Pros

  • Offers brunch daily
  • Also offers specialty coffees, wines, and craft beers
  • Has vegan and gluten-free options
  • Spacious restaurant with high capacity seating
  • Can send customised eGift card
  • Dog-friendly

Cons

  • Dog-friendly
  • A bit pricey
  • Very long wait times

If you are in the mood for brunch options with global influences and specialty coffees, wines, and craft beers, then we think The Bach might be a great option for you. They offer brunch daily from 9 AM to 4PM.

If you are vegan or have gluten allergies, you’d be happy to know that they offer vegan and gluten-free options. In fact, one of their bestsellers is The Fried Vegan, which features beans, veggie haggis, potato scone, and grilled dairy-free halloumi.

We also like their spacious restaurant with high capacity seating. It has 95 seats and 28 tables, making this spot perfect for those planning to have a big brunch with their friends or family.

If you have loved ones who enjoy brunch, you can purchase a customised eGift card for them as well. You can fill in whatever amount you want and even add a personal message.

We like that they are also dog-friendly, which is great news for dog parents and dog lovers.

This place is a tad pricier compared to other brunch places. For instance, their smashed avocado is priced at £8.50, however, this brunch item is priced lower at other restaurants.

We also heard reports of long wait times, with some customers waiting almost an hour for their orders.

2. The Flame Tree Cafe

Pros

  • Scottish-Aussie-inspired menu
  • All-day breakfast/brunch/lunch menu
  • Has vegan options
  • Has a kids’ menu
  • Open, minimalist vibe

Cons

  • Does not take reservations
  • Reporrts of unenthusiastic staff

Another solid brunch spot in Dundee is The Flame Tree Cafe, an independent cafe founded in 2015. They offer a unique, Scottish-Aussie-inspired menu with all-day breakfast, brunch, and lunch options.

This cafe is actually well-known for their famous rainbow bagels. This cute, Instagrammable brunch item would certainly brighten up anyone’s day.

Other popular brunch meals they have include Flame Tree BLT, Bacon and Syrup Maple Waffles, Smoked Salmon, and Coronation Chicken. For vegans, they have Simply Vegan Bacon, Vegan Applewood Smoked Toast, and Veggie Haggis.

They are also famous for their line of vegan milkshakes, with mouthwatering flavours such as Honeycomb, Salted Caramel, White Chocolate, Oreo, and Biscoff.

They also have a kids’ menu, which we adore. Surely, anyone would love ordering fairy bread and precious babyccinos for their young ones!

The place itself has a minimalist vibe, which we like. It has striking white walls with black accents, neutral-coloured seating, wall-to-wall windows, and wood touches here and there – perfect for your socials.

One downside is that they do not accept reservations. They operate strictly on a walk-in basis, so one would need to show up early if they want guaranteed seats.

Some customers also mentioned that some of their staff members were quite unenthusiastic and looked very bored while serving them, making them feel unwelcome.

3. The Cannon

Pros

  • Everything is made to order
  • Famous for their specialty pancakes
  • Known for their vegan frappes
  • Has a kids’ menu
  • Laidback, cosy atmosphere

Cons

  • Tiny space
  • Closed on Tuesdays
  • Reports of food issues

We think The Cannon is another great brunch option for Dundee dwellers. They are known for their delicious homemade breakfast, brunch, and lunch options.

One thing that sets them apart is that they make everything to order. This allows them to provide customers wfresh and high-quality brunches every time.

They are also famous for their pancakes. They offer this crowdpleaser in three flavours – Biscoff, Nutella, and Oreo –  all of which we think are indulgent options.

If you are in the mood for vegan frappes, they’d be the brunch place to go to as well. Aside from the usual flavours, they also offer Biscoff, Kinder Bueno, Strawberry and Cream, and Oreo – each frappe is even topped with vegan cream!

They also have a kids’ menu, which is great for parents with children that are picky eaters. Their cheese sandwich and mini-pancakes are said to be quite popular with the young ones.

If you are planning to go as a group, do note that this place is a bit on the tiny side. Thus, it might get a bit too cramped inside, depending on how busy it is.

Unlike other brunch places that are open all week, this one is actually closed on Tuesdays.

Surprisingly, we heard reports of food quality issues. Some customers mentioned that they had unseasoned and overcooked eggs, cold toast, and terribly stale tea, which is a bit unsettling.

4. Vandal & Co.

Pros

  • Specialises in classic, bistro-style food with vegetarian and vegan options
  • Has special daily deals
  • Offers Bottoms Up Brunch available Fridays, Saturdays, & Sundays
  • Has a kids’ menu with free drinks
  • Supports Oxfam charity

Cons

  • Reports of quality issues with food
  • Long wait times
  • Cannot book online for groups of 6 or more

Vandal & Co. specialises in classic, bistro-style food with vegetarian and vegan options. This makes them one of the go-to places for brunch in Dundee.

What’s unique about them is that they have special daily deals, which we think are great money-savers. For instance, they have Tax-Free Thursdays, wherein they offer 20% off on all food on Thursdays.

We think brunch lovers should try their Bottoms Up Brunch deal available on Fridays, Saturdays, & Sundays. For only £20, customers can have one brunch dish plus two cocktails.

Parents appreciate that their kids’ menu offerings also include free drinks for kids. This includes the usual favourites: apple juice, orange juice, and milk.

We also admire that they support Oxfam, a charity that gives people access to clean water. When customers order water for the table, they will be asked to donate 50p to the charity, which will then be matched by the restaurant.

Sadly, some customers mentioned that some orders were not up to par. Some of these reports include dry burger buns, rubber-like tacos, overcooked pork, and undercooked ramen.

Their long times were said to be annoying as well, with some customers waiting 20 minutes for their Cokes alone, and another 40 minutes for the food.

Lastly, groups of 6 or more can’t be booked online. One would need to call them up and make special arrangements, which can be inconvenient.

5. The Post House Coffee Co.

Pros

  • Provides artisanal coffees
  • Won 2018 Scottish Coffee Awards’ Best Espresso in Scotland and was finalist in Best Newcomer category
  • Has vegan brunch options
  • Known for their gluten-free cakes
  • Wheelchair- and power chair-friendly
  • Offers outside seating

Cons

  • Comparatively limited brunch menu
  • Some reports of customers feeling rushed

The Post House Coffee Co. combines the best of both worlds: coffee and brunch. They are an independent coffee house that has been providing artisanal coffees and great brunch options since 2016.

They won the 2018 Scottish Coffee Awards’ Best Espresso in Scotland, and they were a finalist in the Best Newcomer category, which is mightily impressive. These recognitions are proof that they love what they do, and are brilliant at it.

For fans of more traditional brunch fare, we think you’d like what they have to offer. Crowd favourites include their Full Scottish Breakfast, Eggs Benedict, Post House Stack, and Belgian Waffles.

Aside from these usual brunch items, they also have awesome vegan brunch options. Vegans can choose from their Vegan Grill, vegetarian sausages, baked beans, and potato scones; and Avocado and Greens.

By way of dessert, they are known for their gluten-free cakes. Their bestsellers include lemon drizzle and raspberry cake and basil olive oil cake.

Unlike other restaurants, they are actually wheelchair- and power chair-friendly. They also offer outdoor seating, which is great for those who love people-watching during brunch.

One of their downsides is their comparatively limited brunch menu. Also, some customers mentioned that they felt quite rushed by the staff, with some even given a 30-minute time limit.
