The 3 Best Rock Climbing Gyms in Aberdeen for a Rockin’ Experience
Growing up, Spider-Man was the man. I’d be scaling the stair balusters, jumping from our couch, and hanging onto monkey bars, but all I got were bruises and a couple of tears from one or two incorrect landings.
Now, the closest I can get to actually being Spider-Man is clinging to a bouldering wall and hoping that my sweat doesn’t get into my eye and my chalked hands don’t betray me. Still, climbing is worth it, chalk, sweat, tears, and all. Oh, and the bragging rights. Can’t forget those.
I’ve scraped my knees and blistered my hands enough times, so you don’t have to. Here’s a list of rock climbing gyms where even beginners can make it to the top. Now, hang tight and read on for the best rock climbing gyms in Aberdeen.

Having just opened in 2025, Bloc 10 is the newest rock climbing studio on the block. With about 500 square meters of climbing space, it features a finger board training area, Moon Board, different angled walls, and more, giving climbers a mix of creative problems.
There’s one little downside: it’s bouldering only. So if you want to climb ropes, you’ll need to go elsewhere. On the bright side, Bloc 10 is still new, so there are many upgrades still on their way and amenities under development, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
Whether you’re dropping in solo or with the whole crew, Bloc 10 has a pass that fits. We like that you can choose from a variety of flexible options, from a 5-entry bundle, perfect if you’re not sure when you’ll be back, to a 4-week pass if you’re ready to commit and get that climb on.

Transition Extreme is one of the largest sports centres in Aberdeen, boasting over 50 routes, 60 bouldering problems, and 70 top rope routes, with grades ranging from beginner to 8A+. We think it’s a real all-arounder that works for all levels and ages.
That said, it isn’t a dedicated climbing gym, so you won’t find as many specialised training walls, and the bouldering area can feel a bit tight compared to standalone bouldering gyms, especially during busy hours.
On the plus side, the facilities and equipment were top-notch. We especially love the several auto belays, which make solo climbing possible without always needing a partner.
It’s also worth highlighting that Transition Extreme also has a strong community focus, with junior programmes and inclusive sessions for climbers with additional support needs. The coaches aren’t just well-qualified but are genuinely supportive of climbers of all skill levels.
Definitely recommend for indoor climbing beginners
“My fiancé and I visited the climbing gym at transition extreme for the first time. We attended a ‘learn to climb and belay’ course with the instructor Joe. Joe was excellent, very informative and made the course fun with his many stories about what has happened to people who’ve not kept up with the basic safety protocols he was very encouraging when it came to us both actually climbing and made us both feel very safe on the wall. We will definitely be back and have already bought multiple climbing sessions to return with. We didn’t see much of the facilities outside the climbing area, but the climbing area itself was well kept, fairly busy on a Sunday morning and everyone was friendly and chatty. Would definitely recommend for indoor climbing beginners.”

If it wasn’t obvious, RGU SPORT is the fitness hub at Robert Gordon University’s Garthdee Campus. And while it’s technically a uni facility, it’s open to everyone, and I mean everyone.
Fair warning: it can get quite busy, but their climbing setup is what has us coming back. Their centre section features an 11-metre indoor wall, perfect for lead or top-rope climbing, with a variety of routes to choose from.
Plus, there’s also a dedicated bouldering room, though we were quite disappointed that it’s on the smaller side and doesn’t have as much variety or frequent resets compared to what you’ll find in dedicated gyms.
That said, we still think the centre is a great option, especially for beginners. They run taster sessions and “learn to climb” courses, which make starting out easy. And for more experienced climbers, their instructors can do assessments to help them climb independently with confidence.
Facilities are amazing
“Despite being at the campus, its really for everybody who wants to come, not just for students.
The facilities are amazing and there is a kind of feeling of community, we are all friends and always new people joining us. not that sensation that people just want to show off their muscles like in other gyms. Recommended.”
