Pros

  • Affordable services
  • Offers haircut and beard packages
  • Sell grooming products
  • Has a loyalty card
  • Online booking system available
  • Barbers have a versatile skillset

Cons

  • Relatively young company
  • Beard trims are only done with clippers at the moment
  • Closed on Sundays and Mondays

With just a little over 5 years of experience, Sink and Anchor has already garnered quite the reputation amongst Edinburgh locals as a top-notch barber shop. So, any reservations we have because of their age were quickly put at ease.

They offer haircuts starting at £22, student cuts at £19, and beard trims at £16. In our opinion, these are quite reasonably priced fees.

We also like that they offer packages to make their services more affordable. So, a student cut with a beard trim is only £23, while a regular cut with a beard trim is just £26.

Speaking of pricing, they also have a loyalty card where you can collect stamps to redeem discounts. We think this is a fun way of rewarding their customers.

Though, we were a tad disappointed that they only use clippers for their beard trims at the moment. So, if you want it done with scissors or razors, you’ll have to look at the other options on this list instead.

On the brighter side, we think that their shop has a fun yet chill atmosphere. While waiting, you can even play with their in-store console to kill some boredom.

On top of that, they also sell various grooming products such as beard oil. We think this is an added convenience as you won’t have to go far to purchase your haircare items.

It’s also handy that they have an online booking system. This way, you can easily schedule an appointment at any time.

Unfortunately, they’re closed on Sundays and Mondays, which we think may affect accessibility. Though, we don’t really mind, given the versatile skillsets of their barbers, which makes them incredibly sought-after.

Pros

  • Has 4 locations across Edinburgh
  • Accepts walk-ins
  • Provides complimentary drinks with each service
  • Hair wash on request
  • Online booking system available
  • Clients can choose their barber
  • Barbers work with great precision
  • Barbers can work with afro hair

Cons

  • Closed on Sundays and Mondays
  • Quite a young company

Established in 2015, Rag & Bone has 4 locations across Edinburgh for easy access. You can find them at Bruntsfield, Morrison, Jeffrey, and Dundas.

We also appreciate that you can have your hair washed on request in consideration for those that would prefer to go straight to the cutting.

We think they’re affordable with a regular haircut priced at £25 and beard trimming set at £20.

It’s also worth highlighting that their barbers can work on afro hair. We appreciate the inclusivity this provides even though this can take a tad longer than regular cuts.

To make up for it, they provide complimentary drinks with every service. These include Redbull, INNGUNN Beer, or council juice.

In our experience, clients are definitely spoilt here since your hair will be dried and dressed according to how you like it. Apart from that, their barbers will give you comprehensive aftercare advice to keep your hair looking fresh.

Did we mention that you can even choose the barber doing your cut? We think this is worth doing a happy dance for, especially for extra discerning clients that are selective with who touches their hair.

We’ve heard a tonne about how their barbers work with great precision, so it’s safe to say that you’ll be in good hands here. In particular, many clients raved about their high-quality fades.

Though, keep in mind that they’re closed on Sundays and Mondays. While it’s great that they accept walk-ins, we still highly encourage you to set an appointment to secure a slot which you can do via their website’s booking system.

Pros

  • Open daily
  • Offers colour and hair extensions
  • Offers services at different price points
  • Has 2 shops in Edinburgh
  • Online booking system available
  • Clients can choose their barber
  • Offers Silent Cuts
  • Provides children’s cuts

Cons

  • Cuts by junior and senior stylists are quite pricey
  • Can only offer limited slots daily

Another great barbershop in Edinburgh is Stag Barber Co. They have 2 shops in Edinburgh – Lady Lawson and Haymarket Terrace – so you can visit whichever is closest to you.

Since they have many regulars, we appreciate that they employ a few extra measures to ensure they can accommodate all of their customers.

In particular, they have a user-friendly online booking system. You can easily view available time slots, so you won’t have to worry about long waits.

We love that clients can also book Silent Haircuts if they’re not keen on having a conversation. In our opinion, this is a lovely little “extra” that many other shops should incorporate, too.

You can also choose your preferred stylist, which is definitely a plus in our book!

They also have a large team, from trainees to senior stylists. So, they have enough hands to meet their demand, especially during peak hours.

This also means that their services come at different prices depending on who’s doing your hair. We think this helps make their services more affordable.

Though, if you’re getting a cut done by their junior and senior stylists, we find their fees on the pricier side. Even so, many of their regulars think it’s worth it.

Did we mention that they also do children’s cuts? We think this is a lifesaver for parents struggling to find talented and patient barbers to do their kids’ hair.

On top of that, they provide colouring and hair extensions. We were pleasantly surprised to see this as these services aren’t common at barber shops.

It’s also worth mentioning that they’re open daily. So, you can drop by any day of the week if you’re itching to get a fresh cut.

However, their shop is quite small, so they only offer limited slots daily. Hence, we suggest booking in advance.

Pros

  • Barbers are well-known for consistent quality
  • Offers cuts for those under 12
  • Complimentary refreshments available
  • Shop is spotless and hygienic
  • Online booking system available
  • Clients can choose their barber

Cons

  • Not open on Sundays and Mondays
  • Varying closing times
  • A bit on the pricier side

What we love about Backstage Barbers is the consistent quality of their cuts. Hence, it doesn’t come as a surprise how well-known they are among Edinburgh locals.

In particular, many of their past clients raved about their impressive skin fade. In our opinion, this is a strong testament to their experience and technical abilities.

Did we mention that they also offer cuts for those under 12? We think this is worth mentioning for parents and guardians looking for an experienced barber for their children.

To make the experience worthwhile, clients will also get to enjoy complimentary refreshments. In our experience, we had a great chat with their barbers, too.

While still affordable, their prices are on the pricier side. Though, many would argue that their quality-to-price ratio is worth the great cut.

Based on our assessment, we found the place to be spotless. It’s also worth noting that they employ strict hygienic practices, which are greatly appreciated, especially in this day and age.

Unfortunately, they aren’t open Sundays and Mondays. They also have varying closing times, so be sure to double-check before making an appointment.

Speaking of, you can easily do so via their online booking system. To boot, you can also choose your preferred barber, which is a perk, especially for picky clients.

Pros

  • 10 years of industry experience
  • Affordable rates
  • Provides a special rate for eligible clients
  • Chill shop atmosphere
  • Has an online booking system
  • Offers kids’ haircuts

Cons

  • Irregular business hours
  • Small team

If industry experience is an important criterion for you then you’ll be pleased to find that Havoc Barbershop has a decade’s worth of experience in the industry.

With a quaint shop at St. Leonard’s, they’ve become a local favourite over the years. According to some past clients we’ve gotten in touch with, they love how the barbers here give them the exact cut they’re going for.

We also think this is because of their top-notch value for money. In our opinion, their services are affordable at £22 for a regular haircut and £14 for a buzzcut.

To make their services more accessible, they offer their services at a special rate of £16.50. So, if you’re a child, student, OAP, or work in emergency services, you should take note of this.

As for their shop, we love the chill atmosphere as this helps promote relaxation. Their barbers are great conversationalists, too, which adds to the overall experience.

Though, we do have to warn you that they have irregular business hours, which can be a bit confusing. So, we highly encourage that you check twice before scheduling an appointment.

Having said that, it’s a bit of a bummer that they’re closed on Sundays and Mondays. It was also a concern for us that Sam, the owner, is the only barber.

So, these may pose some availability issues, especially since they can be full on certain days. To avoid this, we suggest booking an appointment via their website where you’ll see the available slots.

Looking for a barber shop that is worth your money? With Gruagaire Hair Salon and Barbers, you will be more than satisfied at the end of your service.

Right now they only have one barber, Ammar Tabanja. But this does not stop them from providing quality haircuts, beard trims, and hot shave.

What’s great about them is that if you did not book an appointment, they will still entertain you when you go to their barber shop.

So if you want to impulsively change your look, they are the best shop to go to!

Aside from these, they do not only do men services, but women as well. They do hair cuts, hair dressing, hair coloring, and even highlights.
