We went with our first staff tester who chose to visit James Dun’s House, known for their personalised, custom-blended hair colour services. 

First off, we highly appreciate their use of cruelty-free, plant-based products from the eco-brand Aveda. Not only are these products ethical, but they’re also 100% vegan-friendly.

During our consultation, their team of experts took the time to analyse our tester’s hair type, discuss her home-care routine, and address any hair concerns she had.

From what we experienced, James Dun’s House isn’t just a hair salon; it’s a self-care sanctuary. While our staff tester was having her hair done, we indulged in their tranquil wellness rooms, treating ourselves to a relaxing massage and facial. 

For those seeking the ultimate pampering experience, their beauty bar offers everything. From a CND nail lab to luxurious pedicure chairs and even a brow and lash bar, they’re a one-stop shop for beauty.

Afterwards, our tester raved about her vibrant hair colour. They gave her detailed info about the procedure and even recommended some aftercare products.

For aspiring hairdressers, we learned that James Dun’s House even has its own Hair School. It’s the perfect place to learn from industry experts and kickstart a hairdressing career.

Additionally, their prices may be on the higher side, ranging from £40-£90 for a full head all over colour or for a cut and finish, depending on whether you choose a new talent or a top stylist. 

Plus, the nearest parking is at the Bon Accord shopping centre, and charges do apply.

We had the pleasure of experiencing Ellee’s Hair Design for the first time, and let me tell you, it won’t be our last!

We accompanied another staff tester to this hair salon that has been making hair dreams come true since 2009. From their humble beginnings with just two staff members, they’ve grown into a team of over 16 talented individuals.

Lee, the stylist, worked their magic on her hair, colouring and styling it to perfection. She couldn’t help but fall in love with her hair because it was a transformation that left her feeling like a million bucks!

But it wasn’t just Lee who made the visit memorable; the entire staff at Ellee’s Hair Design went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. They were incredibly accommodating, offering plenty of teas, coffees, snacks, and refreshments. 

We also learned that their artistic director, Michelle, has been shortlisted twice in the British Hairdressing Awards. She even made it to the regional finals of the L’Oreal Colour Trophy. 

In terms of pricing, Ellee’s Hair Design is competitively priced, with a cut and finish ranging from £58 to £68.

If you’re in the mood for some extra pampering, they also offer a range of additional treatments, including eye treatments, waxing, massage treatments, and nail treatments.

Sadly, Ellee’s Hair Design is closed on Mondays and Sundays. In addition, appointments require a non-refundable 50% deposit.

Another staff tester chose Saks Hair & Beauty, a salon serving Aberdeen clients since 1974. They’re open all week, unlike other hair salons who are open only 5 or 6 days a week.

Saks are official stockists of Kerastase and L’Oreal products, and we highly appreciate them partnering with these high quality products. And for those seeking the latest in hair styling, they have all the newest GHDs in-salon.

We’re also impressed with their L’Oreal Colour Specialists, who form part of the top 1% of L’Oreal colourists in the UK.

Their therapists are not just hair experts; they’re specialists in the best beauty brands around. With extensive training in Elemis, Decleor, CACI, Skeyndor, and more, they have the knowledge and skills to pamper you from head to toe. 

Speaking of skills, our staff tester loved their game-changing Keratin Express Blowout service. In just one hour, this keratin treatment tamed her frizzy hair and cut down her daily styling time for up to six weeks. 

They also provide the Novo Cabelo Hair System, a discreet and natural solution for those experiencing hair loss or thinning. 

Unfortunately, there have been some reports of flawed hairstyling, which made customers feel frustrated and unheard.

Also, their hair service fees are comparatively higher, but some believe, our staff tester included, that the quality of their services make it worth every penny.

We were thrilled to test out Bloom’s hair services since we heard that they offer the ultimate vegan and sustainable salon experience in Aberdeen. 

As Keune ambassadors, Bloom takes pride in its cruelty-free colour range that is as stunning as it is ethical. We couldn’t help but feel good about our hair knowing that no animals were harmed in the process. 

Before our first colour appointment, we were pleasantly surprised by the pre-appointment complimentary consultation. It gave our tester the chance to discuss her hair goals and preferences. 

Plus, for her safety, they insisted on a sensitivity test at least 48 hours before her first colour appointment.

Our staff tester appreciated the personalised solutions provided by their expert stylists and colour specialists. They understood her hair needs and brought out the best in her locks. 

As an added bonus, when we added a beauty treatment to our hair appointment, we enjoyed a delightful £5 off our chosen beauty service. Who said you can’t have it all?

Linton & Mac is closed on Sundays, which is disappointing for those who are only free on weekends. Also, there have been reports of abrupt cancellations – just make sure you have a plan B.
