As someone who loves to work outside, I’m very particular with coffee shops. A great coffee shop with delicious drinks and hearty pastries is crucial for actually getting any work done!
Trust me, I’ve tried working from parks and benches, but I quickly learned that my laptop doesn’t quite appreciate the outdoors as much as I do.
Well, I’ve sipped my way through Perth to bring you the best coffee shops in town. From studying and catching up with friends to simply unwinding (or pretending to work while secretly scrolling through cat memes), there’s a perfect coffee shop below for you!

This charming independent coffee shop offers the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle, conveniently nestled right in Perth city centre. It’s a fantastic spot for catching up with friends after work or squeezing in a quick meeting without missing a beat.
The menu boasts homemade cakes, all-day breakfasts, and freshly baked breads. My personal favorite? The lemon and poppy seed cake. Trust me, taking down a slice (or two) in one sitting is a challenge I’m proud to accept.
Their cappuccinos are a must-try, but if you’re cutting back on caffeine, their rich hot chocolate never disappoints. And when hunger strikes, their hearty soups and perfectly paired sandwiches make for a winning combo that’s impossible to resist.

What I love about Blend Coffee Lounge is its incredibly relaxing ambiance—think cozy living room vibes with comfy armchairs and sofas. Plus, it’s pet-friendly, so I love bringing my pup along for a laid-back breakfast.
Another fun perk of this charming café is their creative seasonal specials. Last Christmas, they served up “O’ Christmas Brie”—a mouthwatering melted brie with cranberry sauce on ciabatta bread. I loved it so much that I pretty much had it every day.
Seasonal specials aside, their regular menu is impressively varied, with plenty of vegan and gluten-free options. They’re also happy to accommodate a few custom requests—like making your chai latte a bit spicier, which I personally love.

Whether you’re on two legs or four, Brew & Chew has a warm welcome waiting for you! As a proud pet parent who loves café hopping with my pup, I appreciate that this spot goes above and beyond with its very own dog menu.
They serve up doggy sausages, puppuccinos, banana and peanut butter cupcakes, and even Jude’s ice cream for dogs. Now that’s what I call inclusivity!
For us humans, their Soup of the Day with fresh bread is perfect for chilly days, while the ciabatta paninis are a must-try if you’re craving something hearty. As for coffee, the flat white offers a smooth pick-me-up, while the mocha is great if you’re in the mood for something sweet.
Pro Tip: Brew & Chew is a popular spot for pups and humans alike, especially on weekends, so getting there early will help you snag a good seat.

If you’re feeling a bit fancy and want a more traditional Scottish tea and coffee experience, Effies of Perth is the perfect spot. This charming Victorian-style tea room has over 30 blends of teas and coffees on the menu, so you’re bound to find something that hits the spot.
They’re especially loved for their tasty breakfasts, light lunches, and beautifully served afternoon tea. They’ve got generous servings and packed with flavor which leaves me wanting to come back for more.
Out of all their desserts, the carrot cake completely stole the show—both in my humble opinion and according to plenty of glowing reviews! Light, soft, and perfectly moist, it might just be the best I’ve ever tasted. Fun fact: their recipe has been perfected over 25 years!
Pro Tip: Make sure to bring cash, as Effies of Perth operates on a cash-only basis.

The cozy, laid-back vibe makes it a perfect spot to curl up with a book indoors or enjoy the fresh air with your pup in their outdoor seating area.
Oh, and did I mention they offer vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options? That’s why it’s our go-to spot when dining out with friends who have different dietary needs.

You might be surprised to learn that in 2019, the Mustard Seed earned formal recognition from the Scottish Tourism Board, receiving a 4-star accreditation for its outstanding facilities, top-notch service, and high-quality food and drinks.
What makes this cozy spot extra special is its unique blend of a fully stocked Christian bookstore and a warm, welcoming café that values inclusivity while supporting families in need by distributing meals to the community.

Don’t let this wee café fool you—it’s always buzzing with people enjoying a cuppa or tucking into freshly made meals. It’s a true local gem, and it’s no surprise that many (myself included!) keep coming back for their breakfast fix.
My favorite is the B.H.L.T.—a hearty sandwich packed with grilled bacon, halloumi, and garnishes on a soft brioche bun. Meanwhile, my dad swears by the Big Breakfast, loaded with generous portions of bacon, pork links, Lorne sausage, fried eggs, and more.
Of course, no breakfast here is complete without coffee. From smooth cappuccinos to rich mochas, every cup is top-notch in our books!

What I love about Johnnie Orange Café is how this charming husband-and-wife spot brings a delightful Hong Kong twist to classic breakfast foods and drinks, offering a refreshing taste of Asian cuisine right in Perth. It’s the perfect place for slow, easygoing mornings.
Their egg tarts and waffles are absolutely irresistible, especially when paired with a creamy matcha oat latte. And when my sweet tooth kicks in? The Toblerone Latte is a total game-changer.
The cozy, laid-back vibe makes it an ideal spot for reading a book or getting some work done. Plus, it’s pet-friendly! Just be sure your pup is comfortable around other dogs because the café’s adorable four-legged “employee,” Bobo, might come by to say hello.

My personal favorite? The Holy Grail Smoothie—light, refreshing, and packed with mango and coconut milk goodness (truly chef’s kiss!). When I need a caffeine fix, the Iced Mocha always hits the spot. As for mains, you can’t go wrong with the crispy, flavorful Banana Blossom ‘Fish’.
What makes Rascals even more special is their meaningful mission. They provide employment opportunities for former prisoners and young people, helping them reintegrate into society, while also championing sustainability by composting food waste and reducing their carbon footprint.
