5 Best Indian Restaurants in Dundee
How We Picked
Menu
An Indian restaurant should have deliciously rich and flavourful food, so we gauged the quality and selection of the dishes available in each restaurant.
Restaurant Staff
Service plays a huge role in delivering a memorable dining experience. Thus, we also checked out the responsiveness and demeanour of the restaurant staff.
Prices
Additionally, we looked at the price range in each Indian restaurant to let you know which ones can provide the best value for your money.
Ambiance
We also assessed the aesthetic of each Indian restaurant to let customers choose which setting they prefer to dine in.

Pros
- Known for their biryani, tandoori, and curry dishes
- Famous for their Chef’s Special Masala
- Has a kid’s menu
- Offers various set meals
- Offers online delivery and gift vouchers
- Has an airconditioned VIP Room
Cons
- VIP Room has a non-refundable deposit
- Opens late at 5PM
- Reports of long wait times
We think Koyla Indian Restaurant is one of the top Indian restaurants in Dundee. They are known for their biryani, tandoori, and curry dishes, so we had high expectations for these dishes before going there.
We tried their Chef’s Special Masala, which is one of their specialities. Aside from the heavenly smell, we also liked how the chargrilled taste of the chicken pairs well with the creamy, spicy sauce.
Their Tandoori Chicken was tasty as well; however, we found their Chicken Bhuna Curry to be a tad too spicy.
We like how they offer a kid’s menu as not all Indian restaurants have this. We also noticed that their set meals seem to be reasonably priced for the amount of food that you’d be getting.
If you do not feel like stepping out, you’d be happy to know that they have an online delivery service. You can also purchase gift vouchers for your friends, family, or co-workers who love Indian cuisine.
We also took a peek at their air conditioned VIP Room. It can comfortably host 12-16 guests, which we think is perfect for special occasions or work events.
However if you do decide to book the VIP Room, there is a non-refundable deposit of £150.
Also, they open quite late, at 5 PM. So, this restaurant is not an option for lunch.
While our food arrived promptly, we did a little digging and found out that some customers have experienced long wait times. Some even had to wait for an hour before being served – so don’t say we didn’t warn you!
2. Rishi’s Indian Aroma

Pros
- Offers authentic South Indian cuisine
- Tastefully elegant and spacious fine dining vibe
- Known for their dosas
- Also famous for their Rishi’s Biryani and Rishi’s Classic Curries
- Has a party menu for groups of 6 or more
- Has a kid’s menu that offers good value for your money
- Has customisable Rishi’s Gift Cards
Cons
- Comparatively pricier
- Slightly bland curries
For authentic South Indian cuisine, Rishi’s Indian Aroma would be your best bet. This Indian restaurant is known for their rich curries, clay oven main dishes, and earthy masala dosas.
Right off the bat, we liked their modern, upscale vibe. The place is very well-lit due to its wall-to-wall windows, but the brightness provides an elegant contrast to the dark ceilings and rough brick walls.
Since they are famous for their masala dosas, we ordered their Family Dosa. This 5-foot dish was definitely a hit – crispy on the outside and very savoury and rich on the inside.
We also ordered Rishi’s Biryani and a couple of Rishi’s Classic Curries – chicken and lamb. The biryani was very aromatic and delicious as expected; however, we found their curries to be a bit bland.
We also noticed that they also have a party menu for groups of 6 or more. The prices seem reasonable: two courses with sides would only set you back £20.45 while three courses would cost £22.45.
If you know someone who would enjoy a delicious masala dosa, then you could treat them to a Rishi’s gift card. This is customisable and valid for 12 months after purchase.
One downside to this place is that they are comparatively pricier. For instance, Rishi’s Biryani costs £14, but we felt that for the same portion and taste, we can get this dish at a lower price point elsewhere.
3. Dil’Se

Pros
- Established in 2003
- Received a 2019 Certificate of Excellence from Tripadvisor
- Charming, laidback place
- Wheelchair-friendly
- Parking nearby with two hours free
- Known for their curries
- Has a huge function suite
Cons
- Pricier than other restaurants
- Some customers experiencing booking issues
Established in 2003, Dil’Se has become one of the well-known Indian restaurants in Dundee. The 2019 Certificate of Excellence that they received from Tripadvisor is proof of this.
From the outside, the restaurant looks quite charming, with its all-white facade, black windows, hanging plants, and huge neon pink restaurant sign.
We also appreciate that they are wheelchair accessible and have a dedicated toilet for the disabled downstairs. There is also a free two-hour parking space nearby, which is convenient for customers.
Since this place is known for their curries, we ordered their authentic Lamb and Chicken curry and their Village curry. We also had their Peshwari Naan, Chicken Royal, and Chicken Pathan.
We were quite disappointed with their curries as we found them to be a tad salty.
However, their Peshwari Naan had that perfect note of sweetness to balance the spiciness of their curries. Their Chicken Royal and Chicken Pathan were also delicious, and we highly recommend these flavourful dishes.
We were curious about their upstairs, and we found out that they have a spacious function suite there that can seat up to 60 people. Do note that the venue also has a bar and a private buffet, and a £100 deposit is required.
Upon comparison, this restaurant does have pricier dishes compared to other Indian restaurants in Dundee.
Also, we spoke to some of their customers, and they told us about the confirmed bookings they had which somehow were cancelled unexpectedly.

Pros
- Operating for over 20 years
- Buffet dining on familiar Indian and European dishes
- Spacious, family-friendly joint
- Delicious Chicken Tikka and Beef Curry
- Famous for their Gulab Jamun dessert
- Also serves vegetarian and vegan options
Cons
- A bit noisy
- Some issues with food quality
Taza has been operating for over 20 years, making them one of the longest-running Indian restaurants in Dundee.
What sets them apart is that instead of the traditional sit-down dining experience, they offer buffet dining on familiar Indian and European dishes. This place is perfect for families or those who love trying out a wide array of food.
The place itself was very spacious – perfect for groups – with its gleaming wood flooring and modern, industrial vibe. It is also very well-lit and situated by the water, which we felt was very calming.
While almost all the dishes were very tasty, what stood out to us were their rich and creamy Chicken Tikka, spicy Beef Curry, and their milk-soaked Gulab Jamun.
We also appreciate their selection of vegetarian and vegan options since not all Indian restaurants have these.
Their buffet dining is available from Mondays to Saturdays, from 12 PM to 4:55 PM. At £15.50 per adult, we think this place provides the best value for your money.
Unfortunately, this place was quite noisy, and we could hardly hear ourselves speak. It’s safe to say that this is not the place for romantic dates or business meetings.
While we didn’t really encounter any issues with their food, we heard some of their customers did. Apparently, they found their pakora and bhajis to be tasteless and their salads to be lacking in freshness.
5. Jahangir Tandoori

Pros
- Established in 1987
- Known as a Balti and Tandoori Restaurant
- Has indoor and outdoor seating
- Offers vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and halal options
- Delicious Punjabi Masala
- Wheelchair-accessible
- Dog-friendly
Cons
- A tad pricey
- Food quality issues
Established in 1987, Jahangir Tandoori has become a staple in the Dundee food scene.
They are primarily known as a Balti and Tandoori restaurant. A balti is a type of curry served in a thin, pressed-steel wok, while a tandoori is a dish made in a traditional clay oven.
The restaurant is very spacious, and we appreciate that they have both indoor and outdoor seating, which not all restaurants have. We are also impressed that they offer vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and halal options.
We came in and had their Punjabi Masala, Haggis Pakora, Garlic Naan, and King Prawn. The Punjabi Masala was very delicious and rich – it was a perfectly balanced tomato-based curry with Punjabi spices that packed a punch.
Their unique Haggis Pakora was also quite tasty. However, we were disappointed with their Garlic Naan since we could hardly taste the garlic, and their prawns were not deveined, which was a bit annoying.
If you are the type who likes cocktails with their curries, then you’d be happy to know that they serve alcohol. They even have a full bar indoors.
We like that the place is wheelchair-accessible. Also, unlike other restaurants, they are dog-friendly as well, so this is a great place to go to for dog lovers.
Comparatively, they do have pricier items than other restaurants, but all-in-all, we could see ourselves coming back here just for the Punjabi Masala alone.
