Pros
- ARB registered with 20 years of post-qualification experience
- RIBA and RIAS chartered
- Can be a full-time architect or just give advice
- Performs complimentary initial house visits and consultations
- Operates on a fixed-fee basis
- Extensive residential portfolio
Cons
- Unavailable for the next 2-3 months due to high demand
- Mainly does residential projects
ARB (Architects Registration Board) registered with 20 years of post-qualification experience, Claire McLuckie has the ideal architectural skills and knowledge to help turn your dream home into a reality, from initial conceptual designs to on-site completions.
Though, if you’re not on the market for a full-time architect, what’s great about McLuckie is that she can simply pop in from time to time to provide advice at any stage.
In recognition of her capabilities, she’s RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) and RIAS (Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland) chartered. Her work has also been published a few times, gaining national recognition.
Hence, it’s no surprise that she’s in high demand. Unfortunately, this has made her unavailable to start any new projects for the next 2-3 months, especially for large-scale jobs.
Nevertheless, she’s free to provide advice and conduct initial consultations to discuss clients’ plans. Afterwards, she’ll then give a detailed breakdown of her fee proposal.
It’s worth noting that she invites interested clients to contact her for a complimentary initial consultation. We urge our readers to take her up on this offer to better discuss how McLuckie’s services can be beneficial to actualising your dream home.
We also found it impressive that she goes the extra mile to perform free initial house visits. In our opinion, this adds more credibility to her suggestions and quotation.
As for transparency, we appreciate that she works on a fixed-fee basis. So, whatever price is set from the beginning, that’s what you’ll be rolling with throughout the project.
We also think it’s worth going through her residential portfolio, especially since this is her speciality. This is also a great way to see if your personal style matches McLuckie’s contemporary creations.
However, this means that she may not be the ideal option for clients on the hunt for an architect who can do commercial, healthcare, or hospitality-centred projects.

Pros
- Flooding resilience specialist
- Has extensive experience in water-compatible leisure resorts and conservation areas
- Provides clients with a clear process for the project
- Free initial consultation and feasibility brief
Cons
- Relatively young firm
- Busy due to popularity
Established in 2020, Sam Ledger is the director and founder of True Blue Architecture. Through a relatively young firm, they’ve already successfully delivered several large projects across multiple industries.
We think it’s worth highlighting that Ledger is a flooding resilience specialist. We found this skill impressive, making him a great asset for clients looking to flood-proof their property.
Because of this, it’s also no surprise that he’s the go-to architect for many high-profile water-compatible leisure resorts across the country. Apart from this, he also has extensive experience in residential contemporary luxury homes and conservation areas around the globe.
It’s great that he provides clients with a detailed brief of what it’s like working with him and his team, from conceptual designs to monitoring on-site progress.
In our opinion, this gives clients a clear idea of where the project is headed. This also ensures clients know the firm’s role and responsibilities throughout the project.
We got in touch with a few of his past clients who praised Ledger’s attention to detail, which was evident in his clear explanations.
You’ll be glad to know that Ledger provides free initial consultations and a feasibility brief for interested clients. This way, you’ll get a clear-cut idea of whether the project will be worth all your time, money, and resources before completely committing.
Based on our assessment, their portfolio showcases several of their best work, which we recommend taking a look at.
Though, due to their popularity, it may be difficult to book him. Nevertheless, we suggest taking a shot at it since Ledger is quite responsive to clients’ queries.
Even though they’ve got a full plate, they’re known to give all their clients proper treatment and attention. Hence, it’s no surprise to us that many of his clients enlist Ledger’s help for multiple projects.

Pros
- Has 10 years of architectural and interior design experience
- Known for turning vague ideas into concrete plans
- Known for his professionalism, attention to detail, and exceeding requirements
- Work has been featured in several publications
Cons
- Can be unavailable at times due to international projects
- Mainly focuses on residential projects
Davide Rizzo is an Italian architect with more than 10 years of experience in the industry. Registered with the ARB, Rizzo is fully UK-qualified and is currently based in Glasgow.
His most distinguishing feature is that he’s known for being able to turn nothing into an extraordinary property. With impeccable creativity and skill, he’s able to turn muddled ideas into workable concrete plans.
This, in our opinion, makes him a great choice for clients who are still a bit unsure about the design and direction they’re going for.
Many of his clients that we’ve gotten in touch with praised his professional attitude to work, performing his best down to the finest detail. A few we’ve gotten in touch with agree that this makes him an absolute pleasure to work with.
We also appreciate that his helpfulness goes beyond the job description as he’s also known to help clients accomplish necessary paperwork to ensure that everything’s on track.
On top of being an established architect, Rizzo is also a sought-after interior designer. In our opinion, this definitely makes him the perfect package, given his expertise.
While he performs several domestic and commercial projects, he often focuses on residential work. In our opinion, this is quite a bummer for those looking to enlist his expertise for commercial endeavours.
Known to take inspiration from the 1920s, much of Rizzo’s work has been featured in several popular magazines. These include Elle, Living, and Qvest, to name a few.
Hence, you’ll definitely be missing out if you don’t have a look at his impressive portfolio featuring local and international work, which you can easily find on his website.
With that said, he’s taken several international clients, so there are times when he’s out of Glasgow. So, he’ll be quite difficult to reach given these circumstances.

Pros
- 40 years of professional practice and 20 years of experience in academia
- Chair of Architecture at the Mackintosh School of Architecture at the Glasgow School of Art
- Co-founded the award-winning firm, Studio KAP
- Best known for performing constructions and redevelopments in challenging locations
Cons
- Often busy due to numerous commitments
- Firm is quite young
What we liked most about Christoper Platt was his extensive background. He has over 40 years of professional practice and 20 years of experience in academia up his sleeve.
After becoming a registered architect in Great Britain, Platt began practising in Glasgow, Berlin, London, Oxford, and Ethiopia. Having been well travelled, Platt also has a great number of international connections.
In 2019, he co-founded the award-winning firm Studio KAP. What sets their studio apart from others is that they’re known for performing constructions and redevelopments in challenging locations such as sensitive sites, conservation areas, and rural spots.
They’re also done several projects on homes, healthcare facilities, public buildings, and lodges, to name a few.
Though the firm may still be relatively young, we think that the combination of textbook knowledge and direct professional experience gives Pratt a uniquely valuable skillset.
As for his teaching career, Platt is the Chair of Architecture at the Mackintosh School of Architecture at the Glasgow School of Art.
He’s also a fellow of a few international architecture organisations, such as the Royal Incorporation of Architects of Scotland and Higher Education Academy.
Apart from that, Platt has written several critically-acclaimed books on architectural education and practice. He also has regular publications in the Architectural Research Quarterly.
On top of that, he’s currently doing practice-based research. Here, his work focuses on examining issues of architectural designs and thinking in order to ultimately influence and explore more inclusive designing methodologies.
In our opinion, this also makes him a viable choice for clients looking for an experienced architect who can create designs that can easily accommodate all kinds and types of people.
However, all of these responsibilities do mean that he’s quite a busy person. So, it may be difficult to secure him as your architect given that he’s quite sought-after.
