5 Best Pet Shops in Glasgow

  • Selection – We began by evaluating each pet shop based on the quality and range of their pet products.
  • Shop Staff – We evaluated the staff based on their responsiveness, product knowledge, and approachability.
  • Experience – We also checked each shop’s years of industry experience and any distinctions or recognitions they may have received. In light of this, we chose shops that have been operating for at least 5 years.

In the name of spoiling my pets, I scoured Glasgow to find the best pet shops in the city. I hope my handy list helps you indulge your pets with the finest items, giving them the royal treatment they deserve.

Pros

  • Open all week
  • 26 years of experience
  • Award-winning shop
  • Team of knowledgeable experts
  • Wide selection of top-branded pet supplies
  • Offers a holiday boarding service

Cons

  • A bit disorganised and messy
  • Some unhelpful staff members

Creature Comforts, Scotland’s largest independent family-run pet retailer, is open all week. This’ll make it easy for you to find time to visit and get everything you need for your furry, feathery, or scaly friends.

Having been around since 1997, Creature Comforts has earned some good recognition, which we appreciate. For instance, they won several awards including 2021 UK Best Independent Retailer at the Pet Industry Federation Awards.

I love that they have a wide selection of top-branded cages, accessories, foods, and bedding, ensuring that all my pets’ needs are met in one place. Additionally, their home delivery service is a real convenience for customers in the Glasgow area.

What sets them apart from other pet shops is their holiday boarding service, catering to birds, small animals, and reptiles. I made a mental note of this as I’m due to go on holiday soon!

On the downside, I noticed that the shop was a bit disorganised and messy. It was a good thing I didn’t bring my pets with me, as I would have liked the place to be less cluttered and more pet- (and people!)-friendly.

Additionally, a staff member told me to get a small birdcage for my cockatiel, only to be told by another shop attendant that the cage was the wrong size. This conflicting information was confusing and kind of a letdown.

Pros

  • Over 12 years of experience
  • Wide range of reptile equipment and accessories
  • Has over 20 fish tanks
  • Carries leading brands as well as all-natural brands with no additives
  • Has their own range of hypo-allergenic dry food
  • Free car parking

Cons

  • Has an unpleasant odour and untidy interior
  • Inattentive staff

Bishopbriggs Pet & Aquatic Centre is a pet shop that has been serving pet lovers in Glasgow for over 12 years.

It seems this is the place to go for reptile enthusiasts. They offer an extensive array of equipment and accessories for bearded dragons, water dragons, leopard geckos, chameleons, snakes, spiders, and more!

The shop also boasts over 20 fish tanks, carrying a wide supply of both coldwater and tropical fish. It’s a paradise for fish lovers seeking options for their aquatic companions.

They stock leading brands like Pucci, Hi-Craft, Ezydog, Ancol, Red Dingo, and Company of Animals. This wide selection made me feel excited since I wouldn’t have to visit several shops to hunt down different things for my fur babies.

They even go the extra mile by offering supplies without any fancy additives, colours, flavours, artificial preservatives, wheat, or soya. As a pet owner, this attention to natural and healthy products made me trust the shop and what they had to offer.

Unlike other pet shops, they have their own range of hypo-allergenic dry food. Those like me who want to maintain the healthy coats of their pets would benefit from these options that are enriched with Omega 3 & 6 fatty acids, zinc, and biotin.

Sadly, during my visit, I noticed that the shop was somewhat untidy. It also had an unpleasant smell, which dampened my enthusiasm for being there.

Furthermore, a staff member seemed to ignore me completely, despite clearly seeing me; I felt a little taken aback to be quite honest. It’s a good thing the attendant who eventually helped me made up for it by being very friendly.

Pros

  • Free weight check service
  • Carries top brands
  • Offers pet advice
  • Free click and collect service
  • In-house grooming services
  • Offers veterinary practices

Cons

  • Unhelpful and disinterested store staff
  • Reports of abrupt online order cancellations

With my two puppies in tow, I decided to visit Pets at Home. I think this is a pet shop worth considering when deciding on where to shop for your furry friends.

The store carries a wide range of top brands, including Hill’s, Lily’s Kitchen, Royal Canin, and Barking Heads. It’s very convenient for me to have access to various premium-quality products, all under one roof.

I like that they offered me a convenient and free pet weight check service. This allowed me to monitor my pets’ health without any additional cost.

They even gave me valuable pet advice, such as selecting the right food, water testing to check my fish tank safety at home, and offering puppy socialisation and training classes. These helped me in making informed decisions for my pets’ care.

Some customers will also appreciate the convenience of their free click and collect service, with orders ready in as little as one hour. For those who prefer home delivery, they provide free shipping for orders over £45.

I was also pleasantly surprised to learn that they offer in-house dog grooming services. It’s great that I can access all these pet products and services just from one shop!

Unlike other shops, they offer comprehensive veterinary care, from vaccinations to digital x-rays and operating theatres. I do appreciate this integrated approach, making pet care more accessible.

However, during my visit, I encountered unhelpful and disinterested store staff, who gave me the side-eye and answered my questions in a bored tone. This may be an isolated incident, but it did dim my excitement somewhat.

There have also been reports of abrupt online order cancellations, which can be frustrating for customers.

Pros

  • Family-run shop
  • Wide range of in-store and online pet products
  • Also carries a selection of animals and birds
  • Offers gift cards
  • Offers medicine and other essentials

Cons

  • Closed on Sundays
  • Separate delivery charge for large sacks

Fur’n’Feathers is a pet shop run by a fantastic couple who are incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely interested in their customers. In fact, speaking with them was one of the highlights of my visit because I could tell they really love animals.

I do appreciate their wide range of products, including parrot food and accessories, reptile supplies, dog essentials, and more. Products are also available for online purchase through their website.

They have a diverse selection of animals and birds – many of which come from local breeders, which is admirable. Hand-reared birds and parrots are sent to their new homes after weaning, saving customers the hassle.

If you have pet-loving friends like me, you can also purchase gift cards, ranging from £10.00 to a maximum of £500.00. This makes gift-giving a breeze for any pet lover.

The shop’s inventory extends beyond pet food, even offering essential items like pet medicine, pet beds, scratching posts, and vivariums.

However, it’s worth noting that Fur’n’Feathers is closed on Sundays, which could be an inconvenience for pet owners seeking weekend shopping options.

I was also disappointed to learn that large sacks of pet products – dog food or cat litter – can only be ordered one at a time, each with a separate delivery charge – oof! Sorry, no hoarding here.

Pros

  • Over 20 years of experience
  • Animal nutrition specialists
  • Wide selection of premium brands
  • Has a Loyalty Card program
  • Extensive delivery coverage
  • Free delivery for orders over £15

Cons

  • Closed on Sundays
  • More limited range of pets

Discount Pet Supplies is a well-established pet shop that has been serving pet owners for over 20 years. As self-proclaimed pet nutrition specialists, they pride themselves on being able to provide specialised advice.

One of the first things I noticed was their wide selection of premium brands such as Royal Canin, Lily’s Kitchen, Arden Grange, and Applaws. I was also offered a Loyalty Card, which is a great incentive for regular customers.

I appreciate their extensive delivery coverage, serving not just in Glasgow but all of Scotland and other parts of the United Kingdom. This makes it convenient for pet owners from various regions to access their products and services.

On the downside, the store is closed on Sundays, which might be inconvenient for those who are only free during weekends.

Another limitation I noticed is that Discount Pet Supplies caters to a more limited range of pets compared to other pet shops. Those with exotic or less common pets might find a more extensive selection elsewhere.
