Edinburgh’s 3 Best App Developers
How we picked
Service quality
We eyed developers that were patient and detail-oriented, ensuring that each step of the process was done with accuracy, from the initial development until the app is hosted.
Development process
To minimize errors and delays, we looked at each firm’s development process, testing methods, design strategies, and security measures among others.
Developer’s skills
Taking into consideration their capabilities, we eyed firms that could easily produce apps of different types, complexities, and operating systems.
Customer service
Developing an app takes a lot of going back and forth between the developers and the client. So, to ensure smooth communication, we chose firms that are known to have great relationships with their clients.

Pros

- Uses the React Native Javascript framework
- Maintains apps even after launching
- Certified Agile Teams
Cons
- No estimated prices provided for services
What we like most about GearedApp is that developing mobile apps is one of their specialties. To us, this is a significant and relevant expertise, as many brands are foreseeing that well-executed apps are becoming a key channel for staying in the consumer’s consciousness.
Team-wise, we appreciate that they’re mid-sized. This ensures that clients won’t have to worry about delays since they have enough manpower for the job.
They’ve been trusted by over 150 clients across more than 10 industries. We think this makes them palatable for virtually any client looking to either make an app from scratch or revamp an existing one.
It’s worth highlighting that their apps are made using React Native, which means that their apps are seamlessly accessible across iOS and Android platforms.
We find that this saves clients a lot of unnecessary stress since this is easier to maintain, considering that it’s optimised for mobile devices. To boot, they also offer ongoing servicing and maintenance after your app’s been launched.
As for their development process, we like that they have the overview clearly laid out. It’s also detailed enough that clients are aware of what’s expected of all parties.
That said, we also have to give it to them for their client-centred approach. We hear that their developers painstakingly go back and forth to ensure that clients’ needs are met.
For those curious to see what their past work looks like, we definitely suggest browsing through their case study. We find that this helps clients identify features that they’d like to see in their own app.
We just weren’t too pleased that there wasn’t a pricing matrix up on their website. We recommend that you schedule a call with them to discuss the details of your requirements, for them to be able to give you a justified quote on the project.

Pros
- Full-stack developer (front-end + back-end) with graphic design & UX skills
- 10+ years of industry experience
- Maintains apps even after launching
- Software consultant
Cons
- One-man team
- No estimated prices provided for services
What we found the most impressive about Sean Wilson, Web & Mobile App Developer is that Wilson himself runs this firm completely on his own. From answering potential client inquiries to software development, he is at the forefront of everything.
Considering that app development is a tedious process, we were initially iffy about the fact that this company is essentially a one-man team.
It was Wilson’s 10 years of technical experience and numerous client endorsements that eventually put us at ease.
While we’d rather not bore you with the technical jargon, it’s worth noting that he is a full-stack developer (front-end + back-end) with graphic design & UX skills. To us, this offers assurance that he can make apps that aren’t just functional but are aesthetically-informed, too.
He’s capable of integrating safe payment features, multilingual translations, interactive infographics, and animations, among others.
Aside from being a software engineer, he’s also a consultant. We find that this is perfect for clients who only need expert insights or limited involvement in their projects.
After launching, clients can also expect exceptional support afterward. We appreciate this as it ensures that clients’ apps remain functional, optimised, and up-to-date.
Clients whom we’ve gotten ahold of praised Wilson’s efficiency in producing high-quality apps within a short time frame and limited budget. This shows us that Wilson’s practical solutions and creativity aren’t limited by constraints.
Speaking of budget, we were a tad disappointed that there wasn’t a pricing matrix available on his website. We think this could have given potential clients a better idea of how much he’s charging for his services.
On a brighter note, clients can get in touch with him and work towards an agreeable quote via the enquiry form on his website. Clients can also expect a speedy reply as Wilson claims to respond within 1 working day.
