Pros

  • Multi-awarded family-fun business
  • Over 20 years in the industry
  • No unnecessary chitchats
  • Rates are affordable
  • Option to choose preferred therapist
  • Offers several membership options
  • Open daily

Cons

  • Gets booked up fast
  • Some instances of booking mishaps

Founded in 1999, the Sleeping Beauty Salon is a multi-awarded family-run business originally from Lerwick Shetland. Since becoming a booming business in 2006, they’ve expanded across Scotland with several spas nationwide.

One of our favourite things about this spa is they offer a wide selection of services, from nails to spray tans. So, they’re a great one-stop option for a full day of pampering.

Among their services, what stood out to us the most were their facials and massages, which we’ve heard are out of this world. It’s no wonder many past customers shared that they’ve fallen asleep during sessions.

We also love their hands-on therapists, who, apart from being highly skilled, are incredibly professional and friendly.

It’s also worth mentioning that they don’t force conversations, which we think is great for those that dislike chitchat.

Based on our observations, this made the overall experience all the more relaxing. This is because clients get to focus on enjoying the treatment.

Another plus is that their fees are quite competitive. In our opinion, their rates are affordable for their value.

It’s an added convenience that they have an online booking system. For extra discerning clients, it’s a treat that you get to select your preferred therapist, too.

Since they’re quite popular, you may want to book an appointment in advance as slots can fill up quickly. On the plus side, they’re open daily to accommodate the demand.

When experiencing an influx of clients, their staff can get a tad flustered, sometimes resulting in booking mishaps.

On the bright side, they offer several membership options with exclusive perks. In our opinion, this helps make their services a tad more affordable.

Pros

  • Offers several affordable packages and offers
  • Has 3 branches in Edinburgh
  • Facilities are spacious and relaxing
  • Option to choose preferred therapist
  • Open daily
  • Has a loyalty scheme

Cons

  • Often fully booked
  • Several complaints of booking mishaps
  • Services are quite pricey

Known as one of the best spas in the country, PURE Spa & Beauty has an extensive array of treatment options, from massages to facials.

They also offer packages that suit all budgets with half-day to overnight options. To boot, they have a variety of limited-time offers worth exploring for those looking for a good deal.

Even so, we must admit that while their services are top-notch, their prices are quite steep.

On the plus side, they accept a variety of payment methods. These include Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, GooglePay, and ApplePay, among others.

With 3 branches in Edinburgh, it’s unlikely you haven’t crossed paths with their name. This also means you can easily visit whichever site is closest to your residence.

However, this is also a tell-tale sign of the high demand they have to satisfy. We were saddened to hear of customers experiencing multiple booking mishaps, from technical failures to last-minute cancellations.

Though, we appreciate that their staff has reached out to the affected parties to remedy these problems.

We have to give it to them in terms of stellar spa facilities, which are aesthetically decorated and relaxing.

It’s also great that their facilities can accommodate many customers in a single session. For instance, their nail bar seats 10 individuals comfortably.

As an additional perk, they also have a loyalty scheme which rewards returning customers with points and exclusive offers.

We also like the convenience of their online booking system, as you can schedule an appointment anywhere at any time. Customers can also choose their preferred therapist, which is always a welcome plus.

Pros

  • Employs a holistic approach to wellness
  • Practices are inspired by Eastern Balinese and Ayurvedic traditions
  • Operates in a strict vegan, organic, natural, and cruelty-free way
  • Offers complimentary consultations for selected treatments
  • Reasonably priced
  • Option to select therapist when booking

Cons

  • Slots fill up quickly
  • Appointment-only on Sundays

What we love most about Sentu Wellness is that they bring healing to a whole new level. Unlike most spas, they don’t simply focus on physical relief, but also on mental and emotional wellbeing, employing a holistic approach to wellness.

Among their selection, their Wellness Treatments caught our eye given that we have yet to see these in other spas.

Here, they offer services related to nutrition, fitness, babyfit (for mum and baby), fertility fitness, counselling, reiki, reflexology, and mindfulness.

As for their other services, such as facials, we like that they offer complimentary consultations. This way, their treatments are tailored to your liking.

It’s noteworthy that their treatments and therapies are inspired by Eastern Balinese and Ayurvedic traditions. Apart from that, they operate in a strict vegan, organic, natural, and cruelty-free way.

Another great plus is that their services are reasonably priced. So, it didn’t surprise us that many of their customers are regulars, especially given the high quality.

Given their popularity, you can expect their slots to fill up quickly. Hence, we suggest booking in advance to secure a spot.

From the moment we set foot inside, we were welcomed with friendly and professional service. Several of their former clients that we’ve gotten in touch with shared the same sentiments, saying that their staff’s customer service did not disappoint.

For those with a favourite therapist, it’s worth noting that you can select your preferred therapist via their booking system.

While they’re open Mondays through Saturdays, keep in mind that they’re on an appointment-only basis on Sundays. So, best not to forget to schedule an appointment.

Pros

  • 10+ years in the industry
  • May select preferred therapist
  • Open daily
  • Therapists known to have gentle hands
  • Competitively priced

Cons

  • Limited selection of services offered
  • A few therapists being difficult to book due to popularity

The Secret Beauty Garden was established in 2009 as the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

While their selection of services is considerably less than its competitors, we think many clients return here because of their professional and attentive staff.

Those we’ve spoken to praised their technicians for having gentle hands and giving clients exactly what they’re looking for. In our opinion, this is essential, especially when working with nails, lashes, and eyebrows.

As for their massages, we thought their therapists were spot-on in relieving tension. Given how relaxed we were, it’s as if we floated out of the spa.

Many of their past customers we’ve interviewed shared similar experiences, with several claiming that they fell asleep during sessions.

We also think their services are competitively priced, especially for their value. So, you won’t have to feel guilty about treating yourself.

The place itself was incredibly calming and decorated beautifully. On our visit, it was spotless, which we were happy to see.

As for booking, clients can easily do so via their booking platform to view any openings.

They can also select their preferred therapist, to boot. However, a few of their staff are fan favourites, so finding an open slot may be challenging.

On the brighter side, they’re open daily, which increases the likelihood of their availability.

Pros

  • Provides a short complimentary massage after their mani-pedis and facials
  • Employs traditional Thai masseuses
  • Open daily
  • Reasonably priced
  • Accepts multiple payment methods
  • Highly-skilled and sought-after therapists

Cons

  • Limited selection of services offered
  • Appointment-only on Sundays
  • Several complaints of technical booking issues
  • No openings until 2023

Another popular day spa frequented by locals and tourists alike is the White Orchid. While we did find their selection of services a bit lacking, we think it’s the quality that brings people back here.

In fact, they don’t have openings available until 2023. Though an inconvenience, to us, this is representative of how sought-after their services are.

Specifically, they’re well-known for their immersive facial treatments and mani-pedis. To top it off, they come with a quick complimentary massage, which we think was definitely a teaser for the actual service.

This place is different from the others because they employ traditional Thai masseuses. Needless to say, you can expect an authentic massage experience here.

With these in mind, it was great to see that their prices were incredibly affordable. Hence, it’s no surprise that many return weekly for a relaxing session.

An added convenience is that since they’re located at Haymarket, they’re easily accessible via tram and bus. To boot, the spa itself has a relaxing and cosy atmosphere.

We should warn you, though, that while they have an online booking system in place, there have been instances wherein these appointments weren’t reflected in the shop’s system.

Unfortunately, several customers have been inconvenienced by this technical issue. So, we hope that their management addresses these soon, especially since they’re often packed.

On the plus side, they accept several payment methods, such as Visa, Mastercard, and ApplePay.

While it’s great that they’re operational Mondays through Saturdays, it’s important to note that they’re on an appointment-only basis on Sundays.
