  • Carries high-quality Kommerling windows
  • Specialises in composite doors
  • Has an online Composite Door Designer
  • No deposit required

Cons

  • Pricier products
  • Unhelpful sales attendants
  • Minor order mix-ups

Art Windows & Doors seems to be one of the top windows and doors specialists in Glasgow due to having a combined 50 years of industry experience under its belt.

We are impressed by their very wide range of window types. They seem to have everything– from Bay, French, Tilt and Turn, Sash, uPVC, and even Kommerling.

Kommerling is Germany’s premium brand, and their products are unbeaten in terms of quality, innovation, design, and technology.

Aside from windows, they also specialise in composite doors. Since composite doors offer a high level of thermal efficiency, this will allow you to save more on your bills.

They actually have a Composite Door Designer on their website, which we appreciate. You can try out numerous variations for free until you get what you are looking for.

Unlike other shops, a deposit is not required. This can be reassuring to some customers who do not want to pay a single penny until the completion of the installation.

Of course, since they offer high-quality imported products, they are priced a bit higher. However, the price of their products seem to be worth it, according to their former customers.

Surprisingly, there were reports of unhelpful attendants who were more interested in chatting with each other rather than helping out customers. We understand how this can be frustrating, and these attendants should be reprimanded.

Lastly, some customers experienced minor mix-ups with their orders upon delivery. However, when they reported these, the shop managed to fix them right away.

Pros

  • Known for spilling industry secrets
  • uPVC and aluminium windows are A rated
  • Has hundreds of styles and options available for door customisation
  • Specialises in high-quality composite doors
  • Carries the ‘Secure By Design’ mark

Cons

  • Requires a 50% deposit
  • Slight mix-ups with deliveries

Strathclyde Windows is another top go-to shop in Glasgow for your windows and doors.

We actually applaud this shop’s efforts in spilling industry secrets on their website. They revealed the truth about discounts and 0% financing, which customers found quite informative and useful.

We also like how all of the uPVC and aluminium windows they sell are A-rated. This assures customers that these windows scored high in terms of energy efficiency, heat retention, and overall performance.

This shop is also known for their wide range of options for customising composite doors. They boast hundreds of styles and options available for door customisation which is quite impressive.

Not only are their composite doors customisable, they are also of very high-quality. They provide the best thermal efficiency, meaning your home can stay as cosy and warm as possible.

Their products even carry the ‘Secure By Design’ mark unlike other shops. If someone manages to break in, the shop is willing to pay £1000!

Unlike other shops, however, this shop does require a 50% deposit. This might not be amenable for customers who would like to pay after the completion of the project.

There were also reports of slight mix-ups in deliveries, such as being given the wrong window colour, wrong type, etc. However, the shop is quite responsive in rectifying these mistakes, and the customers did not seem to mind all that much.

Pros

  • Family-run business since 1997
  • Can give you a quote in no more than 30 minutes
  • Has unique Palladio doors
  • Carries Pilkington energiKare™ double glazing
  • uPVC system supplied by REHAU
  • uPVC windows have high ratings

Cons

  • Limited window and door selection
  • Hard to secure a booking

As a family-run business since 1997, Southside Window Systems has won the hearts of many locals in the community. In fact, they state that 85% of their customers have been recommended by a previous satisfied customer.

We are amazed with their ability to provide a quote within 30 minutes. The owner himself will come out to discuss the styles and give you a costing within that time period.

A unique type of door they offer is the Palladio door which other shops do not have. The Palladio Door Collection was designed and created in 2008, and it has a one-of-a-kind monocoque structure using 65ml of reinforced fibreglass and renolit foil.

We are also impressed that they carry Pilkington energiKare double glazing products. Their design contains an optimised combination of glass, spacer bar, and gas fill to achieve the best Window Energy Rating (WER) or U-value for each window application.

Another impressive thing about them is that their uPVC system is supplied by REHAU. REHAU’s windows systems are rated ‘A’ by the British Research Establishment Green Guide for Recyclability.

In fact, their uPVC windows have high ratings. They have been awarded an ‘A’ rating for domestic windows and an ‘A+’ rating for commercial windows, proving the environmental credentials of their PVC windows.

This shop, however, has a limited window and door selection. For those who are looking for bay windows or French doors, you would need to go elsewhere.

Customers also mentioned that it is hard to secure a booking. Some were repeatedly told that they cannot provide a schedule yet since they are simply too busy.

Pros

  • Offers a fully comprehensive 10-year guarantee for windows
  • Provides a free heat loss demonstration
  • Supports Cancer Research UK and Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity
  • All window and door frames are supplied by REHAU
  • No deposit required

Cons

  • Limited selection of doors
  • Fitting dates changed multiple times
  • Took months to resolve a faulty fitting

If you are looking for a shop that offers a fully comprehensive 10-year guarantee for windows, then Replace Windows might be a good choice for you. They service not only Glasgow but also South Lanarkshire and North Lanarkshire.

We like how they provide a free heat-loss demonstration with their initial visit that not all shops do. This demo only takes 30 minutes, and within 48 hours, you will be emailed a detailed quotation.

We also admire their charitable efforts. They are huge supporters of the Cancer Research UK and Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, and they actually helped raise hundreds of pounds for each charity so far.

In terms of quality, all window and door frames are supplied by REHAU. This company’s top notch designs combine form with function, so your windows not only look great, but they work beautifully, too.

For those who want to pay only after installation, you’re in luck since an initial deposit is not required.

They do however, only have a small selection of doors:  composite, uPVC, French, and patio.

Some customers also complained that their fitting schedules were changed multiple times by the shop which highly inconvenienced them.

Others also experienced faulty window fittings which took months to resolve. We hope they resolve these issues to help in fully satisfying their customers.

Pros

  • Over 30 years’ experience in the double-glazing industry
  • Offers an unrivalled 15-year guarantee
  • Their frames feature up to 80% recycled material
  • Provides innovative designs for security and safety
  • Energy-efficient designs
  • Great-looking portfolio

Cons

  • Very narrow range of products
  • Not for last-minute bookings

Smiths Windows & Doors is a company with an impressive 30 years’ experience in the double-glazing industry. What’s unique about them is that they offer an unrivaled 15-year guarantee unlike others who only offer 10.

For the environmentally-conscious, you’d be happy to know that their frames feature up to 80% recycled material. Their recycling facility has the capacity to reduce waste material by up to fifty-five tonnes per week, virtually eliminating wastage.

This shop also provides innovative designs for your security and safety. These awesome features include fully-welded frames, internal glazing, and toughened or laminated glass.

Not only are their designs geared towards security, they are energy-efficient as well. Their multi-chambers significantly reduce heat and energy loss from inside the home, thus decreasing frame carbon emissions by up to 70%.

Their portfolio is also top-notch compared to other shops. The images are clear and quite detailed, so that customers would be able to envision which door and window styles would be suitable for their own homes.

Do note, however, that they have a very narrow range of products, consisting only of four types of doors and four types of windows.

This is also not the ideal company for last-minute bookings. Customers have stated that they were not quite responsive to calls or emails.
