With more than 30 years of experience in the industry, Vision Express Opticians offers a comprehensive array of eye care services.
They have a large inventory of eyewear options, from adult sunglasses to children’s eyeglasses. We like that they carry many brands, styles, and designs, so you’ll definitely be spoilt for choice here.
They also carry different contact lenses, from daily disposable to multifocal/varifocal. They also have all the necessary accessories, such as contact lens solution and eye drops.
If you’re unsure about getting contact lenses, it’s worth mentioning that they offer a free assessment and trial. In our view, this is a great way to see if you like them enough to purchase a set.
It’s also worth highlighting that they provide an array of eye tests for adults and children. Equally important, they utilise several state-of-the-art optical technologies to detect early signs of eye conditions and diseases.
While it’s great that they’re open daily, we have to warn you that they see a large number of customers every day. So, it can get quite crowded despite having 9 stores across Glasgow.
However, because of such demand, there have been a couple of instances wherein customers have reported long waiting times and poor customer service.
Alternatively, they offer free delivery for orders above £35 for extra convenience. Keep in mind that it’ll take around 15 days before prescription eyewear is ready.
Nevertheless, we think that their perks make up for it. Specifically, they provide free lifetime servicing, which will definitely save you a couple of quid in the long run.
We appreciate the protection that their free 100 days return guarantee gives customers. So, if you’re unhappy with your purchase or received a faulty pair, you won’t have to worry about shelling out more money.
Speaking of, we love that they often have sales, so it’s worth keeping updated to avail of their promos. To boot, they accept multiple payment methods for added convenience.

Pros
- Offers free consultations
- Well-known for their LASIK and cataract surgery
- Provides free frames for children up to 16 years old
- Open daily
- Clinic can perform standard and advanced diagnostic tests
Cons
- No online shop
- No delivery
Our favourite thing about Optical Express is they provide excellent comprehensive eye care, from glasses to surgery. Hence, they’re the ideal optician, in our opinion.
They’re well-known in the industry for their top-notch LASIK and cataract surgery, which are performed by their highly trained surgeons.
We were also impressed at the sight of the latest optical equipment and technology for their diagnostic and surgical needs.
That said, their clinic offers an array of standard and advanced eye examinations. To boot, their clinic is equipped to handle further diagnostic tests if needed, too.
For interested patients, we highly encourage availing of their free initial consultation. They also have a free downloadable information pack which comprehensively outlines the details of their procedures.
Since it’s free, you won’t have to worry about committing to the surgery yet. Instead, you can enquire further and ease lingering anxiousness.
Apart from that, they also offer standard prescription eyeglasses, contact lenses, and sunglasses. We like that they carry an extensive selection of brands, styles, and colours, to suit different personalities.
For those looking for good deals, it’s worth mentioning that their eyewear often goes on sale. So, we suggest keeping tabs on their page if you’re on the hunt for an affordable pair.
It’s also worth highlighting that they provide free designer frames for kiddos up to 16 years old. We love how they make their products easily accessible, especially to those on a tight budget.
Unfortunately, we were disappointed that you can’t shop their items online or have them delivered. We think this takes a toll on accessibility since customers will have no other option but to visit them in-store.
On the bright side, they’re open daily so you can pop by at your most convenient time to browse through their selection in person or speak with one of their opticians.

Pros
- Has 5 stores across Glasgow
- Easy replacement glasses order process
- Free contact lenses trial and assessment
- Online store available
- Open daily
- Delivery available
Cons
- Few complaints about inept staff
- Minor issues with long waiting times and appointment mishaps
The most noteworthy feature about Specsavers is that they offer free home visits for eligible patients. In our opinion, this additional perk will definitely make it easier for individuals with mobility issues to receive eye care.
If you’re capable of visiting one of their stores, they have 5 across Glasgow, which are open daily for easy accessibility. So, we don’t think it’ll be difficult to find one nearest your residence.
Their stores boast an array of glasses of different styles, brands, and designers for all ages and genders.
Though, if you already have a favourite pair, you can easily order replacement glasses via their website. We like the convenience since all you need to do is fill out a short form and speak to a representative, and your glasses will be at your door within 7-9 days.
As for their contact lenses, they carry an array of types and brands, so you’ll have several to choose from. If you’re just getting started, it’s worth mentioning that they offer free trials and assessments, so that you can make an informed decision before committing to getting a pair.
Another added convenience is they have an online store, so you can simply order your refills online and expect them within a few days.
But here’s the hitch: since they’re quite popular, their staff seem to constantly be flustered trying to meet the demand. A few of their past customers shared instances of long waiting times and appointment mishaps.
Meanwhile, others had a few grievances with some of the employees who seem to lack training. We think that it may be best that they ensure their new hires are supervised.
On the bright side, we admire Specsavers’ attempts to reach out to these customers and try to rectify the situation.

Pros
- Offers an exclusive selection of eyewear from renowned designers
- Eyewear is made of unique materials
- Makes their frames in-house
- Uses an environmentally-friendly plastic alternative
- Mulitple payment methods accepted
- Uses Essilor AVA for eye examinations
Cons
- Closed on weekends
- Doesn’t offer contact lenses
- Quite pricey
What sets Niche Optical Tailor apart from the other entries on our list is that their selection of eyewear comes from renowned designers such as Res Rei, Jacques Marie Mage, and Dita, to name a few.
In fact, they carry eyewear made out of unorthodox materials such as buffalo horn and sterling silver. So, if you’re up for eccentrically-styled glasses, you’ll definitely find them here.
Having said that, you can expect their prices to be quite expensive given the high-quality materials that they use. So, for many of their former customers we’ve spoken to, it’s worth the hefty sum.
We were impressed that they also make their own frames in-house. Extra discerning customers will appreciate that they use Mazzucchelli acetate, which is an environmentally-friendly alternative to plastics.
Unfortunately, they don’t carry contact lenses, which was quite a bummer as most opticians carry this. So, if you wear contacts, you may want to check out the other entries on our list instead.
On the brighter side, they offer several kinds of eye examinations. They even have the Essilor AVA, which is one of the most advanced ocular technologies available in the market.
From our perspective, patients can expect accurate assessments of their eye health. This also strengthened our positive impression of them.
We also appreciate the convenience that their online shopping brings. Customers can easily browse through their selection from the comforts of home, especially since their store is only operational on weekdays.
To boot, customers can pay online, too, as they accept several payment methods. These include Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, GooglePay, and ApplePay, among others.

Pros
- Provides specialised spectacles for children
- Has a Contact Lens Direct Debit Scheme
- Open 6 days a week
- Delivery available
- Provides home visits
Cons
- No online store
- Closed on Sundays
Having been serving the community for the last 30 years, Murray Opticians is a household favourite for many because of their wide-ranging services.
Aside from adults, they also provide children’s eye care. In fact, they have spectacles of various materials and designs to perfectly fit your child’s face and withstand daily wear and tear.
For extra-fussy children, it’s great that these glasses also have extra soft padding on the nose and sprung hinges. We appreciate the extra thought that they put into designing child-appropriate eyewear.
As for their contact lenses, they carry several brands and types. Unique to Murray Opticians is their Contact Lens Direct Debit Scheme for those who require contacts on a regular basis, but want to avoid the fuss of repurchasing.
Since their store is open 6 days a week, customers can pop by at their most convenient time. Alternatively, they can arrange for home delivery for extra convenience.
It’s also worth highlighting that they provide home visits. To us, this makes their services more accessible for the elderly and those with mobility issues.
However, it’s quite disappointing that they don’t have an online store. So, if you’re a new patient, you’ll have to drop by to view their spectacles.
Even so, we were pleased with the professionalism and helpfulness that their staff showed us. A few of their past clients we’ve spoken to shared similar experiences regarding their friendly and accommodating staff members.
