- Tips When Visiting Oban Distillery
Here’s the thing about me: I can never say no to a good glass of whisky. And while some towns are built around monuments and libraries, Oban grew around something far more spirited–a distillery. No complaints here; in fact, it’s one of the quirks I love most about this coastal town.
Founded in 1794, Oban Distillery has seen its fair share of change. What’s remarkable is that the town that has grown around the distillery, not the other way around. With over 225 years in the game, their drams are undeniably smooth, complex, and full of character.
The Oban Distillery isn’t just part of the town’s history; it is the town’s history. This unnasumming stone building holds the spirit–quite literally–of Oban itself. And if you’re wondering what it’s like inside, how to get there, and what to do, well… read on.

Book Ahead: Tours and tastings are popular (duh!), so ensure to reserve online well in advance, especially in the summertime or peak season, to secure a slot.
Arrive Early: Oban’s town centre can get busy, especially in peak season, which can cause traffic delays and parking to fill up quickly.
Avoid Wearing Strong Scents: To enjoy the most of your whisky experience, avoid wearing any perfume or cologne, as it can interfere with your ability to fully enjoy the whisky aromas.
