A beloved takeaway spot nestled in South St, Sen Lin is a popular hidden gem known for its authentic flavors and generous portions. Hence, it’s no surprise that many of its loyal followers will attest to its flavor-packed menu with a dish for every mood.

When I’m craving a warm, home-style welcome, I always find myself coming back for their chicken chow mein, spare ribs, and crispy duck. And of course, best believe I’m ordering some sides to go with all of that, whether it be spring rolls or prawn crackers, both hit the spot.

Their set meals and combo platters are brilliant too, offering great value for money for larger portions, or when you fancy a bit of everything. 

Pro Tip: Be sure to collect stamps during your visit. When you reach 10 stamps, you’ll receive  a £5 reward!

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about Chinese food, it’s that it always tastes best when made in a family-run restaurant. That’s where the heart and flavor shine. And Jade Garden is just that. 

Having been passed down for three generations for over 30 years, you can definitely taste the legacy in each bite, whether it be simple appetizers like their lettuce wraps or their crispy roast duck with plum sauce. 

My ultimate recommendation? Their soups. Regardless of which you choose, the broth is bursting with flavor and hearty with plenty of add-ins, think tender meat, fresh vegetables, and all the good stuff that makes each spoonful deeply satisfying.

If you’re looking for an authentic blend of Chinese, Cantonese, and Thai dishes, then you’ve come to the right place. A local favorite for its unique blend of Asian flavors, it’s the go-to of many craving traditional dishes with a bit of Scottish chip shop flair.

Dishes like their sweet and sour chicken, beef curry, and king prawn chow mein are staples in my order. Though, it won’t be complete without dessert. To get the best of both worlds, get their mixed fritters to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Another dish they do right are fish and chips, found at their chip shop menu. While not Chinese in any way, I feel like it goes well with their noodles and chow mein.

Pro Tip: There’s plenty of street parking, both paid and free, nearby.

A longstanding Chinese restaurant that has an extensive menu of Chinese favourites like deep fried crispy wontons, sweet and sour chicken, various stir-fry options. There’s even a dedicated vegan menu, and even European options for those after something a little different.

Now, while I don’t handle my spice well, I cannot resist their deep fried crispy chicken with chilli sauce. And if that doesn’t tell you something, I don’t know what will. 

Well, maybe their king prawn chow mein will. Trust me, you’ll find yourself picking up a fork with how fast you want to tuck in. And don’t skip the soup. It’s like a warm hug in a bowl, rich in flavorful broth and loaded with hearty ingredients, perfect for the gloomy weather.
