Caledonia Tutors know what learners need. They provide guidance in various science subjects, including biology, chemistry, and physics, whether it’s for reviews or homework.

How are the science tutors, you ask? Supportive. Most parents we spoke with were pleased with how the tutors helped their children, including fostering a positive learning space.

A free 15-minute meeting is available as well, which we appreciate because these can help the learner and parents see if the tutor is a good fit. But it’s a bummer that these meetings aren’t available from February to May.

Some tutors don’t have years of experience, though, since they mostly employ recent graduates and undergraduates. While this may not appeal to everyone, the advantage is that they can connect with the learners since they’re part of the young generation.

They also offer online and in-person sessions for primary to advanced higher levels, making them accessible. Even better, Caledonia Tutors provide 24/7 support!

Pros

  • Offers in-person and online sessions
  • Supportive tutors
  • Connects with the young generation
  • Provides 24/7 support

Cons

  • Most tutors are undergrads or recent grads
  • Free meetings aren’t available year-round

Delighted with the quality of the tuition

“We’ve been delighted with the quality of the tuition Danny Lavery has provided for our son this year. Danny initially provided Higher maths tuition but was able to split his lessons so that he could provide physics support too. We really appreciated this and were impressed by the way in which Danny was able to explain to our son how to apply the maths theory to some of the problems he was grappling with in physics, in a way which was really engaging. We felt our son was relaxed and well-prepared for both exams, and are hoping this bodes well for his results.”

Always accommodating and makes a real effort

“Great service and the tutors are really nice. They are always accommodating and make a real effort to encourage which is great. My daughter has got on great with the tutors which makes it easier for her to ask for general advice & they’ve made her more confident in her subjects. Recommended.”

MyTutor is a place that makes it easy to find learning support in Edinburgh. This is a platform that provides science tutors who have diverse experiences and credentials.

The tutors are all from top universities in the UK, but they’re undergraduates, so there may be potential gaps in teaching and credentials. That’s quite alright, considering they’re transparent about their qualifications and teaching experience.

Cost-wise, they’re not going to break the bank. You can find a tutor for as little as £25 per hour in a simple pay-as-you-go system, with no sign-up fees and no contracts required—basically, you only pay for the hour you book.

We like their flexibility because they offer online tutoring, although that means there are no in-person options. Nonetheless, the free 15-minute meeting allows the parents to see if the tutor is the right fit for their child.

And from what we’ve seen, their tutors know how to adapt their teaching styles, even during complex science problems!

Pros

  • Tutors are all from top UK universities
  • Transparent about qualifications
  • Affordable prices
  • Flexible hours
  • Pay what you book system

Cons

  • Only provides undergraduate tutors
  • No in-person sessions

I really liked the professional approach

“We’ve used My Tutor for my daughters. Jess taught my eldest during her A Levels and helped massively with her grades and confidence. I really liked the professional approach and was impressed by her teaching style – she was always very helpful. More recently we contacted My Tutor again and Sara made a real effort in finding the right tutor. Would definitely recommend My Tutor”

Professional and provides catered support

“My son has A Level Biology sessions from a tutor at My tutor, I cannot recommend her enough. She is so professional, she provides catered support, detailed insight to the approach for learning, she provides regular feedback and lesson plans. My son had been able to be ahead of the whole class learning at school which is proof of the support.”

If you’re looking for an accessible tutoring centre in Edinburgh, Explore Learning is a solid choice. They have multiple branches in Scotland that offer free 1-hour trials!

We also like the flexible schedule, available in online and in-person lessons. Conveniently, there are one-on-one and group sessions, although solo lessons are only available virtually.

While it’s a letdown that they don’t offer a science-only session, their tutors can still assist learners in the subject matter since they provide entrance exam tuition. This will help the child study to pass exams, which include science.

As for the pricing, we found it within the average range in Edinburgh. A group session can cost £23 to £30 per meeting, which isn’t bad for the support the learner will receive.

The parents we spoke with noted the positive impact that Explore Learning has made on their children. The students showed progress in their science subjects, which is what we really want here!

Pros

  • Has several branches
  • Price matches the quality of service
  • Offers online and group sessions
  • Provides free 1-hour trials
  • Flexible schedule

Cons

  • Solo lessons are online only
  • No science-only tuition

The brilliant thing about Novatutors is that they teach all subjects and years. Yes, that means they can help learners of any age who want to study all branches of science!

Their focus is on online learning, so no in-person sessions. The learner still receives one-on-one tutoring, so they have all the attention from their science tutor.

Plus, their tutors received top marks and come from the leading UK universities, ensuring they can provide the best guidance. Although some are still undergrads without loads of experience, they still possess up-to-date science knowledge.

The payment structure is a wee bit different, though. You pay for a learning membership, which starts at £160 for four hours of tutoring per month.

Although that seems easy enough, it breaks down to £40 per hour, which is just a bitty higher than other tutoring centres in Edinburgh. The pros? You receive unlimited free meetings to find the best science tutor, access to AI tools, and you can cancel anytime.

Pros

  • Teaches all years and subjects
  • Tutors received top marks at university
  • Possesses up-to-date knowledge
  • Free unlimited meetings
  • Flexible cancellation policy

Cons

  • Prices are a wee bit higher

My daughter had a fantastic experience

“My daughter had a fantastic experience with Micky who tutored her in physics! It has been brilliant to witness her confidence grow. Micky really helped unlock the knowledge my daughter had and explained things in a manner that worked for her. Highly recommend”

Very professional

“I contacted Alan at Novatutors, as my daughter was requiring some assistance with Chemistry. I found Novatutors to be very professional. Alan got back to me very quickly with a tutor who was available to help my daughter. Daniela, the tutor has been brilliant. My daughter is happier about Chemistry and her class test marks have been improving too. Dealing with Novatutors has been very straightforward and I can’t recommend them highly enough.”

Every session is individually tailored for each learner at BK tutoring, which is one of the reasons we like them. Their tutors can achieve this because they have years of professional teaching experience in the UK.

One more reason is their specialisation, which includes various scientific disciplines, such as biology, chemistry, and physics. Guess what else? They’re accessible for children and adults at uni!

Their focus is online learning, which offers a more flexible schedule. The drawback is that it doesn’t suit all learners, so the lack of in-person tutoring sessions is a bit of a shame.

Nevertheless, we appreciate that they provide exactly what the learner needs and more. Their science tutor will use past papers to help with the students’ studies and all materials are shared for easy access.

BK Tutoring doesn’t have a lot of tutors, though, so that nips off a few points for accessibility. Still, they’re worth the wait because their expertise extends from basic to advanced science topics!

Pros

  • Individually tailored learning
  • Tutors have professional experience
  • Teaches children and adults
  • Expertise extends to advanced topics

Cons

  • No in-person tutoring
  • Limited number of tutors

Personalised approach tailored to specific needs

“Highly impressed with the tutoring provided by BK tutors. Their in-depths knowledge of the subject matter helped my son understand complex concepts with clarity. The personalised approach tailored to our specific needs is particularly appreciated. Would highly recommend BK Tutoring for their exceptional services!”
