Pros

  • Known for their modern cutting and colouring techniques
  • Complimentary consultation
  • Uses industry-leading brands
  • Offers a 10% student discount

Cons

  • Reports of abrupt cancellations
  • Stylist was a bit slow

We decided to step into 281 Hair in Glasgow since we were enticed by their reputation for modern cutting and colouring techniques.

Firstly, we were happy to receive a complimentary consultation. It was a delightful gesture that ensures we’re on the same page as the stylist before any scissors come into play.

For this salon, one of our team members chose to have a simple shampoo, cut, and blow dry. The results were impressive, and it’s clear that their experience and skill shine through in each snip of the scissors and sweep of the brush.

We think they take their commitment to quality seriously, especially when it comes to the products they use. For instance, they’ve got a lineup of industry-leading brands like L’Oréal Professionnel, Milkshake, Olaplex, and Wella.

For all the students out there, rejoice! 281 Hair offers a generous 10% student discount, making their services more accessible to those on a tighter budget.

Sadly, we heard about abrupt cancellations the night before the actual schedule. We think this is quite an inconvenience for those who juggled their schedules around for the appointment.

Another slight setback we noticed was the overall pace of the service. A seemingly simple shampoo, cut, and blow dry took almost two hours to complete while this same service can be done in just one hour in other salons.

While we appreciate the attention to detail, we couldn’t help but feel that the process could have been a tad more streamlined, especially for those with busy schedules.

Pros

  • Established over a decade ago
  • The Scottish Hair And Beauty Awards Ladies Stylist of the Year 2011
  • Superb colour services
  • Friendly and knowledgeable stylists
  • Also offers nail, massage, and intimate waxing services

Cons

  • Closed on Tuesdays and Sundays
  • Reports of their keratin treatment potentially drying out hair

In our pursuit of fabulous hair, we also visited Hair In The City, which boasts an impressive track record, having established itself over a decade ago.

We discovered that this salon is a real winner, bagging the prestigious title of The Scottish Hair And Beauty Awards Ladies Stylist of the Year 2011. It seems they truly know how to make heads turn!

Upon our visit, a team member had the pleasure of trying out their colour services, and let me tell you, the experience was smashing!

The stylist was not only friendly but also incredibly patient and professional. They took the time to understand her hair aspirations and provided sound advice, resulting in a stunning colour that exceeded our expectations.

For those looking to pamper themselves from head to toe, the salon also offers a range of additional services to pamper and beautify. Talk about a one-stop-shop for all your self-care needs!

Those who fancy a facial, a bit of intimate waxing, or a fresh set of nails, they’ve got you covered. And for those in need of a little relaxation, their massage services will whisk you away to a world of tranquillity.

Unfortunately, it is closed on Tuesdays and Sundays. So, if you fancy a hair transformation on those particular days, you’ll need to plan accordingly.

Additionally, there have been some reports of their keratin treatment potentially drying out hair. We think it’s always wise to communicate your concerns to stylists, who can tailor the treatment to suit your hair’s unique needs.

Pros

  • Creates bespoke styles that truly embrace their main philosophy
  • Informal, fun, and inclusive environment
  • Excellent Brazilian Keratin treatment services
  • Friendly and warm staff
  • Offers bridal and makeup services

Cons

  • Closed on Mondays and Sundays
  • Comparatively pricier

For avid seekers of stylish locks, Belle & Blackley would be another solid choice. It prides itself on creating bespoke styles that truly embrace their main philosophy: the freedom of individual expression.

Beyond its staff’s exceptional hairstyling skills, the salon also offers an informal, fun, and inclusive environment. Our team member described the ambiance as a safe space where you can kick back, relax, and let your hair down (quite literally!).

She had the pleasure of trying out their transformative Brazilian Keratin treatment, and boy, was it a game-changer! The results were undeniable—soft, shiny, and luscious locks that frankly, we were jealous of.

During our visit, we couldn’t help but notice the genuine warmth and friendliness of the entire staff. They made us feel like old pals, engaging in casual chit chat that put smiles on our faces.

To add to their repertoire, they also offer bridal and makeup services. So, if you’re preparing for the big day or simply want to glam up for a special occasion, they’ve got your back.

Do note that they’re closed on both Mondays and Sundays. So, if you’re planning for a hair transformation on those particular days, you might have to adjust your schedule a bit.

Another point to consider is the pricing. Belle & Blackley’s cut and style service is comparatively pricier at £75, while other salons may offer it at a lower price of £40.

However, keep in mind that their expertise, personalised approach, and the overall experience might just make it worth the extra bob or two.

Pros

  • Fresh, modern, and bright space
  • Scottish Hair and Beauty awards 2015’s ‘Hair Salon Of the Year’ finalist
  • Diligently studies advances in the field
  • Comparatively more affordable pricing

Cons

  • Closed on Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays
  • More limited range of services

Another Glasgow hair salon we visited is Ashley Bitters Hairdressing. Upon stepping inside, we immediately adored their fresh, modern, and bright space that exuded an airy ambiance.

We also learned that they were finalists for ‘Hair Salon Of the Year’ at the esteemed Scottish Hair and Beauty awards back in 2015. This recognition speaks volumes about their dedication to delivering exceptional hair experiences.

Upon further digging, we found that they diligently study advances in the field, ensuring they are always up to date with contemporary techniques.

One of their standout features is their pocket-friendly pricing. A team member had a cut & blow dry, and it only set us back £24, which is a steal considering the quality of service she received.

During our visit, we were also greeted with a lovely experience from start to finish. The staff were not only welcoming but also highly professional.

Ashley, the stylist assigned to our tester, took the time to listen, resulting in a great cut that left our tester feeling fabulous. When a hairstylist genuinely cares about your vision and goes the extra mile to deliver, you know you’re in good hands.

Sadly, they’re closed on Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays. You’d need to book well in advance in order to secure a slot.

Another point to consider is that they have a comparatively more limited range of services. However, when it comes to their main focus, which is delivering exceptional cuts and styles, we think they really do excel.

Pros

  • Independent salon
  • Fully-equipped premises
  • Affordable services
  • Highly recommended balayage/ombre, cut & finish package
  • 10% student discount on Tuesdays and Wednesdays

Cons

  • Closed on both Sundays and Mondays
  • A surcharge may apply for those with long or thick hair

Another long-established gem that we visited was Chesne Hair, an independent salon that is deeply rooted in Glasgow’s hair scene.

In a world where hair expenses can escalate like a runaway train, we think it’s refreshing to find a salon that offers quality service without breaking the bank. Their pricing structure makes it accessible to a wider audience.

If you’re the spontaneous type, you’ll be delighted to know that Chesne Hair welcomes walk-ins. So, if you suddenly find yourself longing for a fabulous new look, you can simply saunter into their salon and let their talented stylists work their magic.

We tried their balayage/ombre, cut & finish service, which is an absolute steal. Priced at only £90, compared to the industry standard of £180 in other salons, it offers remarkable value for money.

Plus, we were pleased with their stunning results. Our tester was mesmerised by the beautiful transformation she underwent.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, they offer a generous 10% student discount. So, whether you’re juggling exams or lectures, Chesne Hair ensures that fabulous hair doesn’t have to be an expensive affair.

Unfortunately, they’re closed on both Sundays and Mondays. Remember, even hair maestros need a day or two to recharge!

Another point to consider is that a surcharge may apply for those with long or thick hair. It’s important to note that additional time and effort may be required for longer or thicker locks.
