Pros
- Well-established, family-run business for almost 45 years
- Offers free parking
- Spacious and well-lit showroom
- Provides disposal and assembly services
- Offers special sizes
- Offers a minimum one-year guarantee
- Has a price-match promise
Cons
- Designer brands are a bit pricey
- Some staff members were inattentive
The Bed Shop in Edinburgh is a well-established, family-run business that has been serving the local community for almost 45 years, which we think is absolutely splendid.
We also think it’s smashing that they offer free parking, making it easy and convenient to shop there.
Their attendant told us that the shop has recently undergone renovations, and we have to say, the new showroom is an absolute delight to walk around. It’s quite spacious and well-lit, which is a real treat for the eyes.
We’ve also learned about the variety of services they offer to enhance your shopping experience.
First, they’ll chuck out your old bed or mattress for a nominal fee. This is a hassle-free option for customers who can’t do it themselves.
They also offer an assembly service. This means that whether you buy a divan or a frame, they’ll put it together for you.
Unlike other shops, they also sell special sizes. Additionally, every mattress and bed comes with a minimum one-year guarantee, which gives you peace of mind when making a purchase.
The store offers a price-match promise, but there are certain criteria that customers must meet to qualify for it. So, do give the website’s details a good read.
Unfortunately, we noticed that their designer brands can be quite pricey, with king-sized mattress prices going up to £2500.
Also, we noticed that some of their other staff members were inattentive and looked bored when we were talking to them. It was a bit of a let-down, given the store’s reputation and long-standing history.

Pros
- Provides disabled access and parking
- Friendly and helpful attendants
- Free deliveries on all orders
- Has a 100-Night Comfort Guarantee
- Offers finance options and a Bedcover Service Plan
- Offers student discounts
Cons
- Rude customer service over the phone
- Very expensive mattresses
We also swung by Dreams in Edinburgh, a well-known furniture emporium that offers an array of bed-related goods and services.
Right off the bat, we noticed that they provide disabled access and parking, making it easier for customers who have mobility issues.
Then, we chatted a bit with the friendly attendant and learned that they offer free deliveries on all orders. This is a cracking bonus for those who lack their own transport.
We really appreciate their 100-Night Comfort Guarantee – if you’re not feeling your mattress after 30 to 100 days, you can swap it. This is quite generous, as it can take a while to get used to a new mattress or bed.
Unlike other stores, they offer finance options, – up to 20 months of interest-free credit at 0% APR on orders over £500. This is a useful option for those who want to spread the cost of their purchase over time.
Moreover, their Bedcover Service Plan is quite impressive, offering accidental cosmetic damage cover for five years. This is a fantastic add-on for those who want to ensure their investment is well-protected.
For students, they offer a discount, which we feel is a marvellous perk. It’s always great to see companies looking out for the student population.
Whilst the staff we spoke to in the shop were a friendly and helpful bunch, we heard reports of the customer service line being rude.
Their mattresses can also be quite expensive. For example, a king-sized Country Living Hamsterley Mattress will set you back a whopping £4499.
3. Leith Bed Centre

Pros
- Has been around for 40 years
- Offers free delivery in Edinburgh for orders over £150
- Has a cheap disposal service
- Also offers assembly services
- Offers up to a 2-year manufacturer guarantee for some mattresses
Cons
- Shop is a bit tiny
- Lower-priced mattresses not quite comfy
We also visited the Leith Bed Centre in Edinburgh, another solid mattress shop in Edinburgh. First things first, this shop has been around for a whopping 40 years, so it’s safe to say they know their stuff when it comes to beds and mattresses.
We were also chuffed that they offer free delivery in Edinburgh for orders over £150. That’s quite a deal, especially for those who are looking to buy a larger item like a mattress.
Speaking of mattresses, they’re competitively priced, ranging from £200 to £1500 for a king-sized one. We like that there’s something for every budget.
Another impressive feature is their disposal service. For only £19.50, they’ll dispose of your old mattress, which is much cheaper than the disposal services offered at other shops that can range from £40-£50.
Plus, they also offer assembly services, which can be a real lifesaver for those who are not too handy with tools.
When it comes to warranties, they offer up to a 2-year manufacturer guarantee for some mattresses, which offers great peace of mind.
On the other hand, we noticed that the shop itself is a bit on the smaller side compared to other places we’ve been to. It might be hard to walk about especially if it’s busy.
Additionally, we found that the lower-priced mattresses, although competitively priced, did not provide the level of comfort that we were looking for. That’s always a trade-off when it comes to price versus quality.

Pros
- Almost 70 years of heritage
- Offers a 0% interest-free credit
- Also offers a 5-year guarantee
- Has sleepPRO technology
- Has disabled access and free parking
- Plans to be a net zero business by 2040
- Has a 40 Night Comfort Guarantee
Cons
- Pricey
- Long turnaround for deliveries
Bensons for Beds is a long-standing player in the bed industry with almost 70 years of heritage. So, naturally, we had to check them out.
One of their ace features is their 0% interest-free credit, which requires a minimum spend of £300. We think it’s a proper lifesaver for those on a budget.
Also, their 5-year guarantee means that you can be confident that your purchase is protected for a good amount of time. Customers can relax knowing that they’re covered.
We also got the lowdown on their sleepPRO technology from a rather chatty shopkeeper. It uses some fancy-schmancy exclusive technology to scrutinise how you sleep, so you can nab the perfect mattress.
In addition, we commend the store for extending disabled access and free parking to their customers with disabilities. This provides them with a more convenient and comfortable shopping experience.
Another excellent aspect of Bensons for Beds is their plans to be a net zero business by 2040, This indicates that they’re committed to making environmentally conscious decisions.
We’re also excited about their 40 Night Comfort Guarantee, which permits customers to swap their bed for a new one if it doesn’t quite hit the spot within five nights.
Nonetheless, they may be considered a tad dear as their king-size mattresses can go up to £3599. For those on a budget, this shop might not be for you.
Also, we’ve spoken to some of their customers, and they mentioned that it took them quite a while to receive their deliveries. Apparently, some folks had to wait up to two months for their items to arrive.

Pros
- Founded in 2001
- Won industry awards
- Free parking and free day of choice delivery option
- Offers two financing options
- Competitively-priced mattresses
- Has a 60 Night Comfort Guarantee
Cons
- Sales staff came across as rude and uninterested
- Reports of disorganised delivery service
Archers Sleepcentre is a well-established store, having been founded in 2001. We popped in since we reckon they’re one of the finest mattress shops in Edinburgh.
We’re quite thrilled with the recognition they’ve received for their exceptional customer service. They bagged the National Bed Federation Award for Best E-tailer in 2014 and National Retailer of the Year in 2017.
We also took advantage of their free parking, which is always a bonus in Edinburgh, where parking can be a nightmare.
Moreover, their free day of choice delivery option is brilliant, as it allows you to choose a day that suits your schedule.
When it comes to financing options, we were offered two main choices. The first option is the Buy Now Pay Later scheme, and the other is their Interest-Free Credit plan.
We appreciate these financing options since they allow customers to purchase a mattress without putting a strain on their budget.
In terms of pricing, we saw their range of competitively-priced king-size mattresses ranging from £100 to £2700. This makes it easy to find a mattress that fits your budget.
Furthermore, they provide a 60 Night Comfort Guarantee, where you can exchange your mattress for an alternative if it doesn’t quite hit the spot.
However, our experience with Archers Sleepcentre was not entirely positive. Some of the sales staff came across as rude and uninterested in helping us.
Additionally, we heard reports of their delivery service being quite disorganised, with several instances of late deliveries and even items being sent to the wrong address.
