How We Reviewed

Methodological Standards:

We scrutinized the training philosophies of every professional to ensure they rely entirely on reward-based techniques.

It’s vital that your companion learns through positive reinforcement rather than fear or outdated dominance methods.

Handler Education:

We evaluated how effectively each program coaches the human half of the leash equation. A truly excellent coach gives you practical tools and clear body language guidance to maintain success at home.

Environmental Safety:

We assessed the physical locations where these sessions take place, checking for secure fences and controlled stress levels.

Safe, low-arousal environments allow anxious or young dogs to focus and absorb new behaviors easily.

Scheduling Adaptability:

We analyzed the structure of the packages to see how well they accommodate busy working professionals. Flexible session setups ensure that even time-poor owners can access high-quality behavioral support consistently.

Contact: 07780990759

Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 2–8:30 pm; Saturday, Sunday 9:30 am–4 pm

Stepping into a calm environment can completely transform how a sensitive pet learns to navigate the world.

Alba Dogs focuses heavily on Animal Centred Education (ACE) and unique Free Work, giving dogs the freedom to explore at their own pace without pressure. For dogs that are fit and well, ACE Free Work and Tellington TTouch sessions provide a calm, enriching environment that supports relaxation, confidence, and emotional balance.

They also offer gentle, hands-on therapies such as Tellington TTouch and Emmett Therapy, a complementary approach designed to support a dog’s wellbeing alongside veterinary care where appropriate.

Because all sessions are conducted on a one-to-one basis, dogs can learn without the distractions and stress that often come with busy group classes.

Owners who find walks challenging can also benefit from the exclusive Walking Together membership, which provides ongoing guidance and a supportive community.

If a dog is currently receiving veterinary treatment, recovering from surgery, or experiencing an injury, pain, or physical discomfort, veterinary consent is required before beginning Emmett Therapy sessions. This thoughtful approach helps ensure every dog receives appropriate care while working alongside any existing veterinary treatment.

Pros

  • Entirely force-free methods
  • Exclusive 1-to-1 sessions
  • Unique indoor sensory walks
  • Qualified emotional regulation support

Cons

  • Prior veterinary consent required

Could see his confidence growing before my eyes

Pauline is fantastic, my dog Zero is scared meeting new people but took to Pauline straight away. He had his first ACE free work session and I can’t believe how much we have both gained from it already! I could see his confidence growing before my eyes and I drove home with a chilled dog happily watching the world go by out the window instead of the usual crazed barking! We will be back very soon!

Learn how to help our dogs in a safe, clean and relaxing environment

My dog loves his experiences with Pauline at Alba Dogs, where it’s emmet, t-touch, ace freework or a sensory experience.  He loves it all, he will gravitate towards Pauline for some touching relief and positions himself to show and allow her to provide him with the touch he seeks.

It’s wonderful as an owner to watch and learn how to help our dogs in a safe, clean and relaxing environment.

Keep on keeping on Pauline xxx

Tackling behavioral issues right where they happen is often the fastest route to a peaceful household.

Barkwrights Dog and Puppy Training brings the esteemed Clever Dog Company Method to the local region, focusing entirely on ethical, reward-based training.

When I watched a friend’s home session with them, I noticed how quickly the bespoke, one-to-one attention helped the puppy settle down.

They have clear, tiered packages from Bronze up to Diamond, targeting essential household manners like polite lead walking and door control.

However, their larger premium packages are built around quite rigid schedules, forcing you to fit multiple appointments into a brief three-week window. This rapid timeline can become difficult to manage if your professional calendar is already packed.

Pros

  • Flexible tiered pricing
  • Convenient in-home training
  • Practical household manners focus
  • Useful progress handouts included

Cons

  • Rigid package timelines
  • Difficult for erratic schedules

Hours: Monday –  Friday 9 am–9 pm; Saturday 9 am–1 pm

Helping an anxious pet cope with real-world triggers requires a deep understanding of complex canine psychology.

Awesome Paws Academy is led by a certified behaviorist who focuses specifically on severe canine anxiety and reactive behaviors like lunging or barking.

They run fascinating Scenthound classes that channel your pet’s natural sniffing instincts into focused, confidence-building games.

And I love that their modern methods avoid punishment entirely, offering flexible training options designed to fit around a busy work schedule.

On the downside, because their focus leans heavily into intense behavioral modification, this program might be far more than you need for simple, everyday obedience commands.

All standard appointments also take place at your home address, meaning you won’t have access to a dedicated external training grounds facility.

Pros

  • Punishment-free reactive training
  • Confidence-building scentwork classes
  • Covers all life stages
  • Highly flexible appointment times

Cons

  • Overkill for basic training
  • Lacks a central facility

I’m so pleased with the remarkable progress my dog has made in a few sessions.  The expertise in handling aggression has been evident from the start.  My dog is already showing positive changes in behaviour, and I feel much more hopeful.  Denise’s approach is both effective and compassionate, creating a comfortable learning environment. I highly recommend this trainer to anyone facing any challenges with their dog. Denise’s was there to help anytime I needed her not only during sessions helping ne feel very supported

Quality dog training

We had a fantastic experience with Awesome Paws Academy while training our mini schnauzer, Harris. Denise is incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, and professional. She didn’t just help train our dog—they helped us better understand him, too. We’re so grateful for her guidance and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality dog training.

Giving high-energy breeds a constructive outlet can prevent a massive amount of mischief around the house.

The Working Puppy Company adapts traditional working gundog methods for family pets, utilizing an exclusive, floodlit paddock and expansive farm ground for outdoor lessons.

Their experienced team runs around ten group classes every week, giving you plenty of opportunities to build strong socialization skills.

They place an immense focus on teaching you the correct handling mechanics and body language to ensure clear communication.

However, multiple local clients have raised serious red flags regarding the harsh physical handling methods used during some of these sessions.

Some have experienced instances of trainers using force to push dogs into a sit, yelling during mistakes, and utilizing heavy lead corrections that left pets visibly shaken.

Pros

  • Secure floodlit outdoor paddock
  • Numerous weekly group classes
  • Strong handler mechanics focus
  • Practical real-world competitive experience

Cons

  • Reports of forceful handling

Barbara (our trainer) was so knowledgeable and brilliant

Can’t speak highly enough of our classes at WPC. As a new dog owner I was completely clueless but knew that I wanted an alternative to endlessly feeding my puppy treats in return for good behaviour. It was a joy to meet other dog owners and their puppies and to participate in the group classes, yet with tonnes of individual advice. Barbara (our trainer) was so knowledgable and brilliant. Full of tips and tricks that actually worked, inspirational to watch in action and flexible in tailoring her advice to our individual circumstances.

Really enjoyable training sessions

Really enjoyable training sessions.

They are knowledgeable, patient, approachable and understanding to inividual needs whilst still teaching in a group environment.

My only wish was that we had started the training earlier, in the younger group!

Address: Aberdeen & Shire (In-home behavioral visits)

Contact: WhatsApp/Text: 07823 635596 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday – Friday 9 am–8 pm; Sunday 9 am–5 pm

Providing your pet with structured mental stimulation does wonders for their overall behavior and focus.

The K9 Camp offers unique Pet Gundog group classes that allow standard family pets to enjoy specialized field activities without any traditional hunting background.

During my direct consultation with their head coach, I truly appreciated the straightforward, jargon-free teaching style used to explain complex habits.

They take a holistic approach to animal care by blending certified behavioral training with deep canine nutrition expertise to address underlying diet issues.

Just keep in mind that they focus almost entirely on outdoor field sessions and personalized home visits. This specific setup means you’ll have to brave the elements since they don’t have a climate-controlled indoor training hall.

Pros

  • Localized in-home behavior support
  • Accessible pet gundog activities
  • Direct jargon-free coaching style
  • Integrated canine nutrition guidance

Cons

  • No indoor training facility
  • Vulnerable to bad weather

Everyone gets so much attention and advice depending on what we need

highly recommend Patricia’s classes, joined with our then,  7 month working cocker at the beginners group, wasn’t quite ready to step up to the assessment and the next block but Patricia has tailored an in-between level which has been great.  learning lots and although we’re in a group class everyone gets so much attention and advice depending on what we need.  For anyone looking for training and advice to have a happy, obedient dog, and be a confident owner then Patricia is your trainer!

Has helped us immensely

If anyone is looking for a dog trainer either group lessons or 1-1 I can’t recommend Patricia at The K9 Camp enough. We started with 1-1 sessions then move to a group session for beginners and we have now progressed to the novice class. She has helped us immensely with Milo and the hard work is beginning to show.
