or are short on time, the company can even bring over a full packing service. This definitely got brownie points from us for convenience and stellar customer service.
As for its security, the facility is monitored with a 24-hour CCTV, Red Care security, as well as fire and intruder alarms. So, you won’t need to stress about any unwanted visitors.
We also like that its vaults guard against condensation, too. That’ll definitely protect your items from mould, corrosion, mildew, and other troublesome issues.
Oh, did we mention that you can simply call in to visit? We find this pretty convenient since you’re given full access to your vault.
All said, we’re pretty happy with what we’ve seen so far. However, we were a bit bummed that the company doesn’t have its pricing info available, which would have been helpful for potential clients.
To add, we also found it quite limiting that its storage units have a set size. So, you’re paying for a one-sized vault regardless if you fill it up or not.

- Open daily
- Wide range of storage sizes
- Charges daily
- Has 2 locations in Edinburgh and 2 in Glasgow
- 24-hour access
- Does price matches
Cons
- Pricing info not available
- No external container storage
What we like about Len’s Self Storage is that it offers a wide variety of storage solutions. From small lockers to large units, there’s a storage space that’s cost-effective for your needs.
Speaking of cost, we also liked that it charges daily. This means you’re only paying for the time you’ve spent, even if it’s only for a few days.
If you’re not happy with the quote the company has given you, it’s also willing to do price matches. So, you may want to do your research if you’re looking for a good bargain.
However, it doesn’t have its pricing info available on its website. So, you’re going to have to inquire and discuss the specifications of your requirements to be given a figure.
We also think that it’s pretty convenient that it has 2 locations in Edinburgh – Granton and Sighthill. Aside from these, it also has 2 other sites in Glasgow.
Did we mention that you’re entitled to 24-hour access? This means you can come and go as you please, which is definitely a plus for convenience and flexibility.
As for security, the facility has 24-hour alarms and surveillance systems on top of monitored access and regular security patrols. So, we hope this puts your mind at ease.
If you’re ready to get settled in, you can give this company a call and it can arrange a portering service for you. That’ll definitely come in handy if you’re struggling to move a ton of items.
Keep in mind that it doesn’t offer external container storage. So, you may want to consider the other entries on this list instead.

Pros
- Open daily
- Has 3 locations in Edinburgh
- Free to reserve a unit
- Long term discounts available
- Wide range of storage sizes
- Pricing matrix available
Cons
- No free collection service
- Unaccessbible units outside of operating hours
What we found pretty impressive about Safe Store is that it has 3 sites in Edinburgh alone – Edinburgh Leith, Edinburgh Fort Kinnaird, and Edinburgh Gyle. So you’re definitely spoiled for choice here.
We also appreciate the variety of its storage space options. You can rent 10 sq ft lockers or a warehouse spanning more than 500ft2.
Did we mention that it’s free to reserve a unit? If you’re on the hunt for a good deal, you may want to consider Safe Store since you won’t have to shell out for a deposit.
Speaking of good deals, we also liked that there are long-term discounts available. Even so, we highly suggest reading the fine print before signing anything.
To add to its list of pros, the facility has onsite parking to help make loading and unloading a lot more convenient for its clients.
Apart from that, you can even make use of its free forklift services any time the facility is open. This way you won’t break your back carrying all your belongings.
But here’s the hitch: it doesn’t offer free collection services. That means that you’re kind of on your own when it comes to transporting your items.
To make up for this, it does have a few transport option recommendations. But then again, it would be quite troubling to have to go through a third party.
As for security, the facility has 24-hour alarms and CCTV and strict control over access. It is also regularly staffed.
So, it’s safe to say that your items aren’t going anywhere without your knowledge.
We were just a bit bummed that you can only visit your unit during opening hours. So, past that, you’re not allowed entry onto the premises.
On a brighter note, we were pleased to see that it has details on its pricing computation. Though keep in mind that you’ll have to inquire first to get a more detailed quote.
