Pros
- Has over 60 years of industry experience

- Van rentals come with several inclusions
- Hourly and one-way car hire options
- Short, medium, and long-term business contracts
Cons
- Comparatively pricier
- Reports of stroppy staff
Arnold Clark Car & Van Rental is a Glasgow-based firm with over 60 years of industry know-how under their belt.
First, we felt that they’re proper legit. For starters, they’re fully accredited members of the British Vehicle Rental & Leasing Association (BVRLA), which means they follow all the industry standards and guidelines.
Plus, they’re also VisitScotland Information Partners for Scotland. This is a fancy way of saying they know the area like the back of their hand.
After enquiring, we discovered that their van rentals come with several inclusions, giving you great bang for your buck. These include insurance, roadside assistance, unlimited mileage for four-day rentals, and VAT.
To give their services a test drive, we opted for their hourly rental option. We’re pleased to say that the Citroen Berlingo van we hired was in impeccable condition and ran seamlessly.
However, we did find the hourly rate of £35 for a small van quite steep. One would be better off hiring a van for a full day.
We also think their one-way car hire option is an ace feature. This allows customers the freedom to end their journey anywhere.
For businesses looking for short, medium, and long-term contracts, we think they’d be the ones to call. These options allow businesses to hire vehicles as needed.
Aside from their high hourly rates, their daily rates are quite high as well, ranging from £70-£120 per day for small to extra-large vans.
There have also been some reports of stroppy and aggressive staff. However, it’s important to note that these reports may be isolated incidents since the staff who helped us were quite lovely.

Pros
- Has over 35 years of experience in the industry
- Has their own full-service and repair facilities
- Also provides fleet management services
- Competitively-priced van rentals
- 200 miles free per day
Cons
- Van was a tad dirty
- £50.00 for an advanced reservation fee
- Reports of customers being charged for diesel
AMK Self Drive is another top-notch vehicle rental company in Glasgow. With over 35 years of experience in the industry, we think they can cover your car and van rental needs.
One thing that sets them apart is their own full-service and repair facilities. This means customers don’t have to faff about finding a different repair facility and can get everything sorted in one place.
They even offer fleet management services, so you don’t have to worry about keeping track of your vehicles’ maintenance schedules. They’ll remind you when it’s time for servicing, road taxes, or the dreaded Ministry of Transport Test (MOT).
We were really pleased with their prices, ranging from a mere £52 to £130 per day. On top of that, they provide 200 miles free per day, which we found to be a cracking deal.
Unfortunately, we were disappointedthat it was not as spick and span as we would’ve preferred. Additionally, it had a bit of a pong to it, which prompted us to dig out our disinfectant sprays and fragrances.
Moreover, we had to pay an upfront reservation fee of £50.00, which was non-refundable in case of cancellation. This policy could be problematic for those who have to alter their plans due to unexpected events.
We also heard reports of customers being charged for diesel even though they returned the vehicle with a full tank. Luckily, we didn’t have to deal with that, but it’s definitely something they need to sort out.

Pros
- Family-run business
- Easy online booking system
- Has a 24-hour Helpline
- Fairly new fleet of vehicles with premium brands
- Awesome customers service
- Has a price match guarantee
Cons
- Can be a tad pricier
- Should book well in advance
Little’s Vehicle Hire is a proper family affair in Glasgow. They offered a personal touch and plenty of local know-how which we loved, and we highly recommend these blokes!
First off, booking with them was easy peasy, lemon squeezy. We made an online booking, and it was confirmed on the same day!
Upon booking, we were made aware of their 24-hour Helpline. The booking also came with 200 free miles per day and insurance, which we thought was a proper bargain.
Unlike other van rentals, all their vehicles are less than 1 year old, and the majority of their vans are premium brands like Mercedes and Volkswagen. Our van was certainly posh-looking and neat as a pin to boot.
If you need any help, Jason is a top bloke and will make sure everything goes smoothly on the day of your rental.
Little’s Vehicle Hire also offers a price match guarantee on all van hires, which is ace regardless of the booking length. This means you can have peace of mind, knowing you’re getting a fair price for your rental.
Speaking of pricing, they’re a tad pricier, with prices starting at £60 per day while others start at £52. However, we think the difference we paid was worth it due to their van quality and excellent customer service.
Also, because they’re so popular, we recommend that you book well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Pros
- Trading for over 30 years
- Easy online booking process
- Also offers European rentals
- Cheap rates
- Come with 100 miles per day, VAT, and insurance
- Cheery and friendly staff
Cons
- Dirty, rusty, and damaged vans
- Reports of customers being charged unfairly
We found their booking process to be relatively painless. They had a straightforward online booking request form that made it easy for us to choose our rental dates and vehicle type.
They also offer European rentals, but they can only be taken by prior arrangement. This is a bonus for anyone planning a road trip across the continent.
We did appreciate their cheap rates, with small vans available from £50 per day. Our van rental came with a mileage allowance of 100 miles per day, VAT, and insurance, which was a decent deal overall.
When we went to collect the van, we were pleased to find the staff were incredibly friendly and upbeat. They greeted us with big smiles, handed over the keys, and wished us a great day ahead.
Sadly, the van we received was not in the best condition.
It was dirty, rusty, and its passenger door did not open properly. This is a classic case of “you get what you pay for,” and it’s important to keep this in mind when choosing a rental company based on price alone.
After a little digging around, we heard reports of customers being charged for damages that were already there when they received the rental. Do make sure to inspect the vehicle thoroughly and even take pictures before driving off.

Pros
- Global company founded in 1918
- Open 24/7
- Friendly, attentive, and patient staff
- Has a Gold Plus membership program
- Offers moving van hire options
- Clean and smooth-running vans
Cons
- Report of rentals being cancelled unexpectedly
- Might need to book in advance
If you’re looking for a reliable van rental company in Glasgow, we think Hertz is definitely worth considering. Founded in 1918, Hertz is a global rental company with a wealth of experience and a sterling reputation.
They have a location in IKEA Glasgow that is open 24/7, which is perfect for those who need to rent a van at odd hours.
We went there to hire a small van, and we found the attendant to be friendly, attentive, and patient. She made sure that all of our rental needs were met and even went above and beyond by patiently answering all our queries.
Frequent van renters might like their Gold Plus membership program. Being a member can save you up to 10% on your rentals, and it comes with a best rate guarantee and their own self-serve app.
They offer moving van hire options as well, which is great for those who need to transport valuables securely and safely.
As for the van we rented, it was quite acceptable. It was fairly clean, and it ran like a dream, which we appreciate.
However, we heard reports of bookings being cancelled minutes before the actual booking. That’s definitely not acceptable, and it’s important to make sure that you have a backup plan in case something like this happens.
Additionally, some customers reported difficulty securing a booking, as they were unable to book a vehicle for two weeks. This might be due to their popularity, so book well in advance.
