The 5 Best Thai Restaurants in Aberdeen That’ll Have You Saying, “Kap khun ka/krap!”
There’s no shame in admitting that you’ve gotten tired of eating haggis or roast. I, for one, have been in that situation, and thanks to my late-night YouTube recommendations, I stumbled upon a Thai mukbang—I needed Thai food, and I needed it fast.
That sparked my quest for an unforgettable Thai food experience in Aberdeen. I didn’t just go for the usual tourist starter pack—Pad Thai and mango sticky rice (though, no hate, they’re classics). I went all in with spicy som tam mamuang, fluffy khai jiao, and a comforting bowl of khao soi.
So, to save you the trial and error, we’ve reviewed the best Thai restaurants in Aberdeen that’ll have you saying kap khun ka/krap in no time!

What we like most about Koi Thai Restaurant is that they have many diverse vegetarian and vegan options on their menu. We also appreciate that they made it easy for customers to view on their page or at their restaurant—it beats the hassle of having to find out when you arrive.
On top of that, they offer gluten-free menu items like chicken satay, Nam Tok (Grilled Pork Salad), and Tom Yum. So, you won’t feel like you’re missing out on something good, as their famous dishes are also gluten-free.
We also love that their lunch menu offers affordable two-course meals, usually starting at around £16.95. Their portions are generous, and the customers we chatted with shared that they got their money’s worth and then some.
You won’t have trouble asking for recommendations based on your taste and dietary restrictions, either, since their staff is incredibly attentive.
Just a heads-up, though: their place can get packed quickly, especially during peak hours, so it’s best to call and book ahead.
Staff were beyond lovely
“Staff were beyond lovely! Made this our experience amazing and we will definitely be back. Lovely welcoming and very attentive staff. Food was amazing! We shared the mixed sharing platter followed with the weeping tiger steak and Thai red curry. We both left so full and happy. Never been before and I can’t wait to come back, my new favourite restaurant.”

The food was lush
“What a wee gem of a place. First time here last night with a friend and it was really amazing. The atmosphere was cosy, the service was super friendly and you where made to feel so welcome. Owner came over and chatted which I thought just gave it that extra friendly feel. The food was lush! I can’t actually say anything apart from lush! I am very fussy about my food and I couldn’t fault it at all. Perfect wee place and can’t wait to go back.”

Siam Cottage offers an incredible menu variety, giving you the full Thai dining experience in one place. Their street food selection is a standout, with everything from Khao Man Gai Tod to their must-try Pad Kee Mao Chicken—it’s quite the feast.
They’re conveniently located in the heart of Aberdeen, which means they’re easy to go to and a good spot for both locals and tourists. Being so close to the city’s main attractions, like the Aberdeen Maritime Museum and the Aberdeen Art Gallery, only adds to its charm.
On the downside, with this sort of foot traffic around the place, bookings can be challenging. Also, they don’t have a separate menu on their website for vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free options, so you’ll probably have to call or let the staff know when you get there.
But overall, with their attentive staff, they’re actually used to accommodating dietary preferences without a hitch, so don’t hesitate to bring it up.
Staff is really nice
“One of the best, if not the best Thai restaurant in Aberdeen. The food is amazing. I highly recommend the spicy clams. The staff is really nice.”

It was easy to catch how extensive the menu is at Madame Mew’s. They offer a variety of Thai soups, dishes, noodles, and even some house specials—like Madame Mew’s Kung Chao Wang, Madame Mew’s Moo Dad Diaw, etc.—that still give off that genuine Thai vibe.
We also have to give a shoutout to their generous portions. After talking with other customers, we found that their portions are consistent and well-praised.
For instance, mains are priced around £7.50, and the servings are hearty enough to satisfy even those with large appetites.
Another observation worth mentioning is how they value their diners. We’ve heard many customers share how they were pleasantly surprised by little add-ons, like complimentary prawn crackers—it’s those small gestures that make a meal feel more special.
However, you do have to look out for their schedule and peak hours (12 to 2 pm and 6 to 8 pm) since you might have some difficulty in getting a table. Nonetheless, their popularity speaks volumes about how consistent and good their Thai food is.
Great food and nice service staff
“Great food and nice service staff. Chicken satay, almond chicken starters, thai green and red curries, jasmine sticky rice are some recommendations. Would advise to book table in advance especially on weekends. Prices are average and not too expensive considering the great tasting food. Place and ambiance is cool.”

Good portions
“Great food, funny servers who are attentive, and good portions. My meal was extremely tasty and fulfilling, went with a group of friends who all said they enjoyed the experience. The old style tea was a great addition too.”

Royal Thai Restaurant is already well-recognized and was even honoured with the Best Thai Restaurant award at the Aberdeen & Highlands Curry Awards in 2018. This shows their commitment to serving quality and authentic Thai flavours.
Their menu options are diverse and extensive, including sets like banquets and a la carte choices, catering to different tastes and dietary preferences (they’ve got a vegetarian menu, too!). The 20% discount on takeaway is also a nice bonus—great if you’re set on eating at home.
We also found that they’re a popular place for business meetings and corporate events and can cater to up to 150 guests.
For those looking to pair their meal with some alcohol, they also have a nice wine selection. They’ve got the whites, reds, sparklings, champagnes, and even house-special wines.
On the flip side, they’re closed on Sundays and Mondays and have a bit of a wait time during the rush hours. Still, Royal Thai Restaurant is a solid Thai restaurant to try, especially for some wine and dine experience.
Food was nice and authentic
“One of the best Asian dinning place in Scotland! Ordered pork skewers, chicken pad Thai, Paneng beef curry with coconut rice and a Tom Yum soup for two people. Overall the food was nice and authentically Thai although the beef was slightly overdone. Highly recommended and worth trying!”

Chaophraya has quite an innovative menu that involves honouring traditional Thai flavours and introducing them to modern culinary techniques. To give you an idea, their Royal Sous Vide Lamb Massaman Curry features a tender lamb in a rich, spiced coconut sauce.
You can probably tell that the environment is on the elegant and spacious side—the chic interior, contemporary decor, and well-spaced tables are a dead giveaway. We also like that they have private dining rooms, especially if you’re in groups or have a special occasion.
Their dietary options are also a huge plus. They offer a nice selection of vegan and gluten-free dishes to make sure their guests enjoy their meals without having to settle for less or a lousy attempt at inclusion.
The prices might make you think twice, though—since they’re on the higher side. But hey, if you’re looking to splurge or celebrate a special occasion in an elegant environment with traditional and modern Thai cuisine, then Chaophraya is worth considering.
Everything tasted delicious
“The food and drinks were absolutely top-notch, everything tasted delicious and the ambience was perfect with nice background music. I did notice that the service could have been a touch more attentive since we were in a private room, and the wait times for drinks were a bit longer than I’d hoped. However we appreciate the time of year and the main restaurant was extremely busy! Nonetheless, the overall vibe and farewell made it a night to remember. Thank you again”

What a cool spot
“What a cool spot in Aberdeen! Nice to visit a Thai place that felt authentic. The staff were great, the decor was phenomenal and the food tasted so good I ordered more. Got the sharing platter which offered a diverse selection of appetizers and then had a chicken curry dish (extra spicy). So good”
