Pros
- Traditional Chinese cuisine served in a laid back restaurant
- Has karaoke
- Has set banquet menus
- Has vegetarian options
- Delicious aromatic duck
- Great Szechuan Spare Ribs
Cons
- Some food quality issues
- Long wait times
China Town is the place to be if you’re craving traditional Chinese cuisine served in a laid back and chill restaurant. For aspiring singers out there, they also offer karaoke to help you fully enjoy your day out.
We like their set banquet menus designed to save customers some money. They have Set Banquet Menu A, B, and C, which ranges from £21-£27 per person, and each one has several meals included.
For vegetarians or those dining with vegetarians, you’d be glad to know they have vegetarian options. Their bestsellers are Ma Po Tofu (fresh bean curd cooked with spicy bean sauce) and Pak Choy (comes with either garlic and ginger or oyster sauce).
We went there and had their Whole Crispy Aromatic Duck. It was so delicious that we finished it in no time – crispy on the outside, but very juicy and tender on the inside.
We also fell in love with their Szechuan Spare Ribs. We thought it was wonderfully spicy, and their Szechuan sauce was on point.
Sadly, the same can’t be said of their Szechuan Chicken. It was still a bit raw on the inside, so we had to send it back.
Also, while our various dishes arrived in a timely manner, we found out that several customers have complained about their long wait times. Some even had to wait for almost two hours just for their starters!
2. Manchurian
Dishes: Dim Sum, WonTon Soup, Spicy Spare Ribs, Garlic Chilli King Prawn, Chicken Cantonese Style, Szechuan Beef, Pork with Black Bean Sauce, Duck Cantonese Style, Hong Kong Sweet and Sour Prawn, Fried King Prawn Dumplings

Pros
- Serves authentic Chinese cuisine with Cantonese specials
- Has set dinners
- Has a banquet option
- Famous for their Garlic Chilli King Prawn, Chicken with Ginger and Spring Onion, and Chilli Beef
Cons
- Issues with food
- Venue not as clean as we would have liked
We think Manchurian is also another go-to Chinese restaurant in Aberdeen. They serve authentic Chinese cuisine with Cantonese specials – Cantonese cuisine focuses on fresh vegetables and meat with sweet sauces.
For those looking to save some quid, you can try their Set Dinners and choose from three options. Their prices range from £24.50-£28.50, and each set has at least three dishes with your choice of rice or noodles.
They also have an Ultimate Banquet Option, which includes their more expensive dishes such as their Aromatic Duck and Steamed Seabass. It has a total of 7 dishes with rice or noodles and is priced at £30.50.
We had their dim sum, and we thought it was so amazing. It was probably the best dim sum we’ve ever tried in the UK – and that’s no small thing!
Another dish we highly recommend is their Garlic Chilli King Prawn. We could tell the prawns were quite fresh, and it was very juicy and spicy – just the way we like them.
We also loved their Chicken with Ginger and Spring Onion, which was the perfect comfort food. Also, their Chilli Beef was a stunning dish – it had the perfect balance of sweetness and spiciness.
Sadly, we did not like their Duck with Cashew Nuts because it was a tad rubbery and bland.
Also, their restaurant was a bit dirty when we arrived. We hope they can be more meticulous in cleaning their floors and tables.
3. Golden Palace
Dishes: Chicken Satay Skewers, Tom Yum Kong Soup, Sweet and Sour Ribs, Lemon Chicken, Beef with Mushroom, Honey Chilli King Prawn, Panang Duck, Vegetable Curry, Sweet and Sour Chicken Cantonese Style, Chicken Chow Mein, Pad Thai Box

Pros
- Open all week
- Competitively-priced
- Known for their Duck with Beansprouts in BBQ Sauce
- Great Young Chow Fried Rice, Chicken with Pineapple, and Golden Palace Grilled Sea Bass
- Large portions
Cons
- Long wait times
- Order mix-ups
Golden Palace is another solid Chinese restaurant to help you satisfy those Chinese food cravings. They are open all week, which is great for those with busy schedules.
Aside from this, they are also competitively-priced. For instance, their Whole Crispy Aromatic Duck is priced at £27.80 while this is being sold at around £30-£35 in other Chinese restaurants.
We tried their Duck with Beansprouts in BBQ Sauce, and it was perfect. The beansprouts complemented the crispiness of the duck and the BBQ sauce added to its complexity.
We also became huge fans of their Young Chow Fried Rice. We don’t know what their secret sauce is – all we know is that their fried rice is a lot tastier than the rice in other restaurants!
Other great dishes that we recommend are their sweet and savoury Chicken with Pineapple and their amazingly tender and fresh Golden Palace Grilled Sea Bass.
Not only did their dishes taste amazing, their portions were huge as well. We even got to take some of our food home, which we felt provided us with great value for our money.
Since their restaurant is hugely popular, do expect slightly longer wait times. For instance, we waited for almost 40 minutes before receiving our first orders.
There were also some minor food mix-ups. We were given the wrong dish twice before getting it right, but they were so nice about it that we didn’t mind all that much.
4. Taste of Hong Kong
Dishes: Deep Fried Homemade Wonton, Pan Fried Homemade Dumpling, Homemade Wonton Soup, Bone-In Roast Duck, BBQ Pork, Beef Brisket, Baked Coconut Chicken in Macanese Style, Fried Udon with King Prawns in Belacan Sauce

Pros
- Serves authentic Hong Kong and Asian cuisine
- Well-lit, approachable diner
- Has vegan and gluten-free options
- Can customise your meal
- Great BBQ Pork and Beef Lo Mein, Salt and Pepper Chicken Strips, and Homemade Dumplings
Cons
- Some food taste issues
- Closed on Sundays
For those who love authentic Hong Kong and Asian cuisine, Taste of Hong Kong would be right up your alley. Hong Kong cuisine is known for its delightful mix of Cantonese and Western-style cooking.
We like their well-lit and approachable diner. We would classify it as “fast food chic” due to its fast food-like green and white seating and elegant brick walls.
One thing that sets them apart is their vegan and gluten-free (GF) options which not all Chinese restaurants have. A popular vegan choice is their Vegetable Spring Roll, while their bestselling GF dish is their Singapore Rice Noodles.
Another unique thing they offer is their customisable meals. Customers can pick a sauce of their choice, a meat or vegetable, and they can even add rice chips or noodles.
We didn’t really feel like coming up with new combinations, so we just ordered their BBQ Pork, Beef Lo Mein, Salt and Pepper Chicken Strips, Homemade Dumplings, Bone-in Roast Duck, and Deep Fried Homemade Wonton.
Their BBQ was out of this world, as was their beef dish. Their chicken strips were so tasty, and their dumplings became one of our favourites right away.
Sadly, we didn’t like their Bone-in Roast Duck since we thought it was a bit too salty. Also, their Homemade Wonton had a weird taste which we cannot pinpoint.
Do note that they are closed on Sundays, so those craving for Chinese on this day would need to go elsewhere.
5. New Golden Bamboo

Pros
- Nice and friendly staff
- Has set menus for every budget
- Very competitively priced
- Delicious Crispy Aromatic Duck and Vegetable Curry
- Also known for their Honey Chilli Chicken
Cons
- Minor issues with taste and flavour
- Small portions
New Golden Bamboo is another great Aberdeen-based restaurant if you are yearning for delicious Chinese food. We like the slightly worn-out vibe of this place, making it look like an authentic, rundown joint in China.
First off, we loved their friendly staff. They were so lovely and nice, and they made us feel really welcome.
Like the other restaurants we went to, they also offer set menus. However, what makes theirs unique is that they have a wide range of menus to fit every budget – for instance, they have sets priced from £10.20 to £35.
Compared to the other places we went to, they were also very competitively priced. Their Schezuan beef costs only £5.70 while this is priced at £8 and above elsewhere.
We had their Crispy Aromatic Duck, and we highly recommend this dish. While all Chinese restaurants offer this, not all of them deliver in terms of quality.
We also tried their Vegetable Curry, and we loved it. It was a very homey dish – deep, flavorful, and very satisfying.
Another winner they had was their Honey Chilli Chicken. It was sweet and spicy without being overwhelming, and the chicken was very tender to boot.
Unfortunately, their Chicken Satay was rubbery, and we felt their Spring Rolls were not as fresh as we would have liked.
We also noticed their slightly smaller portions compared to the portions in other restaurants.
