Pros
- Open until late every day
- Owner completed training at Thai Traditional Medicine Association of Thailand and Thai massage & Spa Academy
- Massages are competitively priced
- Offers double rooms
Cons
- Can get a bit noisy and rowdy
- Minor complaints about poor booking system
Ruan Mai Thai Massage Therapy was opened and is run by Sompong (Gay) McGill. Native to Thailand, McGill first trained at the Thai Traditional Medicine Association of Thailand under Kobkit Rattanasaring.
There, she learned how to use Thai massage to treat particular physical issues. Afterwards, she trained at the Thai massage & Spa Academy.
Hence, her spa offers a wide array of traditional Thai massages not usually seen in most Thai massage parlours, such as hot herbal compress and tok sen thai therapy.
We think this hands-on learning experience gives McGill an edge compared to her competitors. This also explains the therapeutic sessions many of her customers rave about.
To be specific, many praised McGill’s talent and dedication to her work. Hence, it’s no surprise that clients look for McGill to do their massages.
However, this also means they’re often quite busy, which can lead to a noisy and rowdy atmosphere that’s the least ideal for a massage.
We’ve also heard a few unfortunate instances of booking disasters, some even resulting in cancellations. So, we hope that their management finds a better way to optimise their booking system.
On a brighter note, we think that the cost of their treatments is competitively priced, starting at £40 for an hour-long massage.
Clients can also book double rooms to enjoy massages with a partner or friend.

Pros
- Traditionally-trained therapists
- Long business hours
- Offers couple rooms
- Massages are relaxing and easy to fall asleep to
- Reasonably priced massages
- Clients can choose their designated therapists
Cons
- Limited selection of massage treatments
- Snippy receptionist and manager
- Some issues about noise when busy
What’s great about Castle Thai Spa is that they provide authentic Thai massages thanks to their traditionally-trained therapists. We think that this ensures clients a genuine Thai experience.
They also provide an array of treatments, though we do admit that we find it a bit limited. Nevertheless, they range from beauty-oriented to therapeutic pain relief treatments.
According to clients we’ve spoken to, their most popular offering is the Traditional Thai Massage. Their therapists use a unique mix of rhythmic acupressure, deep stretches, and gentle rocking to open up the joints and relax the muscles.
We think their massages are reasonably priced, especially for the quality you’ll be receiving.
Since they are quite popular, many make use of the reservation feature on their website to secure a slot. We like that clients can even select their therapist of choice for their session.
Though, if you plan on making a reservation over the phone, we do have to warn you that their receptionist (and manager) is quite snippy. Unfortunately, you won’t be spared his attitude in person either.
Their therapists, on the other hand, are warm and welcoming. Many clients also fall asleep during their sessions, which we think says a lot about how relaxing it is.
However, we did receive a few complaints about noise due to their thin walls. Though this is mostly an issue when they receive an influx of clients.
On the plus side, they’re open until 8 PM on weekdays and 7 PM on weekends, which makes them a great option for those looking to loosen up after a long day.

Pros
- Offer a wide range of treatments
- Therapists are highly skilled in identifying problem areas
- Therapists are kind and professional
- Open until 8 PM daily
Cons
- Quite pricey
- No online booking
What we liked most about Mind and Body Thai Spa is their wide range of treatments, from traditional Thai to Swedish massages.
We think this makes them a great option for adventurous people looking to explore different kinds of massages.
Their newest and most unique treatment would be the 4-hand massage, which has 2 therapists working synchronously on a single patient.
Based on our assessment, this is definitely one of the best choices for optimum muscle relaxation.
If you’re looking for a special kind of aromatherapy, you can opt for their traditional Thai herbal therapy. Here, they rub the body with hot tea bags with essential oils for deep relaxation.
Unfortunately, we do think that their rates are quite high and may not fit everyone’s budget. Though, several clients we’ve gotten in touch with claimed that the price tag is worth it.
Another inconvenience is that they don’t have an online booking system. So, you’ll have to make an appointment the old-fashioned way by giving them a ring.
On the brighter side, their staff are incredibly kind and professional, based on our encounters. Many clients we’ve spoken to also praised their skill and consistency throughout their treatments.
In our experience, it’s as if their therapists know exactly where the tension is by a simple touch. From there, they’re able to work out the knots with ease.

Pros
- Wide selection of treatments
- Open daily
- Clients can choose their therapists upon booking
- Fees are reasonably priced
- Heated massage beds
Cons
- Irregular business hours
- Few complaints about too much pressure
Unique to Bodyworks Edinburgh is that aside from regular massages, they also offer physiotherapy, pilates, and sports therapy services.
We think this makes them a great one-stop shop for alleviating any body pain. To boot, we find their prices quite reasonable, starting at £35 for 30 minutes.
Speaking of, while it’s great that they’re open daily, we found their irregular business hours to be a tad confusing. So, we suggest double-checking before scheduling an appointment.
Nevertheless, they have an efficient online booking system that lets you choose your therapist. In our opinion, this is great for extra picky clients that have already established rapport with one of their staff.
We did encounter a few complaints from some clients feeling pain after their session. We think this is most likely due to therapists applying too much pressure.
In our experience, their therapists are easy to get along with, so there shouldn’t be any trouble asking them to lighten up a bit, especially since their goal is to make you feel more relaxed.
Did we mention that they have heated massage beds? We definitely think that this makes the massage experience worthwhile since it adds an additional layer of comfort and warmth.

Pros
- Offers a wide selection of authentic Thai massages
- Treatments are reasonably priced
- Offers mixed classic massage treatments
- Therapists often ask about preferences and comfort level
Cons
- Doesn’t offer prenatal massages
- Closes early and not available on Sundays and Mondays
After years of mastering Thai massage in her native land, Thailand, Anna brought all her learnings to Edinburgh, where she offers a wide selection of authentic Thai massages.
To many of the locals here, Anna is their go-to when preparing for a marathon, alleviating pain from injuries, or simply de-stress.
It’s also great for customers’ wallets that her treatments are reasonably priced, starting at £35 for a 30-minute session.
Unfortunately, they’re not qualified to perform prenatal massages. So, expecting mums may want to explore the other entries on this list instead.
Another thing we love about her parlour is that she offers mixed classic massage treatments, which are simply combinations of different techniques.
In our opinion, this is great for those who’d like to spice up their regular massages by incorporating a short 30-minute foot or head massage. We think both are great ways to end a session, don’t you think?
Based on our experience, we were happy with their client-focused approach. In particular, their therapists often asked about our comfort level and preferences, which helped them tailor the experience to our needs.
As for availability, we were a tad disappointed that they’re closed on Sundays and Mondays. They also close quite early, which is a bummer for those looking for a relaxing evening massage.

Pros
- Wide range of massage treatments
- Mobile treatments available
- Holistic therapies
- LGBTQ+ proudly owned business
- Chemical free, organic, non-GMO and environmentally friendly products
Cons
- Operating hours unavailable
Olive Tree Holistic Therapies started with André, an experienced complementary and soft tissue therapist who offers a wide range of massage therapies.
The treatments offered here include Relaxation Massage, Relax+ Aromatherapy Massage, Oncology Relaxation Massage (Free), Deep Tissue Muscle Release Massage, Sports Massage, Active Listening Massage, Heal+ Lymphatic Drainage.
All these treatments can be tried at in their clinic, but we like that they also offer mobile treatments just as long as they’re requested in advance.
Our favorite thing about their clinic (besides their excellent massage services of course!) is how they aim to provide a safe, nurturing, trauma informed and a judgement free space.
Moreover, they make use of a holistic approach to ensure the wellbeing of each client.
They just aim to be a healing place for everyone. As an LGBTQ+ proudly owned business, they’re an ally to Queer people and will definitely be a safe space for them.
Not only do they provide person-centred and evidence-based care for each client, they also make an effort to reduce their negative impact on the environment.
We like that their products are chemical free, organic, non-GMO and environmentally friendly.
It’s truly a fantastic place with great service and an amazing staff that offers treatments that actually work. We highly recommend!

Cons

Nia is the qualified massage therapist behind The Small Massage Room, a full member of The Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT). They are also a holistic therapist as they provide each client with a tailored treatment.
What’s great about massage therapy is that it will not only heal you physically, but also emotionally. With Nia, all the nooks and crannies will be reached and after the session, you will feel like a new person.
We prefer The Small Massage Room over others because Nia really take her time to understand what clients want out of the session. She gives more attention to problem, thus, making a massive difference for the client.
Aside from this, we like them because they accept bookings in a short notice. Perfect for people who wants to get a massage as soon as they feel knots that may seem to become a problem if left unchecked.
What we like about The Small Massage Room is their small shop wherein clients can buy their products they use for treatments. To make it even better, their products are now available to buy on a refillery basis.

Pros
- Wide range of services
- Caters to unique needs of individuals
Cons
- Limited information on the company
In the vibrant city of Edinburgh, Holistic & Sports Massage stands as a beacon for those seeking diverse massage experiences.
We like that they’re offering a range of services, including sports massage, Thai massage, deep tissue massage, foot massage, Indian head massage, and Swedish massage.
We think all their services are excellent and overall help promote holistic well-being for each individual.
They aim to cater to the unique needs of individuals seeking relaxation, pain relief, and overall well-being, and this is what we like about them.
However, there is little information on their experience and the like.
