  • Offer custom logo blinds
  • Provide free on-site area surveys
  • Mechanisms have built-in safety devices
  • Accepts all major payment types
  • Offers pick-up and delivery

Cons

  • Don’t offer ready-made blinds
  • Sometimes can’t accommodate new customers due to high demand

1st Choice Blinds has been the go-to supplier and installer of blinds in Edinburgh and the surrounding areas for the last several years.

They offer a range of high-quality roller, vertical, Roman, and Venetian blinds, among others, but what really caught our eye is that they provide custom-made logo blinds.

With this service, businesses can have their unique logos printed on blinds fitted to windows of all shapes and sizes. In our opinion, this is a stylish way to boost branding at a low cost.

Popular names such as Amazon, DEM Solutions Ltd, and Hibernian Football Club have availed of this service.

As for safety measures, it’s worth noting that their blinds have built-in safety devices. To be specific, their pull cords, chains, and other similar mechanisms are designed to snap under pressure, alleviating any risk of being a potential hazard.

While it’s great that all their blinds are custom-made, this is a tad inconvenient for those looking to purchase blinds on the spot.

Even so, the company is also well-known for its quick turnover. Many clients we’ve spoken to can vouch for this, praising their installers for finishing quickly without skimping on quality.

As an added convenience, it’s great that they’re open daily until 8 PM. Customers can also opt to pick up their order or have it delivered straight to their door.

To boot, they accept all major payment types, namely Solo, Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, and JCB.

Since they are quite sought-after, there have been instances wherein they can’t accommodate some interested clients. Hence, we suggest booking an appointment ASAP or visiting them in person.

Pros

  • Has been in the industry for over 50 years
  • All blinds and installations come with a 12-month guarantee
  • Customers can add special features
  • Blinds have built-in safety measures
  • BBSA compliant

Cons

  • Don’t have blinds off the shelf
  • Minimal complaints about poor customer service

Delta Blinds is one of Edinburgh’s most established blinds manufacturing and installation company with over 50 years of industry experience in its roots.

They offer different blind styles, types, colours, and sizes, from vertical to pleated. Aside from windows, these can be made to fit patio doors and similar furniture.

Since they’re made-to-measure, you can expect that it may take a while for you to receive them. Hence, they’re not ideal for those looking for blinds off the shelf.

On a brighter note, we don’t think waiting should be too painful since customers can add special features to their blinds. These include making them motorised, adding solar protective coating, and more.

As for safety, we think it’s great that their blinds are made following the BBSA (British Blind & Shutter Association) regulations.

On top of that, their blinds have built-in safety features such as chain break connectors that ensure they’re not a choking hazard. Clients can also have their chains/cords at a fixed length or opt for wands instead.

We also think it’s worth mentioning that all of their blinds and installation services come with a no-fuss 12-month guarantee. We appreciate the additional protection this gives customers in case of a malfunctioning unit or faulty job.

The only downside we’ve encountered thus far is very minimal complaints about poor customer service.

Pros

  • Performs price matches
  • Multiple payment methods accepted
  • Blinds come with child-safe technology
  • Sales and installation services are fully insured
  • Staff have Enhanced Disclosures from Disclosure Scotland.

Cons

  • No showroom
  • Small team

Unique to Edinburgh Budget Blinds Limited apart is its dedication to ensuring that its products and services are affordable.

We found it impressive that they perform price matches. So, if you’ve found a better deal elsewhere, they’re willing to beat that and offer you the lowest price possible.

Based on our assessment, we don’t think they’re skimping out on quality despite the low price. They’re authorised resellers of high-quality blinds such as Tranquility, Eclipse, and Decora.

These come in all sizes and over a hundred different colours and patterns. So, given their wide selection, we don’t think you’ll come out of their store empty-handed.

We love that interested customers can view their products via their Design Space. Here, clients can play around with how it looks to better visualise their blinds without leaving their homes.

We were truly disappointed that they don’t have a showroom. We think many extra discerning clients would have liked to see the blinds in person to make more informed decisions.

It’s great that their blinds already come with child-safe technology, per the law. So, you won’t have to worry about any potential dangers, especially around young ones.

It’s great that their sales and installation services are fully insured for additional peace of mind. All their staff members have Enhanced Disclosures from Disclosure Scotland, too.

It’s also an added perk that they accept payments made through Mastercard, Visa, and Maestro.

While we were a tad concerned about their small team, it doesn’t seem to be the cause of any issues thus far. However, this may change, especially when they’re in high demand.

Pros

  • 50+ years in the industry
  • Blinds come with a 12-month guarantee
  • Free fitting service
  • Known to work quickly and tidily
  • Blinds have built-in safety features as outlined by the BBSA
  • Provide free delivery service
  • Has standard sized blinds in store

Cons

  • Small team
  • Limited selection of blinds

Phoenix Blinds has been a family-run business in the industry for over 50 years, with a great reputation amongst Edinburgh locals.

We think that they’ve established such a prominent standing because of the hands-on management and workmanship. In fact, its owner, Peter, is known to visit clients’ homes himself to conduct free fittings and consultations.

It’s also worth mentioning that they work quickly and tidily, so clients don’t have to stress about the aftermath of their installation services.

Another thing they’re known for is their prompt service. In fact, some clients we’ve gotten in touch with claimed that they had a house visit scheduled the day after their enquiry.

Hence, we definitely have to give it to them in terms of stellar customer service despite a small team. However, this may become a concern should they experience an influx of bookings.

To boot, they also provide free delivery services. Hence, it’s no surprise that many Edinburgh locals have Peter and his team install all the blinds in their homes.

On top of made-to-measure blinds, they also have products on-hand for in-store purchases, which is great for clients needing an immediate fix.

Their blinds also come with a 12-month warranty and built-in safety features outlined by the BBSA for extra protection. This includes spring assistance and chain break connectors, among others.

However, we did find their selection of blinds to be quite limited. We’d like to see more unique pieces to give clients a wider variety.

Pros

  • 30+ years of industry experience
  • Has standard-sized blinds in store
  • Specialises in fire retardent blinds
  • Free installation services
  • Known to show great attention to detail

Cons

  • Small selection of blinds
  • Sometimes forgets to return customers’ calls

Owned by John and Brenda Pearson, Abacus Blinds has been in the blinds industry for the last 30 years.

Many recognise them from Musselburgh High Street in East Lothian as they used to be located there. Today, you can easily find them at Stockbridge.

What caught our attention was that they specialise in producing fire retardent blinds containing additives that slow down or stop the spread of fires. We found this a unique feature as we haven’t really seen this elsewhere.

In our opinion, this is a useful product that would benefit many residential and commercial properties.

In fact, Abacus Blinds has been supplying fire retardent blinds in schools for the last 20 years, which we think is evidence of the trust many put in their products.

However, we were disappointed at the small selection of blinds they have. While we’d like to see more variety, it’s good that Abacus Blinds has all the basics in stock.

That said, we like clients can also find standard-sized blinds readily available on their shelves. This way, those in a hurry won’t have to wait for a made-to-measure piece.

If you’re unsure about what to look for, you can give them a ring. Though, there are instances where they sometimes forget to return clients’ calls, so we suggest popping by to enquire personally.

In our experience, John and Brenda were incredibly friendly and accommodating in answering all of our questions.

On top of that, installation services are free of charge. We were happy to hear compliments on their attention to detail from a number of their past clients.
