The Top 5 Personal Trainers in Edinburgh Homepage

The Top 11 Personal Trainers in Edinburgh

How we picked

Background

We chose personal trainers with a reputable background (training and education) to ensure that they know how to properly train their clients to achieve their fitness goals.

Training approach

We eyed trainers that had feasible and sustainable training methods and workout regimens.

Accessibility

We based this on the ease of contacting them, scheduling sessions, and location accessibility.

Attitude

Since you’ll be spending a lot of time with them, we chose trainers that were professional, motivational, and encouraging.

Client satisfaction

We got in touch with several of their past clients to ask about their experience.

Pros

  • Studied HND Fitness Health and Exercise
  • Completed an MSc in Sports Performance Enhancement
  • Has experience working with people with disabilities
  • Takes a science-based approach to training
  • Open daily and until late
  • Offers complimentary initial consultations
  • Competitive rates (both virtual and in-person)
  • Virtual facility tour available
  • Has a bespoke coaching app

Cons

  • Can get a bit packed, especially during peak hours
  • Doesn’t offer free trial sessions

What we like most about Jamie is his approach to fitness, which is to tackle it with science. In our opinion, this helps clients gain a better understanding of their bodies and health through data-backed information.

Jamie studied HND Fitness Health and Exercise and completed an MSc in Sports Performance Enhancement. So, he has the appropriate educational background to support his training methods.

Apart from being book-smart, Jamie also has practised at several centres. The most notable was the Portobello Swim Centre, where he gained experience working with people with disabilities.

We definitely suggest availing of their free initial consultation. This way, you can speak directly to Jamie to discuss your fitness goals and how he can help you achieve them.

As for their fees, we find them competitively priced at £30 for physical sessions and £15 for online sessions. To boot, they’re open daily and until late, so you can train at your most convenient time.

However, we were disappointed that they don’t offer free trial sessions. We think this could give interested clients a better idea of what’s in store.

Did we mention that you can also virtually tour their facilities? We think this is a convenient way to explore their centre without leaving the comforts of your home.

We were also impressed that they have a bespoke coaching app full of resources to keep you accountable outside your sessions. These include workout plans, nutrition programs, and tracking tools.

All said, we were a tad concerned that they can get a bit packed, especially during peak hours.

2. Mike Heatlie – Mike Heatlie Personal Training

Pros

  • Has been a personal trainer for 30 years
  • Holds 4 degrees related to sports, exercise, strength, conditioning, and public health
  • Holds several certificates
  • Free initial consultation
  • Complimentary facility tour
  • Offer 2-person personal training
  • Provides 24/7 support

Cons

  • Closed on weekends
  • Doesn’t offer evening sessions
  • Fee is a tad pricey for one person training
  • No free trial sessions

If extensive experience is a priority for you, then Mike Heatlie is a trainer you should definitely consider. He’s been a personal trainer since 1989 and has worked in the fitness industry since 1989.

On top of that, he has impressive credentials. He holds several certificates and 4 degrees in sports, exercise, strength, conditioning, and public health.

So, rest assured that he has a substantial theoretical and experiential background to back up his training and workout regimens.

However, we have to warn you that his style is quite intense, so Heatlie may not be the best choice for those who’d like to take things slow. But if you’re up for the challenge, Heatlie has a programme to help you lose 10 lbs in just 4 weeks.

With a 30-year-long career running, he’s seen his fair share of clients from all walks of life, even celebrities. Many who have trained with Heatlie say that his enthusiasm for fitness is contagious.

It’s great that free consultations are available. You can simply pop in for a 30-minute chat to discuss your fitness goals whilst Heatlie tours you around their facility.

Unfortunately, they’re only open on weekdays and don’t offer evening sessions. In our opinion, this is quite limiting, especially for clients who are only available after work hours.

Even so, it’s great that he offers 24/7 support, so clients can reach him anytime for concerns or queries.

As for his fees, we did find it a tad expensive at £45 for a single 60-minute session. However, clients can opt for a 1- or 2-person personal training, which is great for those who’d like to bring a workout buddy.

His 10-session package comes at a discounted rate of £400. You can even split the cost into two instalments of £200.

However, it was a bit of a letdown that they don’t offer free trial sessions. We think this is a great way to see whether Heatlie’s approach best fits interested clients.

Pros

  • Has a degree in Physiotherapy
  • Good option for clients with illness, disability, and injury
  • Access to a certified nutritionist
  • Offers small group and 1-2-1 personal training
  • Ladies-only
  • 24/7 access to coach
  • Evening sessions available on weekdays

Cons

  • Rates not available on website
  • Closes early on Saturdays
  • Free trial session not offered

With a degree in BSc in Sports Science, Claire Adams spent the early years of her career working as a personal trainer for the corporate sector. She then attained a degree in Physiotherapy from Queen Margaret University.

Adams is well-known for curating exercise and rehabilitation plans to help restore movement. Given this background, we think she’s an excellent fit for clients with illness, disability, and injury.

Apart from that, clients will also be given access to a certified nutritionist. In our opinion, her holistic approach to attaining fitness goals makes the journey more feasible.

Having said that, we appreciate that she offers small group and 1-2-1 personal training options. To boot, clients will also be given access to monthly workshops on pilates, yoga, and more.

We also appreciate that clients will receive 24/7 access to Adams for any queries. They’ll also be introduced to a small support group for encouragement and accountability.

However, keep in mind that Adams only offers her services to women. We think this helps many ladies feel more at ease when working out.

It’s also worth mentioning that she offers evening sessions on weekdays up to 9:30 PM. Unfortunately, she closes a tad earlier on Saturdays.

We were also disappointed that her rates aren’t up on her website. We think this could have given interested clients a better idea of the cost of her services.

She also doesn’t offer free trial services, which could help interested clients see if they like her style of coaching.

Pros

  • Has a BSc Degree in Applied Sports Science
  • Ideal for individuals looking to reduce their fat mass and grow lean muscle
  • Offers 1-2-1, group, and block sessions
  • Offers discounts for Edinburgh University students and employees of NHS and Rockstar
  • Multiple payment options accepted
  • Offers online/remote training
  • Has a bespoke coaching app

Cons

  • Irregular business hours
  • Fees not available on website
  • Closed on weekends
  • No free trial

For Martin, his fitness journey started off as a patient but blossomed into a profession. His personal style is using a theoretical approach that’s tailored to your physique and goals.

Aside from a BSc Degree in Applied Sports Science from Edinburgh University, Martin has several other qualifications, which allow him to instruct strength training, nutritional planning, and exercise prescription for rehabilitation, among others.

We believe Martin is a stellar choice for those looking to reduce their fat mass and grow lean muscle. For fitness junkies, Martin is an excellent option if you want to take conditioning to the next level.

Aside from 1-2-1 sessions, he also offers block and group sessions for those who want to train with others. However, we weren’t so pleased that their pricing information isn’t readily available on their website.

On the flip side, they offer discounts to students from Edinburgh University and employees of NHS and Rockstar. Apart from that, they accept payments through cash, cheque, or bank transfer for added convenience.

It’s also quite a bummer that they’re not operational on weekends. Unlike others, they don’t offer free trial sessions either.

Aside from that, their irregular business hours are a bit confusing, too, so make sure to double-check before making an appointment.

Here’s some good news, though: they offer online/remote training, which is great for those who can’t commit to attending in person.

To boot, they also have a bespoke coaching app where clients have access to a variety of fitness and nutritional resources.

  • Has 16 years of experience as a personal trainer
  • Has qualifications in aerobics and aqua aerobics and several accreditations
  • Has completed courses related to nutrition and sports supplementation
  • Free consultation
  • Ideal for individuals looking to train outside of the gym
  • Well-known for sincerity towards helping clients

Cons

  • Only available from Mondays through Thursdays
  • Training fees not available on website

What’s unique about Tracy is that she’s a personal trainer with 16 years of experience teaching individuals how to get great results with minimal equipment.

On top of several accreditations, she has qualifications in aerobics and aqua aerobics. Hence, her routines put emphasis on mindfulness and conditioning.

Apart from that, she’s also completed courses related to nutrition and sports supplementation. In our opinion, her holistic approach ensures that her clients feel a positive change from the inside out.

To boot, you don’t even have to be at the gym to follow her workout regimen. Hence, she’s the ideal choice for those looking to train outdoors or online.

If you’re interested in learning more about her style, we encourage you to avail of her free consultation. This way, she can answer any lingering questions and discuss fees, as this isn’t readily accessible on her site.

Unfortunately, we do find her schedule a bit inconvenient as she’s only available from Mondays through Thursdays. Though in our experience, this hasn’t been much of an issue as Tracy does her best to squeeze in interested clients.

Based on our experience, Tracy’s sincerity in helping her clients achieve their goals is one of the main reasons many of her clients remain extra-motivated to attain their fitness goals.

Pros

Cons

  • Fees are not seen on their website

Steph Park is the head coach at Spark Your Transformation Coach. What makes Spark stand out from its competitors is how they offer their packages strictly online.

This type of services are perfect for those who have a not so flexible schedule. They will still be closely monitored through Spark’s application to help them transform to their full potential!

Another great factor about this is that clients can freely access Steph’s live workouts and also see their personalized training program.

Additionally, we prefer Spark over others because what they do is not offer a diet but a new way to live, whilst enjoying food totally guilt free.

The only catch here is that they only have a few packages. So if you are looking for something more specific, they may not be for you.

Pros

  • Experienced personal trainer
  • Trainings include nutrition coaching
  • Gym situated in situated in the heart of Edinburgh

Cons

  • Operating hours unavailable

Alex of AS Personal Training has been passionate about fitness since he was young, so he decided to study sports coaching for 3 years and then fitness, health and exercise.

He also studied for his level 3 personal training to be able to help people with their fitness journey one-on-one.

This is what we like about him—his one-one-one personal training. We think this is perfect for those who aren’t very comfortable with group settings or those who just want their trainers to be focused on them for better progress.

No matter the goal of his client, he can help with achieving them. He’s been in the fitness industry since 2014 and has delivered thousands of personal training sessions, so we think he has enough experience and has somewhat mastered this.

We think he’s also perfect for busy individuals who still want to take care of their health. He’s also helped so many of such people achieve fat loss and body transformations through resistance training and proper nutrition.

We like that his approach is holistic and he doesn’t solely focus on the physical aspects. We like that he makes sure to include nutrition, which we’ve all been told is equally important.

He’ll tailor everything to you, check-in on you, provide you access to exercise videos and more. We highly recommend!

Pros

  • Female personal trainers
  • Personal training classes available
  • Group classes offered
  • Has other courses and workshops

Cons

  • Don’t run group classes on Sundays

If you’re a woman in search of a personal trainer to help you become the strongest, fittest, and most confident you, we highly recommend fitandhappy.

Their team of female personal trainers and nutrition coaches will provide you with the support, accountability, and expert coaching necessary to transform your fitness and wellbeing.

We love the wide range of options they offer because there’s something for everyone.

There are personal training classes for those who like a more personalised program. These classes also have many inclusions like sleep and stress management, mindset transformation, and habit tracking above nutrition and the training itself.

To add, you also receive access to video-on-demand workouts, the fitandhappy App, and we think best of all is you’ll have fun and laughter along the way because they make sure to keep things light-hearted and fun.

Distance isn’t a problem nor an excuse because they also have online personal training for those who live far away.

For those who thrive in group settings, we think you’ll enjoy their various group classes, such as their Bootcamp, L.I.F.E., and they even have private sessions and ones for moms.

Their other courses and workshops like Running Group and Self Defence Workshops are also our favourites.

We can wholeheartedly say that their classes are incredibly fun and they actually work.

They’re closed on Sundays though, so this may be a downside to those who are mostly free on weekends.

Overall, we highly recommend!

The Mental Health Personal Trainer behind The Well-Being PT is no other than Chris Stone. He works with people who want to improve their mental well-being through regular physical activity and self-help strategies.

In comparison to other trainers, his coaching services are built around uniquely per client. With this, clients will be able to have more control of their physical health, alongside with their mental well-being.

We prefer them over others because their sessions are a great mix of fun and challenge. In just a few weeks, you will find yourself loving to workout everyday.

Another factor why we like them is Chris’ way of asking his clients to reflect. With the help of regular reflection, his clients will be given a chance to consider taking a different solution to overcome barriers in their lives.

Even though their base rate is not available on their website, they compensate on this by giving out a free estimation when you contact them.

Our experience with Luke Bremner Fitness left us both inspired and astounded. Their services are a harmonious blend of expertise and dedication. From the moment we walked through their doors, it was evident that we had embarked on a transformative fitness journey.

Efficiency is the lifeblood of any reputable personal trainer, and in this regard, Luke Bremner Fitness reigns supreme. Our sessions were orchestrated with military precision. Each minute was maximized to ensure we squeezed every drop of potential from our workout. It was a symphony of sweat, determination, and a hint of magic.

Quality, often an elusive trait in the fitness world, was not a concern with Luke Bremner Fitness. Their trainers are the Michelangelos of sculpting the human body. We felt as if we were clay in the hands of a master, being molded into a masterpiece of strength and vitality. It was like having a personal fitness oracle at our disposal.

But what about the dreaded cost? The investment we made in our health and well-being with Luke Bremner Fitness was worth every shiny penny.

Pros

  • Personalised workout programme
  • Programmes ensure progress and sustainability

Cons

  • Closed on Saturdays

Busy professionals looking to stay consistent with workouts and their overall health will find what CA Personal Trainer can offer very valuable.

A lot of us struggle with attaining progress and sustaining our habits, but we like that CA Personal Trainer has helped us with this.

We find that they can actually help us progress whenever we exercise—and it’s exercise we actually enjoy!

We also struggle with sustaining healthy eating, especially with our work and social life. We’re just glad that they’re able to help us with such.

We think it’s great that their Strong Life Method is composed of personalised workout programmes. It’s based on the client’s lifestyle and preferred training times.

This program is also delivered entirely online so it’s very flexible to each individual’s schedule—which we love!

Of course, the nutritional aspect of the programme is also personalised. No one has to worry about giving up their favourite foods because they tailor the regimen in such a way that you won’t have to sacrifice anything.

If you don’t think you can commit to this programme just yet, they have other services available that we think will be a great fit for you and your lifestyle.

We like that their 1-1 services guarantee satisfaction so if you’re not happy with your results, you get to take your money back.

We think they’re great overall, but we did notice a lack of feedback from other clients available. We understand how difficult it is to trust trainers so it would be nice to see more feedback from a larger variety of clients.
