A Food Lover’s Guide to Fife’s 13 Best Restaurants

If you know me,  you’ll know that I’ll happily travel anywhere for a belter of a meal. So, when my sister suggested visiting Fife for the weekend, I didn’t think twice.

I still remember my first visit, stumbling across a cozy little gastropub where the seafood was so fresh it could’ve come straight off the ocean. Since then, it’s become something of a tradition to return to head back and uncover more of Fife’s best dining spots, from fine dining gems to laid-back local favorites

After a handful of trips, I’ve pulled together a handpicked list of the best places to eat, whether you’re looking for a tasting menu to celebrate a special occasion or a comforting Sunday roast. Fancy finding out the inside scoop on the best restaurants in Fife? Let the feasting begin!

What we love about Greenhouse Bar & Grill is how incredibly accommodating they are. Owners Debi and Leon are the absolute sweetest! They even whipped us up a full vegan starter, main, and dessert even though it wasn’t on the regular menu. We really appreciated the extra touch.

Now, speaking of their regular menu, get ready to roll up your sleeves because things are about to get messy in the best way possible. Their Buffalo Chicken Wings with dirty fries and ranch? An instant favorite. And don’t get me started on the Tempura Tiger Prawns, just yum!

When it comes to mains, I honestly can’t pick a favorite. Whether it’s one of their Famous Greenhouse Burgers, Leon’s Choice of Hand-Cut Steak, or the ultra-comforting Double Cheese Macaroni, every dish has me craving my next visit.

Pro Tip: If you have strict dietary requirements, it’s best to call ahead with plenty of notice so that  Debi and Leon can make the necessary accommodations to create something special just for you!

To us, it also isn’t a surprise that The Boar’s Head is a multi-awarded gastropub as you can truly taste their expertise in every dish. From the rich hot smoked salmon starters to the perfectly cooked wild venison mains.

Their Sunday Roast is also incredibly popular as you get to choose from Scottish sirloin of beef, roast lamb shoulder, roast venison, or veggie haggis. Each dish is a crowd favorite and served with all the traditional trimmings.

Overlooking Ellie Bay, The Ship Inn is where we go to have comforting dishes made with seasonal ingredients and local produce overlooking the stunning coastal views. Well, the view’s just a bonus.

For us, the star of the show are their mains. Particularly, their Ship Inn Beef Burger made with candied bacon and gherkins, their Scottish Wild Mushroom Stroganoff made with spiced basmati rice and crispy shallots, and, of course, their classic crispy Haddock and Chips.

We also love their after-dinner drink selection as it’s thoughtfully crafted to enhance the dining experience. Our favorites include their pudding wines which are perfect for when you’re craving something sweet and their liquor coffees for when you need a little pick-me-up.

Pro Tip: Book a table in advance, especially if you’re visiting during the summer months as the beach cricket matches are in full swing and draw big crowds so tables fill up fast, and last-minute availability is rare.

A crowd favorite for offering “a little taste of Italy at the heart of Fife”, Kettlebridge delivers authentic flavors thanks to their passionate Florentine, Sicilian, and Scottish chefs at the helm. Trust me, you don’t just taste Italy, you can feel it.

And nothing captures that better than their hand-stretched, wood-fired pizzas. Margherita? A flavor bomb. Prosciutto Formaggio Blue? Absolutely delicious. Pepperoni? A timeless classic. Honestly, we’ve worked our way through nearly the entire menu, we might as well get loyalty cards at this point!

Another must-try? Their charcuterie board, packed with melt-in-your mouth cheeses, savory and salty meats, crispy bread, all the right extras. Their bruschetta is also a refreshing appetizer paired with smashed avocados on a bed of ciabatta crostini. Perfect for sharing… or not!

What’s unique about this intimate fine-dining bistro is that it’s located right below the iconic Forth Rail Bridge. Definitely adding to its charm, this is one of my favorite intimate dining spots. And I’m not kidding. It only sits 28, so reservations are highly recommended, especially on the weekends.

Owners Craig and Vikki take pride in their authentically Scottish menu, sourcing only the finest local ingredients. Our favorites? The Shetland muscles, elevated with basil, bacon, pine nuts, and a parmesan cream, and the hand-dived Scottish scallops complemented by black pudding and celeriac remoulade.

And to top it all off, their homemade sorbet ‘sundae’ made with toasted coconut and candied pistachios is a refreshing palette cleanser. Their affogato is also a must-try, served with a boule of home-made vanilla ice cream.

Oh blimey, where to even begin? Cobbies Inn has been around for a while, earning a loyal following of both locals and visitors with its traditional pub fare, incorporating uniquely creative twists that set it apart.

I know every restaurant claims to do that, but trust me, Cobbies delivers. One of my absolute favorites, and many would agree, is their Big Breakfast Stack. Layers of sausage, black pudding, bacon, and haggis sandwiched between crispy potato scones, topped with a perfectly fried egg and served with beans.

Then there’s the Steak Stack with thinly sliced, tender steak piled between warm crusty bread and caramelized onions and gloriously melty cheese. Both of these are the ultimate way to start your day (or recover from the night before!)

Pro Tip: Don’t skip dessert! Their Sticky Toffee Pudding is as light as a cloud and tastes like absolute heaven. Plus, it’s homemade.

One of our favorite hidden gems in historical Cupar, The Courtyard is an absolute treasure! While the menu is on the shorter side, every dish is carefully crafted with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients of the highest quality. So it’s no surprise that every dish tastes fresh and special.

What we love the most, though, is how incredibly accommodating they are to dietary needs. Not only do they offer a great selection of vegetarian options, but they’re also more than happy to whip up something off-menu.

With excellent service and impeccable food, it’s no surprise we’ve already found our go-to order: the Fresh Crab Bisque, and the rich Butternut Squash, Roast Pepper, Chilli & Basil Lasagna (which they can make vegetarian!), and, of course, their classic homemade crème brûlée. Each one is a must try!

Nestled in the scenic countryside by St. Andrews is The Grange Inn, one of our favorite restaurants, renowned for its exceptional food quality, stellar service,  and cozy ambiance. Housed in a beautifully restored 17th-century converted farmhouse, it offers a quintessential Scottish dining experience.

They’re all about using the freshest local ingredients, and trust me, you can taste the difference. Our favorites? The hand-dived scallops, the melt-in-your-mouth Scottish beef filet cooked to absolute perfection with a side of seasonal vegetables.
