The 5 Best Car Dealership Companies in Edinburgh

The 5 Best Car Dealership Companies in Edinburgh

How We Chose

Inventory

Customers might be looking for anything from new, barely used, to used autos. A proper dealership should offer plenty of options and have accurate information about the models they have in stock.

Expertise

You’ll want to choose a dealership with a solid business philosophy and staff that are well-equipped to help you find a vehicle suitable to your wants and needs.

Customer Satisfaction

A car dealership must be able to provide customer satisfaction, cultivate long-term relationships with customers, and garner satisfactory reviews.

Price Options

It’s also important to look at what kind of financing these car dealerships offer, and to check if their prices are well worth their services and products.

Pros

  • Good selection of cars, specialty in high-end
  • Staff are helpful and not pushy
  • Offers a variety of additional services

Cons

  • Pricier than the usual dealership
  • Aftersales services are not superb despite high prices

Prestige Motor Co is a family-run business conveniently located in Sighthill, Edinburgh. It’s only a five-minute walk from the Edinburgh Park train station and 2 miles from Edinburgh Airport, which we find quite convenient.

Prestige, as their name suggests, hosts a range of luxury, 4×4, and high-end marques such as Audi, Bentley, BMW, Land Rover, Jaguar, and Saab. They always have at least a hundred cars in stock, ready to be viewed in person or via live video viewing.

They also offer a variety of maintenance services including servicing, repairs including MOTs, alloy wheel refurbishment, bodywork repair, and delivery services. If you’re also looking to exchange some auto parts or sell your car, they also cater to that as well.

That said, the cars that they buy and sell are handpicked, which is why they have gotten quite high reviews on average. We also like that they let you test drive their vehicles on your route of choice.

This car dealership company is not the most economical option – prices are around £1000 higher than regular rates. This could be due to the fact that they have plenty of high-end offerings that are harder to procure.

Moreover, their aftersales can be hit-or-miss, as some clients have reported poor communication from the dealership’s end. Of course, clients with vehicle issues will have to endure this much more than those with functional cars.

Prestige Motor Co is still a great dealership to work with, provided customers exercise caution and carefully examine autos to avoid any aftersales hassle. It’s also a great company to purchase range rovers from, as it is one of their most bought units.

2. Waterfront Motor Company

Pros

  • Great customer service and attention to detail
  • Accessible to those based in West Harbour
  • Diligent aftersales services

Cons

  • Relatively smaller company
  • Only 50+ cars available for viewing
  • Closed Sundays

If you’re aiming for a car dealership that offers great customer service and attention to detail, then the Waterfront Motor Company might be for you. They are a smaller company, so they value each client and tend to their needs well.

Going to their site in West Harbour is a bit of a trip, so Waterfront Motor Company isn’t quite as accessible as others. However, this can be a benefit to those who live around the area, since most other companies are in the city’s centre.

This dealership has a wide selection of vehicles ranging from BMWs, Land Rovers, Volkswagens, Audis, and more budget-friendly ones from brands such as Nissan, Hyundai, and Ford, among others.

They have over 50 cars available for viewing, and they are also open to purchasing cars. Moreover, most customers are entitled to a one-year warranty and service from their garage, and we’ve found that they honour this very diligently.

Waterfront Motor Company has also received impressive reviews online – but because they’re a smaller company, this is to be taken with a grain of salt. They also don’t have as many autos for sale as other options in our list, so finding rarer ones is more difficult.

Still, if you’re someone who doesn’t like pushy salesmen that are common to bigger car dealerships, you might want to go for Waterfront Motor Company. They are an approachable and helpful lot, genuinely trying to help you get the best car deal.

3. Evans Halshaw Vauxhall Edinburgh

Pros

  • Has new and slightly used cars available
  • Working directly with several auto brands
  • Flexible finance options without interest

Cons

  • Purchasing process can be disorganised
  • Not the best aftercare
  • Not all vehicles are under warranty

Evans Halshaw is a leading volume motor car and commercial vehicle dealership company in the UK, servicing customers since 1927. They have numerous branches scattered across the country, and their Edinburgh branch is one of their biggest.

They provide new and used cars from 10 brands of cars and vans, including Citroën, Dacia, DS, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Peugeot, Renault, and Vauxhall. They have hundreds to choose from, so you’re bound to find a few options.

On their website, they segregated vehicles under approved used cars, nearly-new cars, new cars, used vans, and new vans. We think this system is straightforward and helps customers easily online shop for an auto that suits their needs and budgets.

Additionally, Evans Halshaw offers some services such as a complimentary vehicle health check with purchases. They also allow for flexible finance when it comes to APR servicing, repair, and accessory payments without interest.

Evans Halshaw Vauxhall Edinburgh is quite a busy branch, so processes can be a bit disorganised. For instance, it’s difficult to get customer service representatives on the phone, which subsequently affects deal signing and aftercare.

We think Evans Halshaw Vauxhall Edinburgh is still one of the best dealerships in Edinburgh, but more for purchasing new to slightly used cars. They also work directly with many auto brands, making them a trustworthy entry on our list.

4. Arnold Clark Edinburgh Seafield Motorstore

Pros

  • Experienced car dealership company
  • Multiple branches across the country
  • Hundreds of cars to choose from in Edinburgh branch

Cons

  • Occasional issues with autos for sale
  • Hectic during busy seasons

Another leading car dealer group with multiple branches in Europe is Arnold Clark Automobiles LTD. It’s got a lot of history in Scotland, opening back in 1954 with just a single showroom.

They have around 305 used cars available for viewing in Seafield, their biggest Edinburgh branch, but they also have over 20,000 cars to choose from in their nationwide catalogue.

They carry autos from different makes, such as Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Land Rover, Volkswagen, and many others. They also have some higher-end offerings, although less common than others.

Arnold Clark Edinburgh Seafield has been highly rated in Google Reviews, AutoTrader, and other trusted websites thanks to thousands of successful sales. We’ve also noticed that they check up on customers regularly after purchase, which is commendable.

Because they have such a huge selection of cars for sale, it’s not uncommon to find some issues with the autos for sale. And similar to Evans Halshaw, sealing a deal can be quite stressful, especially during seasons when they have lots of clients.

Hopefully, this is something they’d improve on because their prices also don’t come cheap. But if you’re looking to purchase a car that’s quite uncommon, the Arnold Clark Automobiles dealership is definitely a good place to start looking.

Pros

  • Open every day with two branches in Edinburgh
  • Suitable for those with poor credit ratings

Cons

  • Smaller company with less experience
  • Warranty upgrades come at a price

Last on our list is Redpath & McLean, a specialist second-hand car dealer based in Edinburgh. They’re open every day and are committed to providing customers with great savings on quality used cars.

They have over a hundred vehicles available, from the most popular models such as Ford, Vauxhall, Audi, BMW, and many many more. If you give them a call, they can also provide vehicle sourcing assistance to help you find any model you’re in search of.

Redpath & McLean also has connections with high street lenders and specialist motoring finance houses to help their clients secure finance deals, which we think is advantageous to those with poor credit ratings.

Additionally, the dealership company also does part exchanges and vehicle purchases. They also provide proper aftersales, and their warranty has three different levels of cover available, which customers can choose from depending on the state of the car.

Like the Waterfront Motor Company, they are a relatively smaller dealership with a smaller clientele, so it’s best to assess their products carefully.

Additionally, warranty upgrades come at a price, but you might want to upgrade to avoid higher costs in the future.

Overall, Redpath & McLean is well-trusted and has returning customers from the area. If you’re looking to secure a financial deal to help you obtain a car, it’s well worth giving them a call.
