How We Reviewed
Material Quality and Local Authenticity: We looked for makers who use genuine Scottish materials like local heather, island gemstones, and ethical metals.
Craftsmanship and Design Variety: We checked that these workshops offer sturdy settings, clean finishes, and distinct designs that stand out from typical high-street chains.
Customisation and Aftercare Services: We gave higher marks to jewellers who offer clear design consultations, fair repair policies, and reliable workshop support.
Price Transparency and Value: Nobody likes hidden fees when commissioning a ring or picking up a gift. We made sure these shops offer clear pricing across different budgets, so you know what you’re paying for.
1. Heathergems

Website:https://www.heathergems.com/
Address: 22 Atholl Road, Pitlochry
Contact: +44 (0)1796 474391
Hours: Monday to Sunday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Travellers wanting a genuine piece of the Highlands won’t find anything else like Heathergems. They’re the only makers in the world crafting sustainable jewellery from hand-harvested Scottish heather.
Their team gathers wild heather stems near Pitlochry, then dries, dyes, and compresses them into colourful blocks.
At the shop, you can even watch the makers hand-shape and lacquer the compressed stems!
And because natural stems vary in shade, no two pendants, brooches, earrings, or silver rings ever look the same. It makes a brilliant, lightweight souvenir that doesn’t cost a fortune.
However, if you’re ordering online from home, keep their shipping rules in mind. You only get free UK delivery if your basket hits £49.
Also, you have to place your order before 12:00 PM if you want same-day dispatch.

Good luck leaving without buying something!
Such a great shop and experience. I fell in love with the beautiful Heathergems jewellery in Edinburgh many years ago and have visited the actual factory many times since. The video introduction is great a 7 min spent to understand the whole system. The opportunity to see into the factory itself is awesome and obviously the shop is the best bit! Good luck leaving without buying something!

2. Scottish Island Jewellery

Website:https://www.scottishislandjewellery.co.uk/
Address: 23 Argyll Square, Oban
Contact: 01631 570005; 07760 297957
Hours: Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
If a trip to the Hebrides or Orkney holds a special place in your heart, Scottish Island Jewellery turns that memory into wearable art.
Here, makers Shirley and Richard handcraft gold and sterling silver pieces shaped like exact silhouettes of Scottish islands.
You can pick up pendants, cufflinks, bracelets, tie tacks, and earrings modelled after Skye, Barra, Shetland, Rum, and Orkney.
Beyond their island map designs, they offer a brilliant remodelling service for old heirlooms. You can bring in dated gem-set pieces, and they’ll carefully dismantle them to craft modern rings or pendants.
That said, their literal island cutout shapes won’t suit fans of simple, conventional jewellery. Also, they’re closed on Sundays, so plan your West Coast visit during weekdays.

Hope to visit again
Popped in on the off chance whilst on a visit to Oban and so happy that I did. The gentleman was so helpful going above and beyond to fix a charm onto a necklace for me. He did it so quickly and with no fuss. Fabulous price and great service what else do you need. Hope to visit again.

Polite, knowledgeable, professional and very helpful
Absolutely fabulous service. I took my bracelet in to the shop last week to get advice on if it could be fixed. The lady in the shop (sorry I didn’t catch her name) was so helpful and fixed my bracelet on site for a very small amount of money. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone. Polite, knowledgeable, professional and very helpful.

It’s wonderful to find locally made jewelry and stones that don’t all come from the other side of the world. There’s an incredible amount of exquisite craftsmanship on the pieces at the back of the shop; the stones and gold are simply stunning! The staff are kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. 💜 …

final piece was everything I could have hoped for
I cannot recommend Sarah and the team at SH Jewellery enough! Sarah provided an absolutely brilliant, personal service when helping me design and source a bespoke ring. The craftsmanship is flawless, and the final piece was everything I could have hoped for. Most importantly… my girlfriend said yes! Thank you, Sarah.

5. Helen Swan Designer Jewellery

Website:https://hswanjewellery.co.uk/
Address: 3 Manor Rd, Glasgow
Contact: +44 141 959 5586
Hours: Monday to Sunday, 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Couples wanting a one-of-a-kind engagement ring or a meaningful remodel should look straight to Helen Swan Designer Jewellery in Glasgow.
Helen blends traditional goldsmithing with modern techniques to craft bespoke, made-to-order pieces. She works with Eco Silver, Fairtrade Gold, and conflict-free Kimberley Process gemstones, so you know your ring has clean roots.
A close friend commissioned her to remodel his grandmother’s vintage rings last year, and he couldn’t stop praising the thoughtful consultations.
Better yet, Helen backs all her work with a lifetime guarantee under a fair use policy. If a custom setting ever breaks, she fixes it free of charge!
But because she handcrafts everything in small batches, turnaround times take a bit of patience.
Additionally, you can’t exchange bespoke commissions or pieces made to specific measurements if you change your mind later.

Absolutely amazing
Helen designed jewellery for my daughter for her forthcoming wedding. This was all done remotely due to covid restrictions. It has arrived to us and is stunning. My daughter said ‘had an idea in my head with no substance really and she brought it to form. Love it.’ Cannot recommend Helen enough for the pieces she makes, bespoke pieces she does and the service she provides. Absolutely amazing.

I love it
Helen has designed and created me the most beautiful ring I have ever owned. Made from two inherited diamond family rings and some jewellery I never wore. I was so impressed with the whole process from design to the finished work of art. I love it.
