Morton Fraser MacRoberts (MFMac) is a massive law firm with multiple branches in Scotland, established in 1614. That also means they have an enormous team, comprising over 250 lawyers.
They’re accessible, as their legal expertise encompasses individual and business tax issues, including the public sector. Plus, they can handle a wide range of tax matters, including tax planning, corporate tax, and inheritance tax.
They also prove that experience matters, as their tax lawyers have been brilliant. During our research, we found that they have a diverse team from different backgrounds, who have delivered the best possible outcomes.
As far as their professionalism goes, we were chuffed by how positively they treated their clients. Most of our interviewees praised the support their lawyers provided during tough times.
But as a big law firm, their rates aren’t the cheapest. The good thing is that they’re transparent, offering fixed and hourly pricing.
Highly professional and impressively thorough

Her support made a real difference, and I felt confident and well-informed throughout. I would highly recommend Nikita to anyone in need of expert legal assistance. Thank you again!”

We love a law firm that specialises in a wide range of areas, just like Jones Whyte, which was founded in 2013. They’ve impressed us, which was no shocker considering their over a decade of experience.
What do they specialise in? Loads, although they don’t primarily focus on tax law. Nonetheless, they handle legal cases for individuals and businesses, including inheritance tax.
One of our favourite things is their tailored approach since legal cases are complex. From what we’ve seen, they know how to put clients first by being transparent, supportive, and respectful.
And yes, they actually do all these things. According to our client surveys, their tax lawyers remained honest, understanding, and professional throughout, regardless of the case results.
But we were iffy when we heard reports that they responded a wee bit later than usual. Still, this isn’t a common issue because most clients noted their responsiveness and how quickly they sorted out any problems.
Had an incredibly positive experience
“I have to say I had an incredibly positive experience when working with Jones Whyte. My case was dealt with the utmost professionalism and sensitivity. Nicola Waters was absolutely brilliant. She explained everything in terms I could understand and spent time updating me regularly. From start to finish the treatment I received has been fantastic.”

Efficient and quick to assist with any queries
“My case was handled by Cameron Shaw who from the outset was helpful, empathetic and professional in challenging circumstances. He is knowledgeable, hard working and I always felt more at ease knowing I could rely on his expert assistance.
The firm as a whole have always been efficient and quick to assist with any queries or issues and I would like to take the time to thank them all for their efforts. Would strongly recommend their services as a capable, professional and caring team.”

A law firm in Glasgow that jumped out at us is Harper Macleod LLP. They’ve received recognition in Scotland, including the Scottish Law Firm of the Year, which they earned more than once, might I add.
There’s no worry about finding the right tax lawyer because they have specialists in all disciplines. They have a large team, too, making them accessible no matter what tax issue you’re going through.
Additionally, we appreciate that they’re available for individuals and businesses. Their areas of expertise include capital gains tax, income tax, inheritance tax, and personal taxation.
You know what else? They handle all sectors, from food to energy. However, they’re not the most affordable tax law firm in Glasgow, so they aren’t the most accessible for all budgets.
You get what you pay for, though, as the majority of the clients we surveyed had positive experiences. Their lawyers showed utmost professionalism from beginning to end, ensuring each client was updated and felt supported.
Helped me understand things clearly
“Paige Watson helped me so much to understand things clearly as I have dyslexia, sometimes it’s difficult for me to process things properly and she was so patient And had no problem going into depth when I asked questions or didn’t understand something And made what could have been a stressful experience for myself a pleasant one her knowledge understanding and patience is rare to find these days she is an asset to your team and I personally I’m grateful for everything she done for me. Thank you so much Paige. I really do appreciate it.💖”

Gibson Kerr has established themselves in Glasgow, as they’ve been around for a really long time (over a century!). While they mainly specialise in family and property law, they still provide tax planning services at reasonable rates!
Their focus is on financial and tax planning, inheritance tax, and capital gains tax. Although their expertise in tax is slightly limited compared to other law firms in the area, we still think they’re a solid option.
When it comes to their tax lawyers, we had no issues. From our observations, they were attentive, straightforward, and gave their sole focus to the client, even when handling more than one case at a time.
However, they don’t have the biggest team. But that’s a minor inconvenience only when their calendar is packed.
The positive side? They can give you full attention. We also appreciate how clearly they explain things—no complicated jargon and only in plain English that clients will understand.
Did the hard work
“Susie, I would like to thank you and your firm for the hard work you did for me. It was a difficult time as I was coming to terms with what had happened and making the process easy and taking the weight off my shoulders. If I need any help in the future, I will definitely come to you all again.”
Excellent service
“Excellent service and outcomes from my dealings with GK – for will advice, flat sale and negotiations on a separate land sale transaction. My queries attended to in a courteous, timely and efficient manner – just what was wanted/needed. Very impressed.”

There’s something incredible when the law firm can handle domestic and international clients, which is precisely what Brodies LLP does. Their expertise extends beyond Scotland, without leaving their Glasgow office!
Their expertise makes them accessible to Scots who live in or outside the country. How? They have global partner firms, ensuring they’re equipped to assist international clients.
On top of that, they handle legal cases across all sectors, from real estate to the government. What else is incredible? They assist individuals, families, businesses, and organisations.
Sadly, their accessibility isn’t perfect, as evidenced by a couple of complaints regarding their communication skills. They could’ve responded quicker, to be honest.
These cases are one-offs, fortunately. From our surveys, the tax lawyers were always responsive and kept clients informed.
Plus, many praised them for being professional. Overall, this law firm excels at providing positive service to its clients, all at a price that isn’t too high in Glasgow.
Dealt with everything in a clear, timely, and professional manner
“After 3 years of struggle using other solicitors I tried Brodies. Christy dealt with everything in a clear, timely and professional manner. Clear communication of advice for next steps where always available and my divorce was finalised a few short months. Wish had gone to Brodies in the first place.”
