Pros

  • Has 25 years of industry experience
  • Specialises in all aspects of conveyancing
  • Known to show great attention to detail and prompt action
  • Various communication channels: phone, meeting, and e-mail

Cons

  • Minor complaints about poor communication
  • Firm faces strains due to high demand

If you’re on the hunt for a property lawyer with a wealth of experience, it’s worth noting that Kay Barr has been in the legal profession for over the last 25 years.

Since finishing her traineeship at Hughes Dowdall, she has pursued a role as an associate. Afterwhich, she joined Stewarts and Murdochs in 2002.

Finally, she joined Raeside Chisholm Solicitors Limited in 2012 and has been practising at the firm since as a key legal team member.

We think it’s worth highlighting that Barr specialises in all aspects of conveyancing. This includes purchasing and selling residential homes, franchises, and large commercial enterprises.

Hence, she’s a great choice for clients looking for a property with an extensive background, especially with such heavy financial decisions on the way.

It’s great that their accessibility extends to e-mail and phone. In our opinion, this puts clients at ease, knowing that they can easily contact their lawyer.

Many clients we’ve spoken to praised Barr for her attention to detail and prompt action. To clients, this showed her confidence in her abilities, which made them feel that they were in good hands.

But here’s the hitch: given that they’re quite popular, their firm faces a lot of strain due to the high demand. Hence, many clients have complained about poor service in terms of communication.

Pros

  • 30 years of industry experience
  • Specialises in residential sale and purchase transactions
  • Offer flexible appointments
  • Operates on a fixed-fee basis

Cons

  • Office location may pose accessibility issues
  • Quite a small firm

Managing Partner at BK Gill Solicitors, Beljit Kaur Gill graduated from Glasgow University in 1992, specialising in residential sale and purchase transactions.

Even so, Gill is qualified to help clients with concerns about remortgaging, equity release, transfer of title, paying off/discharging the mortgage, and advice on letting, to name a few.

It’s worth noting that she has about 30 years of industry experience. Without a doubt, she’s seen her fair share of several challenges concerning property law that many would find admirable.

Despite only being open from 9 AM to 5 PM on weekdays, we appreciate that they offer flexible appointments. We think this is quite convenient considering that their office isn’t at an ideally central location.

In our opinion, this will greatly benefit clients who cannot physically visit their office, especially due to mobility concerns.

Another pro to this firm is that they operate on a fixed-fee basis. This means that whatever amount is agreed upon during the initial consultation will be the legal fees the client will have to pay.

Did we mention that their initial consultations are free of charge? We think this is a great way to give clients an avenue to talk to a professional about their concerns and view their options moving forward.

Our biggest concern would be that they’re a small firm. Hence, there may be instances wherein there would be too much demand for a 3-person team to handle.

3. Mike Ramsay – Ramsay & Co Solicitors & Estate Agents

Pros

  • 20+ years of industry experience
  • Glasgow native
  • Offer free no-obligation consultations either in-person or via a telephone call
  • Firm is registered to provide legal aid
  • Can provide home visits for clients

Cons

  • Few complaints about unprofessionalism
  • Small practice

What’s great about Mike Ramsay is that he’s a Glasgow local. We find that this gives him the upper edge as he’s well aware of the ins and outs of the Glasgow area.

With that said, he has over 20 years of experience in the legal field after completing his Diploma in Legal Practice from Glasgow University. Afterwhich, he established his own practice, specialising in property law.

We like that Ramsey provides a comprehensive all-in-one service, from giving advice on the market to exchanging keys.

Another great thing about this firm is that they offer free no-obligation consultations either in-person or via a telephone call. In our opinion, this is a great way for clients to discuss their needs without the pressure to begin working right away.

We appreciate that they can arrange home visits for clients, especially the elderly. We think this makes their services more convenient and accessible.

Speaking of accessibility, it’s worth noting that they’re registered to offer Legal Aid by the Scottish Legal Aid Board. So, if you cannot afford legal assistance, this is worth looking into.

Sadly, we did encounter a few complaints about their unprofessionalism. Though we think this could be attributed to the fact that they’re quite a small firm, demand can build up quickly.

Pros

  • 60+ years in the industry
  • Provides an extensive service for individuals, lenders, and businesses
  • Utilises electronic delivery systems so clients can do transactions anywhere
  • Solicitors have been known to be great support systems to their clients

Cons

  • Some issues regarding vague and slow communication
  • Firm faces pressure from high demand

Though not an individual property lawyer, what convinced us to include McVey & Murricane in this list is its wealth of experience and extensive legal services.

For the last 60 years, they’ve shared their property law expertise with individuals, lenders, and businesses for virtually any property transaction.

Hence, it’s clear why many of their former clients we’ve gotten in touch with had many compliments to share about the firm and its solicitors.

In particular, many commended the excellent service, especially the support. We think that this definitely boosts client morale given that the firm acts as their support system.

We were also impressed that 70% of their work comes from outside of the Glasgow area. This is made possible through the efficient utilisation of electronic delivery systems.

We like that this makes their services greatly accessible for clients to conduct transactions anywhere in the world.

Some bad news, though: some of the clients we’ve spoken to shared a few poor experiences due to vague and slow communication.

This is most likely the result of the pressure of significant demand on the firm. Since they’re known for impressive track record, we hope management finds a way to find the right balance to avoid further issues.

Pros

  • Solicitors have at least 50 years of individual experience
  • Adept in all aspects of property law and conveyancing
  • Quick conveyancing quotes
  • Free in-person and over-the-phone consultations
  • Have a dedicated Property Team

Cons

  • Some complaints of slow processes
  • Some issues regarding poor communication

What we like about Jones Whyte is that they have a team dedicated to handling all property law-related services. Each team member has an individual experience of over 50 years in all aspects of property law and conveyancing.

It’s also great that expertise encompasses a number of services. These include property development, leasing, surveys and home reports, remortgages, and conveyancing, among others.

Being based in Glasgow, we think they’re a great choice for any property transactions across the city since they understand the market well.

For potential clients that are in a hurry, we like that they provide conveyancing quotes as quick as 24 hours. All you need to do is answer a brief survey on their website and wait for your personalised quote.

We also think it’s worth taking them up on their free consultations. This can be done both over the phone and in person at their office.

In our opinion, this definitely helps make their services more accessible to interested clients. This also provides their clients with a brief understanding of how Jones Whyte’s solicitors can be of assistance.

However, we found their communication to be a bit lacking as we’ve received word about slow processes and difficulty contacting them.
