After Military graduating from the Academy Medical School at the University of Thessaloniki in Greece, Nik Vourakis became a practising military dental surgeon.

He then underwent training in the Oral and Maxillofacial Department  Department in 401 Military Hospital, serving in Afghanistan. Admirably, this experience cemented his dedication to dentistry.

Vourakis holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Oral Implantology from Ethnikon Kapodistriakon University of Athens in Greece and a Master’s in Oral Implantology from the Goethe University of Frankfurt in Germany.

Vourakis moved to Edinburgh in early 2015, where he practised oral surgery at private clinics. He has recently begun a mentoring program teaching Oral Implantology.

We like that he continues to further his learning by undertaking various national and international seminars, courses, and learning opportunities. In our opinion, this keeps him up-to-date with the latest developments.

Having said that, he’s well-equipped to perform dental surgeries that include bone and sinus grafting, soft tissue management, and prosthetics. In case you’re worried, it’s also worth noting that he’s a certified pain-free dentist.

While we found it convenient that they’re open 6 days a week, their irregular business hours can be confusing. So, don’t forget to check twice before making an appointment.

We definitely recommend interested patients avail themselves of their complimentary consultation. This way, they can discuss their concerns and viable treatment options.

Though, we do have to warn you that their services are quite pricey. Worse, we were disappointed they don’t have readily available information on their financing options.

After completing a degree in Dentistry from the University of Glasgow, Neil Connell continues to take up several post-graduate courses to remain up with recent developments in the field.

His skillset enables him to perform a variety of dental care needs, from general dentistry to advanced cases that require complicated treatments.

Connell has been actively practising since 2001 at clinics within the Edinburgh and Lothian area. Through this, he’s gained extensive experience treating children and adults.

In our experience, Connell was very approachable and ensured that his patients were well-aware of the details of their treatment options. So, it’s no wonder many parents feel comfortable having him see their children.

As for accessibility, it’s important to note that they’re only operational on weekdays. However, they are open as late as 7 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays for evening appointments.

Unfortunately, we did find their dental fees on the expensive side. On the plus side, these are readily available on their website and patients are comprehensively briefed before proceeding with treatments.

Also on the bright side, they have a few financing options and Care Plans worth exploring if you want to cut costs. Though you’ll need to enquire personally to learn more.

Leanne Branton is the principal dentist and founder of Southside Dental Care. Her main areas of expertise are dental implants and sedation. 

She graduated from the University of Glasgow with a degree in Dentistry. Branton was also shortlisted for several national awards such as the “Best Young Dentist in Scotland” and “Dentist of the Year”.

For most of her early career, Branton spent it in Peru with The Vine Trust charity. There, she practised as a dentist for local villages and orphanages.

At the moment, Branton is working to gain a Diploma in Implantology. In our opinion, this will surely help her take on more complex cases.

Apart from that, she’s a member of a few distinguished dental associations, namely: the Association of Dental Implantology and The Royal Odonto-Chirurgical Society of Scotland.

Whilst her clinic is operational on weekdays, Branton is only available Tuesdays through Thursdays. If you ask us, this is a tad inconvenient as far as scheduling is concerned.

We were also slightly disappointed that their fees aren’t readily available on their site. However, they have an array of instalment options worth enquiring about if you’re looking to spread the cost of your treatment.

Right off the bat, we were impressed by Pierluigi Coli’s extensive qualifications. He completed his studies at the University of Genova, Italy, in 1990, graduating with honours.

Afterwards, Coli was trained in Periodontology, Dental Implantology and Prosthodontics at Göteborg University, Sweden, where he worked for several years.

On top of that, Coli is a registered specialist in Periodontology as well as Prosthodontics. He also has a PhD in Prosthetic Dentistry and Oral Material Sciences from Goteborg University.

Aside from practising, Coli is also a publisher of several renowned scientific studies and peer-reviewed articles. He has also been an international lecturer, teaching and training undergraduate and post-graduate students.

Hence, it’s safe to say that he knows what he’s doing, whether he be in or out of the clinic. So, it doesn’t surprise us that many patients specifically request Coli during their visits.

After graduating from the University of Dundee in 2011, Alisdair Colquhoun continued to practise at several clinics across the Stirlingshire and Lothian area.

Since then, he’s also accomplished a Diploma of Membership from the Faculty of Dental Surgery. He also holds a certificate in Restorative Dentistry through the Tipton Training Dental Academy. 

We admire Colquhoun’s determination to hone his skill as he’s known to undertake various kinds of training for tooth alignments. 

Also, he most recently completed training making him qualified to perform dental implants and provide treatment under IV sedation. 

Hence, he’s a popular choice for many to get a perfect smile. We think Colquhoun’s warm and approachable personality will set you at ease for those dentally anxious.

It’s also worth highlighting that he’s a certified and trained pain-free dentist. So, you can make an appointment easily, knowing you’ll be in good hands.
