Gamba in Glasgow is a top-notch seafood restaurant that has been around since 1998. In fact, they were Michelin-recommended in 2023, which speaks to the quality of their dishes.

As soon as we walked in, we were struck by the cosy and refined decor – perfect for a date night or a special occasion.

We also appreciate their commitment to sustainability as seen in their seafood provenance list. This transparency allows customers to know where their food is coming from, and it lists several locally-sourced seafood as well.

Their menu is diverse, including full gluten, dairy, and lactose-free options. This is great for people with strict dietary needs.

We enjoyed their famous fish soup, which was absolutely banging. It had a nice, velvety texture, and its seasoning was on point.

Their king scallops and chicken was also a real belter. The scallops had a slightly sweet and buttery taste, which went down a treat with the smoked chicken.

We also highly-recommend their stone bass tartare dish. It was fresh and delicate, which was perfectly complemented by the creamy goat cheese and zesty tomatoes.

For those who want to go on a date night without breaking the bank, you can try their Surf and Turf deal every Wednesday. For £90, you can enjoy two Scotch fillet steaks with jumbo king prawns, chunky chips, and a bottle of Italian wine. 

Sadly, they’re closed three days a week, so make sure to suss out their opening times before planning a visit. 

Also, since the restaurant is located in a basement, it’s not wheelchair-accessible.

If you’re looking for a seafood feast in Glasgow, then we think Crabshakk is worth a go. The family-run restaurant offers a simple yet revolving menu of fish, crab, and lobster from Scotland’s Western Isles. 

Unlike other restaurants, they welcome walk-ins. Customers don’t need to worry about making a reservation in advance.

Right off the bat, we loved its rustic, laid back vibe. The wooden plank tables and the striking ceiling decor and lighting fixtures add to the restaurant’s overall charm. 

We also clocked that their prices were reasonable compared to other seafood joints in the area, with mains ranging from £12-£30. You won’t need to break the bank to tuck into some proper, tasty seafood grub.

They also offer customised e-gift vouchers, which makes it a great option if you’re looking for a present for someone who loves seafood. 

Moving on to the nosh, we thought the mussels mariniere were spot on. The broth was full of flavour, and the mussels were cooked to a tee.

Additionally, the seared scallops in anchovy butter were a true delight. The combination of buttery scallops and the salty anchovy butter was a match made in heaven.

However, we did have one minor complaint. We thought their tempura squid was a tad too greasy. 

Lastly, the server we had was offish and kept rolling her eyes, which made the dining experience a little uncomfortable. It’s always disappointing when the service doesn’t match the quality of the food.

They’re also closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so make sure to plan your visit accordingly.

If you’re after some posh nosh with an Italian flair, Fat Lobster might be just the ticket. Straight up, we were feeling the high ceilings, fresco-walled bar, and brick walls, which gave the gaff a fancy vibe.

Another bonus is that the restaurant is wheelchair-accessible, unlike some other joints that aren’t up to snuff.

On top of this, they also have an efficient online booking system. This made it easy for us to bag a table for our visit.  

If you’re looking for a good deal, the restaurant offers two-for-one lunch promos, which can help you save a bit of money. 

As for their food, we thought their fish tacos were the real deal. They were cooked to perfection, and the flavours were spot on. 

Their crab cake salad was also a winner. The crab cakes were crispy outside but tender and flavourful inside.

Another dish we recommend is their mussels. The mussels were flawlessly-cooked, and the chive oil added a unique, tasty profile to the dish.

Also, we noticed that the servers were on top of it all, which is truly commendable. They knew the menu inside out and hooked us up with decent recommendations.

However, we thought their lobster roll was a tad greasy, and their half lobster was a bit bland. We’re hoping they can up their game on their lobster dishes, especially since they named their restaurant after this seafood.

Do bear in mind that the restaurant’s closed on Mondays, so do plan your visit accordingly.

Additionally, while the restaurant offers quality dishes, their selection is comparatively limited.

Shucks Seafood Bar and Restaurant is another solid option to satisfy your seafood cravings.

We thought the restaurant was tastefully decorated. We adored its charming coastal vibe that perfectly complements its seafood-focused menu.

Speaking of their menu, they have a changing menu inspired by the Scottish coastline and focuses on seasonal, produce-focused dishes. They also offer a Taste of the Sea tasting menu, which features a wide range of flavours and dishes. 

If you fancy a few bevvies with your grub, they’ve got a champagne bar to boot. It serves artisan beers, champagne, and a carefully curated wine list.

We think they’re a good option for large groups. They offer family feasting, tasting, and a la carte menus for parties of nine or more. 

Additionally, the restaurant’s mezzanine is available for semi-private hire for up to 52 guests.

When it comes to the grub, they didn’t let us down. Their fresh Pacific oysters were the mutt’s nuts – we loved the creamy and meaty texture. 

Their brown butter poached cod was also pure heaven. It had a rich and buttery taste from the brown butter and a mild sweetness from the poached cod.

Unfortunately, the scallops were a bit bland, which was a shame. Additionally, the main dishes can be on the small side, so if you have a hearty appetite, you may want to consider ordering an extra side or two. 

Lastly, the restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, which may be an inconvenience for some diners.

If you’re after a seafood joint in Glasgow with a chilled-out, industrial vibe, then Scamp could be right up your alley.

First, we think they’re a great option if you’re looking to host a large group, or even buy out the whole venue. It could be an ideal choice for birthdays or corporate events. 

We also thought their prices were quite reasonable, ranging from £5 to £17. We think these dishes provide great value for money, especially given the quality of their food.

Additionally, they offer gift vouchers, which are valid for a whole year. So, it’s the perfect gift for a mate or family member who’s into good seafood.

Speaking of good seafood, we thought their focaccia with mussel broth butter was a proper game-changer. It added a rich and savoury seafood flavour to the bread, with a bit of salty tang from the mussels.

The tiger prawns with chipotle and oregano were also spot on. The prawns were juicy, and the chipotle gave a smoky flavour balanced by the oregano. 

And, for those who love a good curry, Scamp’s BBQ monkfish curry with raita was simply amazing. The curry gave subtle heat without being overpowering. 

However, we were disappointed that some of their shrimps were not deveined.

Secondly, they’re closed on Mondays, so you’ll have to plan your visit for another day. 

Finally, it’s worth noting that a discretionary 10% service charge is automatically added to your bill. While this may be standard practice in some establishments, some might not be amenable to this.
