The 3 Best Dentists in Aberdeen

How we picked

Credentials

We chose dentists that had years of experience, quality certification and training, used modern techniques, and were recognised for their skills in the industry.

Clinic

We visited each clinic to ensure that they adhered to healthcare sanitation standards and were equipped with up-to-date technology.

Availability

We opted for clinics that had convenient booking systems and business hours to ensure minimal waiting times.

Payment methods

Since dental work can be quite pricey, we looked at the different financing options each clinic had to help make their services more affordable.

Dr Ryan Muir (BDS) has a wealth of experience with over 10 years in the dental industry. After graduating from Dundee Dental School in 2011, Dr Muir has worked in the NHS since.

So, he’s dealt with many patients and dental concerns over the years. According to many we’ve gotten in touch with, Dr Muir always does an amazing pain-free job.

We also appreciate that he takes the time to ensure that patients are well-informed about their dental issues and procedures.

As a result, many shared the same sentiments that these positive experiences helped ease their dread of going to the dentist.

Dr Muir also has a special interest in endodontic, paediatric and reconstructive dentistry. So, it’s no surprise that some clients specifically request him when they have concerns about these.

It’s worth mentioning that their clinic accepts both private and NHS patients. Though, we have heard a few complaints about a long waiting list for the latter.

On the brighter side, it’s great that the clinic provides weekend and emergency appointments, even for new patients. So, it’s worth keeping their number on speed dial.

We thought that it’s quite a bummer that they’re only operational on weekdays. Though, to make up for it, they’re open late on Thursdays for evening appointments.

Unfortunately, we did encounter several grievances regarding long waiting times, which can be annoying.

As for fees, their price guide is up on their website. So, interested patients already have an idea of the cost of their services.

If you have an insurance plan, it’s worth noting that they accept several types – specifically those from Bupa, Cigna, Aviva, Allianz, and AXA, among others.

You can easily book an appointment via their website. As an added convenience, they’ll also send text reminders as your appointment nears to ensure you don’t miss it.

  • ITI Study Club Director for North East Scotland
  • Provides emergency appointments
  • Financing options available
  • Open 6 days a week

Cons

  • Operate on an appointment-only basis
  • Little information on types of accepted insurance plans

Dr Andrew Scott is a seasoned dentist with over 20 years of experience up his sleeve. He’s well-known in the industry for his skills in performing dental implants with high success and patient satisfaction rates.

We found it impressive that aside from being the principal dentist of his own practice, he’s also the ITI (International Team for Implantology) Study Club Director for North East Scotland.

Hence, it’s safe to say that Dr Scott is quite the busy bee. This is especially true as he likes to stay updated with recent developments in dentistry technology.

After interviewing several of his former patients, many raved about Dr Scott’s hands-on and reassuring approach to ensuring his patients are comfortable and relaxed.

Based on our experience, he was incredibly patient and gentle, which resulted in an overall positive experience.

We can also say the same for the rest of his staff. Hence, we’d definitely recommend his clinic to nervous patients.

Another noteworthy feature of this clinic is they offer several financing options applicable to selected dental treatments. Patients can opt to spread the cost of their payments, pay-as-you-go, or avail of their 0% financing.

However, we thought that it’s a tad troublesome that there’s little information on the kinds of insurance plans they accept. So, if you’re an insurance plan holder, you’ll have to enquire.

As for availability, they’re open Mondays through Saturdays and even provide emergency appointments.

It’s also worth noting that there’s barely any waiting, which also gets plus points from us. So, we don’t think accessibility will be an area of concern.

Unfortunately, they operate on a strict appointment-only basis. Nevertheless, patients can conveniently schedule an appointment via their website.

On top of a centric location, there’s also private parking available nearby. So, you won’t have to stress about where to leave your car.

Pros

  • 16 years of industry experience
  • Special interest in implantology, restorative, aesthetic, cosmetic, and preventative dentistry
  • Accepts NHS and private patients
  • Provide emergency care and out-of-hours service
  • Fee information available
  • Financing options available
  • Online registration available

Cons

  • Closed on weekends
  • Unable to register NHS as of present
  • Must phone in before 10 AM for emergency care

After completing his studies at Dundee University in 2004, Dr Jonathan McLean took up ‘The Principles of Implant Dentistry, a year-long post-graduate course at the University of Warwick.

On top of that, he also attends courses about implantology and other areas. These include restorative, aesthetic, cosmetic, and preventative dentistry.

We appreciate that Dr McLean is on top of advancements in the industry regarding technique and equipment.

Since 2006, he has also been the principal dentist of Woodside Dental Practice. Based on our observations, Dr McLean takes an incredibly hands-on approach to manage his clinic.

According to patients we’ve spoken to, they appreciate how staff ensure a smooth and informative process, from initial consultation to dental work.

Many also praised how Dr McLean and his staff ensure that comfort is at the forefront of each appointment. Hence, it’s no surprise that the clinic is popular among anxious patients.

As for availability, it’s quite a bummer that they’re closed on weekends. On the brighter side, they provide emergency care and out-of-hours service, so we suggest saving their number just in case.

Though, it’s important to note that if you need emergency care before a work day, you’ll have to phone in before 10 AM to be squeezed in.

Unfortunately, if you call any later than that, there’s a chance that you’ll be given an appointment the following working day.

As for pricing, we think it’s great that information on their fees and a few financing options are readily available. So, interested patients can already explore their possible financing pathways.

While it’s great that they accept NHS and private patients. However, we were disappointed to find out that they cannot register any new NHS patients at the moment.

Nevertheless, you can still register online via their website. You will then be contacted to arrange an appointment once a slot opens up.
