Once a man-made loch, this park had a dark history intertwined with the infamous witch trials. Accused witches were subjected to a test, where sinking meant innocence and floating meant a grim fate – Edinburgh’s own aquatic version of “Innocent or Guilty.”

I’ve been fortunate enough to attend this magnificent celebration of arts and culture not once, but twice. For three glorious weeks, Edinburgh becomes a hub of artistic brilliance from every corner of the globe.

Comedy, cabaret, physical theatre, circus, children’s shows, musicals, spoken word – with over 350 shows each day, the options are endless. Many of these shows are either free or operate on a “Pay What You Want” basis, making them accessible to all.

Stroll around Leith

A visit to Edinburgh wouldn’t be complete without exploring Leith, a hip and happening neighbourhood. Leith has transformed from a maritime powerhouse to a neighbourhood that buzzes with artistic energy, delicious food, and independent spirit. 

I just love taking a leisurely stroll along The Shore, a cobbled street that oozes character and was once the bustling dock. Now, it’s a haven for charming shops, cosy cafes, and mouthwatering restaurants. 

You can wander along the picturesque Water of Leith walkway while keeping your eyes peeled for local wildlife. Also, it’s suitable for bikes, buggies, and wheelchairs, making it the perfect free adventure for families.
