We like how First Chord Music School teaches lessons that really stick with the students. Instructors personalise lessons around what you want to learn, whether that means favourite songs or particular styles of music, and combine it with technique and music theory. 

And this applies to a broad mix of lessons, including guitar, bass, piano, ukulele, and singing. We appreciate that they encourage you to produce your own music, too, by integrating songwriting, improvisation, and recording tools into lessons.

It’s also neat that they organise ukulele orchestras, where students of all levels perform arranged versions of songs together in different parts. Group ensembles can help you improve rhythm, listening skills, and confidence while playing with others.

That said, we’re glad that they offer both solo and small group classes (maximum of three students), since it allows you to choose which one you’re more comfortable with. But keep in mind that if you plan to cancel a session, you’ll have to give a week’s notice to avoid charges.

Just to get it out of the way, this place is meant for students pursuing professional careers in music or performing arts, so you’ll find it intensive and overwhelming if you simply want hobby-based music lessons. 

On the other hand, graduating here can open doors to professional orchestras, teaching roles, and international performance opportunities. 

The range of musical disciplines and instruments is also impressive. Think brass, strings, woodwind, keyboard instruments, vocal performance, percussion, guitar, and traditional music. 

Also, since they’re positioned as a leading performing arts institution, you can expect them to have world-class performance venues, rehearsal rooms, recording studios, piano labs, and specialised music technology resources. 

The catch? Admissions here are tough; applicants go through rigorous auditions and interviews because places are limited. 

Nonetheless, their level of instruction and recognition is high, so we can understand the intense screening process.

Operating for over 20 years, Bishopbriggs School of Music has built a reputation in the local music education community. Throughout the years, they continue to refine teaching systems and have a better understanding of student development. 

On that note, we love that they feature a broad selection of instruments taught, including guitar, drums, piano, bass, woodwind, violin, ukulele, and vocals. So, you can also explore different instruments within the same school, making it more familiar and convenient for you. 

Speaking of convenience, we’re happy to know that the school provides free parking and a community room where parents can wait comfortably during lessons—it makes the place more family-friendly. 

Here’s the thing, though: lessons are typically booked in multi-week blocks rather than single sessions, which might be a dealbreaker for some who want more flexible schedules. 

Still, we can’t deny that their structured lessons help maintain consistency and often lead to faster skill development.

If you want to break into the music industry, then Riverside Music College is a good place to start. They primarily focus on teaching music production, songwriting, performance training, music theory, composition, production tools, and digital music software to develop well-rounded skills.

We’re impressed by their facilities! Students can get access to professional studios where they can record music, practise mixing, and gain hands-on experience using industry-standard equipment.  

Another thing worth highlighting is the campus itself. Besides recording studios, they also have rehearsal rooms, mixing labs, lecture theatres, and dedicated teaching spaces, which improve the learning experience. 

On the flipside, they don’t focus on casual music lessons, as the programmes are designed for students who want professional training. 

The good news is that their structured programmes support beginners, intermediate learners, and advanced students. So, you can still begin somewhere even if you don’t have an extensive background.
