5 Best Pharmacy Services in Glasgow

  • Pharmacy Service – We assessed the quality and selection of pharmacy services offered by each establishment. This will help customers to identify the pharmacies that can effectively cater to their specific requirements.
  • Experience – Their years of experience were also measured to assure customers of their familiarity with medical prescriptions.
  • Availability – We considered the importance of accessibility when it comes to prescription supplies. Therefore, we evaluated their promptness in addressing customer needs and their extended operating hours.

Pros

  • Free repeat prescription collection service
  • Free delivery for customers who have mobility issues
  • Provides confidential healthcare advice and travel advice
  • Access to emergency hormonal contraception
  • Flu vaccinations

Cons

  • Closed on Sundays
  • Reports of pharmacists displaying rude behaviour

Abbey Chemist provides a convenient and free repeat prescription collection service. This allows customers to delegate the task of collecting prescriptions from local surgeries to the pharmacy.

Additionally, for customers who are physically unable to visit the pharmacy due to age, disability, or illness, Abbey Chemist offers a delivery service for all medical supplies. We highly appreciate this since not all pharmacies offer this service.

Abbey Chemist stands out for their comprehensive travel advice service, even directing customers to other agencies that can offer more specific and detailed guidance if necessary.

Moreover, they offer access to emergency hormonal contraception, commonly known as the “morning after pill.” This important contraceptive option is available with or without a prescription, which is great for emergencies.

Additionally, Abbey Chemist has trained pharmacists available to administer flu vaccinations within the pharmacy for any individual over 18 years of age. This makes them a great go-to for this yearly jab to keep nasty flus at bay.

On the downside, they’re closed on Sundays. This may be inconvenient for customers who require immediate pharmacy services or have urgent medication needs on that day.

Also, we heard reports of pharmacists displaying rude behaviour, which can negatively impact the overall customer experience.

Pros

  • Online promos and seasonal deals
  • Online prescription stock checker
  • Prescription text message service
  • Free NHS winter flu jab service
  • Boots Advantage Card loyalty program
  • Corporate flu vaccination service

Cons

  • Closed on Mondays and Sundays
  • Free home delivery option only in England

We think Boots Pharmacy offers several advantages that make it a popular choice among customers.

Firstly, they provide online promos and seasonal deals. We think this can be a cost-effective way for individuals to purchase their healthcare essentials.

Unlike other pharmacies, they have an online prescription stock checker. This convenient tool enabled us to check the availability of our prescribed medications.

The Boots prescription text message service is also quite useful. We were happy to receive a text notification when our prescription was ready, eliminating the need for unnecessary waiting or follow-up calls.

For those eligible, Boots Pharmacy provides a free NHS winter flu jab, which is highly convenient.

The Boots Advantage Card loyalty program also allows customers to collect points for every £1 spent at Boots Pharmacy.

Furthermore, Boots Pharmacy offers corporate flu vaccination service. This goes to show how reliable they are: businesses can trust them to handle their employees’ yearly jabs.

On the downside, Boots Pharmacy is closed on Mondays and Sundays, meaning they’re only open 5 days a week.

Additionally, we were disappointed to learn that their free home delivery option for prescriptions ordered online is currently limited to customers within England.

Pros

  • Allergy Test ‘n’ Treat
  • Comprehensive NHS services
  • Offers an asthma inhaler recycling service
  • Has a gluten free food service
  • Has a needle exchange service

Cons

  • Occasional reports of delayed test results
  • Comparatively pricier test kits

Reach Pharmacy, located in the bustling heart of Finnieston and only a short walk from the SSE Hydro, provides great service to the local community.

One of their standout services is the Allergy Test ‘n’ Treat, available at their Argyle Street branch. They can identify over 280 different allergens, which is great not just for curious adults, but for kids with parents that have a history of allergies.

Unlike some other pharmacies, Reach Pharmacy provides comprehensive NHS services. This includes prescription collection/delivery, medication management, and stop smoking support.

We love that Reach Pharmacy offers specialised programs to cater to specific needs. For instance, they have an asthma inhaler recycling service, which promotes environmentally-friendly practices by properly disposing of used inhalers.

Additionally, their gluten free food service caters to individuals with dietary restrictions, providing a convenient option for this specific patient segment.

Another notable service is their needle exchange, which aims to promote safe and responsible disposal of needles. This plays a crucial role in harm reduction and preventing the spread of infections.

That said, there have been occasional reports of delayed test results, which apparently caused inconvenience for some customers. In addition, we found their test kits to be relatively more expensive compared to other providers.

Pros

  • 40 years of experience
  • Independent family ownership
  • Order, collect, and even deliver prescriptions
  • 24-hour prescription collection service
  • Minor ailments service
  • Stop smoking service
  • Emergency hormonal contraception

Cons

  • Reports of unhelpful staff
  • Closes early on Saturdays and closed on Sundays

Garscadden Pharmacy, an establishment serving the area for over 40 years, recently returned to independent family ownership, which we love. This brings a renewed focus on personalised service and meeting the needs of the local community.

We appreciate that they offer the option to order, collect, and even deliver prescriptions straight to your door.

Their new 24-hour prescription collection service also provides flexibility for customers to collect their prescriptions at any time. This will be extremely useful in situations where a prescription is urgently needed outside their operating hours.

Garscadden Pharmacy also provides a minor ailments service, offering free treatment and advice for minor illnesses without the need for a doctor’s appointment – no more queuing at the GP clinic!

Garscadden Pharmacy also offers a range of other specialized healthcare services. For instance, they provide a stop smoking service to support individuals in their journey to quit smoking.

They also offer emergency hormonal contraception to let customers have access to this important form of contraception when needed.

Like other pharmacies, there have been occasional reports of unhelpful staff. It’s important to note that individual experiences may vary – but hopefully, improvements have already been made since those reports.

Also, they close earlier on Saturdays and they’re also closed on Sundays, so plan your trips accordingly.

Pros

  • Free delivery service for prescription medication and orders over £20
  • Weight loss management service
  • Vaccination services
  • Ear wax removal service

Cons

  • Late deliveries
  • Unfriendly staff

Rightdose Pharmacy is a trusted healthcare provider serving communities in Scotland for over a decade. They’re known for their personalised services and commitment to delivering quality healthcare solutions to their customers.

We like that they offer free delivery for prescription medication and orders over £20. This convenient service allows customers to receive their medications directly at their doorstep, saving them time and effort.

Rightdose Pharmacy also has its own in-store clinic focusing on weight loss management. Their tailored weight loss treatment plan starts at a reasonable £55 per month, which is great for those who are looking to be on the healthier end of the scale.

They also provide various vaccination services. These include HPV vaccinations for individuals aged 9-45, flu vaccinations, pneumonia vaccinations, and Hajj & Umrah vaccinations for those planning to travel to Saudi Arabia.

Rightdose Pharmacy even offers an ear wax removal service for those experiencing discomfort or hearing issues due to excess earwax.

Unfortunately, there have been some instances of late deliveries. And when we went there, we encountered some unfriendly staff members, which gave us the cold shoulder.

This was a bit off-putting, as we think it’s essential for a pharmacy to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for customers.
