How We Reviewed

Class Variety: We looked at the range of styles each studio offers. Venues providing everything from ballet to commercial styles scored highly.m
Instructor Qualifications: We checked that the teachers hold proper credentials and safeguarding certifications. This ensures a safe and professional environment for all ages.
Student Progression: We reviewed how easily students can advance through different skill levels. Studios offering clear pathways or recognized exam syllabi earned extra points.
Schedule Flexibility: We evaluated the timetables to see if they accommodate busy working adults and families. Venues with weekend or late-evening options proved much more convenient.

Operating since 2006, Nicole O’Donnell Dance Academy provides an incredibly polished, welcoming environment for dancers of all ages.

You immediately sense their deep community roots and organizational expertise the moment you walk through the doors. I recently watched one of their commercial dance sessions, and the students showed remarkable focus and pure joy.

The curriculum seamlessly supports toddlers taking their first steps all the way to adults perfecting their technique. They even offer an optional competition pathway for those craving a bigger stage challenge.

Moreover, the instructors are fully certified, insured, and deeply invested in student safety through the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.

I appreciate that their monthly payment structure is highly organized, but the downside to that is you must give a full month’s written notice to leave or switch classes.

That slight strictness aside, the sheer quality of instruction and clear progression routes make this studio a phenomenal place to learn and grow.

Pros

  • Varied class options
  • Qualified and safeguarded teachers
  • Training from early childhood to adulthood
  • Optional competition pathway

Cons

  • Strict one-month cancellation notice required

Holding the title of Scotland’s largest and longest-running salsa school, Academia de Salsa offers an unbeatable Latin dance experience. They possess an impressive track record of teaching more than 35,000 people how to master salsa steps!

I attended one of their beginner classes a few months ago, and the step-by-step guidance made me feel instantly confident without needing a partner.

Their flexible six-week package is fantastic for busy schedules, giving you unlimited access to lessons for just £60. You can also practice your new moves at their free weekly socials hosted in popular venues across the city.

On the flip side, the curriculum remains strictly focused on salsa and Latin styles, so you will need to look elsewhere for traditional contemporary or ballet training.

Additionally, their current schedule only covers Monday through Thursday. You cannot book weekend classes, which might frustrate anyone with a packed weekday routine.

Pros

  • Established salsa school history
  • Flexible six-week unlimited package
  • Structured beginner salsa pathway
  • Free weekly Glasgow socials

Cons

  • No non-Latin styles
  • Weekday-only class schedule

Well-Organised Salsa Lessons

I have attended salsa classes on and off for 6 years returning to my first dance school.. academia de salsa after lockdown. It is the best in teaching but also in commitment. Classes are not cancelled and you are guaranteed a worthwhile lesson. It is well organised, enjoyable and welcoming. Definitely the best dancer school !!

Welcoming Salsa Classes for All

John and I have been coming to salsa classes in Glasgow Academia for over a year now.  We have thoroughly enjoyed our time and highly recommend anyone young or old single/married to learn to dance.  You are made to feel very welcome by the teachers and with that a social gathering develops.  You wont be disappointed.  Give it a try!

Address: 19 Westbourne Gardens

Class timetable

Specializing strictly in the Cecchetti method, The Studio provides rigorous classical ballet training for all experience levels. Dancers can study the complete syllabus from Primary basics right through to Advanced and Diploma stages.

Every single Cecchetti class features beautiful live piano accompaniment, adding a wonderful touch of authenticity to the training.

They proudly welcome a massive age range, teaching students from three years old all the way to 83. Dedicated pupils frequently secure spots in prestigious associate schemes, including those at Scottish Ballet and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland!

That said, because they focus almost entirely on classical ballet, you will not find a broad mix of commercial or hip-hop styles here. The only alternative options are tap, repertoire, and pre-school music movement.

If you want a highly diverse, multi-genre timetable, this specific venue might not completely match your needs.

Pros

  • Beautiful live piano accompaniment
  • Incredibly wide age range
  • Complete Cecchetti syllabus range
  • Strong student progression routes

Cons

  • Limited non-ballet class options

Live-Music Dance Classes for All Ages

This dance studio offers teaching of the highest standard for pre-school pupils right through to adults of all ages. Everyone is welcomed, encouraged and helped to improve by the excellent teachers,  no matter their ability. The classes are accompanied by live music provided by wonderful pianists but perhaps  most in its favour is the fact it is just the happiest place to be in.

Supportive and Professional Dance Staff

I have danced at the Studio for many years and I have daughters who learned to dance there as small children and continued to dance there for many years.  Staff are supportive, caring and professional.  Highly recommended.

The Ghungroo Academy of Dance stands out among local dance studios by offering a space to immerse yourself in traditional Indian arts. They deliver detailed training in Bharatanatyam alongside traditional folk dances and Rabindranritya.

Kamalika Ghosh, the founder and teacher, earned the Sangeet Bivakar award with First Division distinction and is currently a registered Bharatanatyam teacher under Griffin College London.

Classes start from age five and cater to both recreational dancers and students following a formal nine-grade examination path through Griffin College London.

To protect individual instruction quality, class sizes remain strictly limited.

However, training focuses solely on Indian dance forms rather than general commercial or contemporary styles.

Sessions also run for one hour on weekends only, which may limit scheduling options.

Pros

  • Formal nine-grade certification pathway
  • Highly qualified founder and lead instructor
  • Intentionally limited class sizes
  • Options for both exams and recreational learning

Supportive Theatre and Dance Training

My son has been attending Inter for the last 3-4 years. I cannot say enough good things about this school.  From the teachers who are incredibly supportive and encouraging, to the facilities that really offer everything that is required to develop young talent.  It’s a fabulous place for any kids who are interested in Theatre and Dance. We’ve enjoyed the Summer and Christmas shows which are amazing, so professional and allow us parents to see the growth of the kids. Thanks for everything Inter Team.  You are amazing!

Confidence-Building Performing Arts Classes

This is a gem of a place! You can feel the energy and positivity when you go through the door. It’s a happy place where the kids are not only taught the skills and professionalism required to work in the performing arts industry, but they also emerge happy, buoyant and full of enthusiasm at the end a mornings class. My daughter loves going to Inter; it’s the highlight of her week. Over the past year she has acquired new skills,  made new friendships, and most importantly has gained lots of self confidence.  Thank you Inter!
