Edinburgh’s Top 5 Pilates Studios You’ll Want to Show Up For

Quality of Instructors – We picked studios that had certified instructors who really know their stuff, whether it’s mat, reformer, or specialised pilates. We highlighted instructors who were supportive, encouraging, and happy to give hands-on tips to help you get your form right.

Class Variety and Specialisations – We looked for studios that offered a good mix of classes, from unique styles to specialised sessions tailored for different levels and progressions.

Equipment and Studio Facilities – We handpicked studios that had high-quality and modern machines, a spacious and clean layout, and thoughtful amenities like showers, lockers, and water stations to keep you comfortable before, during, and after class.

Schedule and Availability – We checked out the class availability options, ease of booking, location of the studio, and accessibility features that make getting to class hassle-free.

Price, Membership, and Value – We eyed studios that are an investment and worth the burn, with convenient rates, flexible memberships, and great value for the experience and results you get.

This year, I declared that I’d be in my ‘Soft Girl’ era, where I’d become a certified ‘pilates princess’, swapping coffee for matcha (well… trying), and romanticising my life at every opportunity. What no one told me? In pilates, “low impact” does not mean low effort.

One minute I’m strolling into class in my matching pink set, the next I’m being humbled by a reformer, shaking like a newborn deer, and wondering if I could slip out early. But honestly? The burn felt great. Before long, I was getting stronger, steadier, and more obsessed with pilates.

From hot mat flows to reformer sessions that will light up muscles you didn’t even know existed, I’ve dragged along my coworkers to test them all, just so you get the real tried-and-sweaty top picks.

Pilates Plus With Tricia offers a warm, personalized approach to Pilates that emphasizes mindful, functional movement. The studio is led by Tricia, a Jamaican-born, New York-trained instructor who brings both experience and passion to every class.

Tricia’s own journey with injuries has shaped her approach, ensuring that sessions are tailored to individual needs. Her understanding of biomechanics and rehabilitation helps clients strengthen safely without aggravating old injuries.

The studio combines classical Pilates from the Lolita San Miguel Method with contemporary Stott Pilates techniques. This unique blend allows for exercises that are precise, effective, and adaptable for all fitness levels.

Classes are intentionally small, capped at 10 participants, allowing for personalized guidance and attention. This ensures that every client receives corrective feedback and modifications suited to their body.

The environment at Pilates Plus is comfortable, with high-quality mats and props available for every participant. Tricia’s teaching style blends anatomy, intuition, and a touch of Jamaican warmth, making sessions engaging and supportive.

Whether recovering from an injury, seeking mindful fitness, or aiming to enhance athletic performance, the studio caters to diverse goals. The emphasis is always on sustainable strength, posture, and mobility rather than quick fixes.

Overall, Pilates Plus With Tricia offers a holistic Pilates experience that supports long-term wellness. The combination of expert guidance, personalized attention, and a welcoming atmosphere makes it a standout Pilates studio.

Pros

  • Personalized instruction with small class sizes
  • Safe, injury-informed approach to movement

Tricia is such a warm and welcoming teacher

“Tricia is such a warm and welcoming teacher,  she makes everyone feel comfortable, even if you’re brand new to Pilates. Every class is different, fun, and really works your whole body – with a lovely bit of well deserved relaxation at the end :). I always leave the classes feeling energised and happy. Couldn’t recommend her more!”

Tribe has been part of the Pilates scene for over 10 years, offering a great mix of classes, from classic mat sessions to unique hybrid sessions with extra core focus.

Classes welcome both beginners and experienced folks, with sizes of around 7 to 15, so you get plenty of attention from your instructors, so make sure your core stays engaged.

Another plus is that there are two locations in Edinburgh – Leith Walk and New Town, making it easy to get to. To boot, there are amenities like showers and lockers, which are helpful if you’re fitting a class into a busy day.

Speaking of, we appreciate their long hours, letting you drop by as early as 6:30 AM. The catch? Slots fill up fast, so book early. They’re also on the pricier side, so it’s worth grabbing a promo, as you’ll only get the most value if you attend regularly.

Pros

  • Beginner and experienced-friendly
  • Convenient locations
  • Flexible hours
  • Wide variety of classes

Cons

  • High demand
  • Pricey

Such a great workout

“I absolutely love Tribe Leith Walk! The barre classes are my favourite – such a great workout and always a fantastic atmosphere. The instructors are so motivating and welcoming, and the studio itself has a really positive energy. I just wish there were a few more barre classes at times that work for those of us with a 9–5 schedule, but that’s only because they’re so good! Couldn’t recommend Tribe enough.”

Instructors are so attentive and supportive

“I came to Tribe not knowing what to expect and to try Reformer (and was a bit daunted by it). It has been a lovely experience, instructors are so attentive and supportive and they put you in such a good mood for the rest of your day. Kudos to Otto in particular!”

If you love Pilates by the book, then you’ll feel right at home in The Pilates Studio. Their classes focus on precision, flow, control, and proper alignment, all designed to build strength and improve mobility.

If you’re new to the Pilates scene, their 4-week intro courses are a great starting point. And with a max of 3 students in a starter course, you’ll get plenty of personalised attention and supervision.

We also appreciate the flexibility, offering everything from 1-on-1 sessions to online classes, so there’s really no excuse for not showing up. It’s the perfect spot for holistic and tailored Pilates, whether you’re recovering from injuries or simply giving it a try.

Another plus: they have a wide range of equipment, think wunda chairs, wall units and more, not just your standard reformers. Just note that because the demand is high, slots fill up quickly. Book ahead to secure your spot.

Pros

  • Focus on Classical Pilates
  • Highly flexible options
  • Holistic and tailored approach
  • Extensive equipment range

Cons

  • High demand
  • No weekend classes

Perfect mix of hard work and fun

“A fabulous teacher to learn the Pilates method from! Every lesson I have with Sabrina is always the perfect mix of hard work and fun. She is not only knowledgeable, but very kind and encouraging. If you really want to get stuck in to Pilates practice, I strongly recommend booking some 1:1s with her at her lovely studio near Portobello beach.”

Fabrizio Medinelli, Google Reviews

Fantastic teacher

“I have been going to regular classes at the Pilates studio edinburgh for two years. In that time my postnatal diastasis has almost gone and I’ve felt stronger with better posture. Two years is probably the longest I’ve stuck with any regime and it’s definitely in part thanks to Sabrina’s encouragement and support. She’s a fantastic teacher full of knowledge and positivity. If you’re thinking about giving Pilates a go don’t look any further!”

One of the newer studios on the block, maeve is a popular one for its modern and energetic take on classical Pilates. While this may not be a purist’s cup of tea, it’s great if you like a blended approach, mixing barre, sculpt, and hot classes.

We also appreciate the more intimate class sizes, which ensure that each student gets personalised attention. Another plus is the spacious, well-lit space that feels more like a wellness studio than a gym.

We also recommend starting with their introductory offers, as they’re a great way to test the waters without fully committing, and at a reasonable price.

However, this also means slots fill up quickly. On the brighter side, they’re open daily and until late from Monday to Thursday, giving you more chances to squeeze in a session. And with plans to expand, there’s even more to look forward to.

Pros

  • Small class sizes
  • Modern, energetic approach
  • Flexible class schedules
  • Good introductory offers

Cons

  • Not for purists
  • High demand

The Pilates Hub is, well, exactly what it sounds like. It’s a fully-equipped space for true, classical Pilates. From towers to chairs, they’ve got all of the equipment you need to work through a full range of movements and resistance.

Hence, it’s the perfect spot for more advanced practitioners, as apparatus-based classes can be on the intense side. Even so, don’t worry if you’re a beginner, as you won’t be left out. There are dedicated programmes to help you ease in at your own pace.

Plus, we appreciate the flexible options, including private sessions, allowing you to tailor your training to your goals. Though because they’re a dedicated Pilates studio complete with all of the apparatus, they’ll cost a tad more than mat-only or gym-style studios.

But here’s the hitch: the schedules can be a little unpredictable, so it’s best to double-check their website before planning your session.

Pros

  • Fully-equipped
  • Great for advanced practitioners
  • Offers beginner-dedicated programmes
  • Flexible training formats

Cons

  • Schedule can be unpredictable
  • Slightly higher prices

Can’t recommend it enough

“I have been coming to the Pilates Hub for over two years and I am happy to say it has been transformational. My strength and flexibility have hugely progressed and previous stiffness and discomfort have dissipated. But it’s much more than that – a wonderful sense of community, for one. The teachers are excellent and work with you at every level – supporting where needed and pushing you to keep challenging yourself. The range of equipment means there is always something new to learn as well. I can’t recommend it enough.”

Christine Wilson, Google Reviews

Classes are small and friendly

“I cannot recommend The Pilates Hub highly enough! Great teaching with a real focus on individual improvement. Classes are small and friendly and I feel I have made progress in my pilates journey. I was new to Pilates when I started and have become a real convert. I always look forward to my weekly class.”
